This board converts a USB connection into 5 volt TX and RX that you can connect straight to the Arduino Mini or other microcontrollers, allowing them to talk to the computer. It is based on the FT232RL chip from FTDI.

This is a basic breakout board for the FTDI FT232RL USB to serial IC. The pinout of this board matches the FTDI cable to work with official Arduino and cloned 5V Arduino boards. It can also be used for general serial applications. The major difference with this board is that it brings out the DTR pin as opposed to the RTS pin of the FTDI cable. The DTR pin allows an Arduino target to auto-reset when a new Sketch is downloaded. This is a really nice feature to have and allows a sketch to be downloaded without having to hit the reset button. This board will auto reset any Arduino board that has the reset pin brought out to a 6-pin connector.
The pins labeled BLK and GRN correspond to the colored wires on the FTDI cable. The black wire on the FTDI cable is GND, green is CTS. Use these BLK and GRN pins to align the FTDI basic board with your Arduino target.
This board has TX and RX LEDs that make it a bit better to use over the FTDI cable. You can actually see serial traffic on the LEDs to verify if the board is working.

I had to search elsewhere to get this product. Google ftdi 5v or if your looking for the minimosd with this google minimosd with ftdi burner. There from what i have found there seems to be a 3v and 5v version. just search for the 5v version. As far as drivers that can be googled too. I have had no issues with bricking. Im pretty sure that from a buisness stand point it would be a bad model to brick counterfeit boards. after all its not the consumers fault if he is sold a bad board. so why would you ruin your own name , because even the customer might not know its counterfeit. Just my two cents. plus i think you can also get drivers here on hobbyking under files tab. Also check youtube. If you look up this ftdi chip or the minimosd there are several videos that will guide you where to get correct driver for ftdi. Lastly it is still an aurdino. so if you dont understand arduino and you dont put the correct sketch file or set the board up correctly while updateing the sketch file then it is completely possible to end up with a "bricked" board. But this can be fixed as well. Arduino is easy enough to understand. but is also easy to get confused . so again hit up the Youtube. Alot of helpful videos :) Hope that helped

Great and cheap little USB <-> RS232 converter (TTL voltage level). I soldered one into my Multiplex mc3030 transmitter, connected to its internal serial port. So I can backup the model memories with just o USB cable via laptop (additional software mc3030-manager required).
Just ordered more of these...
