Skylark L-9 Rubber Powered Freeflight Model 2 in 1 Monoplane or Bi-plane
Skylark L-9 Rubber Powered Freeflight Model 2 in 1 Monoplane or Bi-plane

The Freeflight series are just massive fun for all ages, they are ultra fast and simple to assemble as you would expect and quality is top notch, unlike the kind of kits you may have played with as a kid, these brilliant models utilize modern manufacturing techniques making them very durable, not to mention excellent performers.

The Skylark is a brilliant retro model that can be flown either as a mono-plane or a bi-plane, construction is very simliar to those models you probably flew as a kid and is very slightly more involved perhaps than some of the others in the range in terms of assembly but at the same time, a little more satisfying and still suitable for youngsters. The L-9 features control surface tabs for adjustment and this of course is the real fun of Freeflight, trimming the model to achieve circuits and maybe even a half decent landing when you get it really sussed! In addition, the wing position of the skylark can also be adjusted, shifting Centre of Gravity forwards and backwards, certainly adding to it's adjustability, fun and possibly even educational value. Now, if you are thinking you might get tired of winding up the rubber band with your chubby digits, never fear, we even have a battery powered winder with a built in counter (see related products) so no excuses!

Brilliant cheap fun for both adults and kids, the Freeflight series is a great way to have fun with friends and family in the local park, at picnics or even at your airfield!

If you dont have all the necessary electronics you need -to build it as rc- use you money to buy something like this http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18872__Ho

. If you have them, use them for something else. I think this project is costly waste of time.

Friend not only driven by elastic force without commands (usually used by smaller children.

I ordered one. Wanna try it with the 2g Hextronic motor and gws 3x2 prop. controller the esc 3.5A and two of the HK 5320 servos. But still on backorder. Battery the 130mah 1s.
 Spreisel 1 points
I took the 1,7g servos, not linear. A brushed motor from a jamara micro heli with the hk 3A bec and a parkflyer screw and 180mAh lipo from the same heli. It's flying but the power is too weak and the engine is getting hot. Will try to get out the data from the screw, maybe it's wrong.

Initial weight without prop and rubber ~ 25.5 gr. So you need 35-40 gr thrust for comfort flying.

well i wonder if any one could covert it to full RC

ryan mmm my be A real big battery would go well. I AM JOKING.

you can,it just will take a bit of time

Friend not only driven by the elastic force, the fact of the case also if you by: Command servos, receiver, battery. etc ... the aero would not fly because it is fragile, ok
fotod  148 points - 5/10/2012

How long flight time? Let's say straight and low.
 Kellyann 16228 points
fotod it is funny you should ask. There is a record for this type of plane. Not this one but very much the same and it is over 200m. 200m like wow.

I got about 1 minute max. Not tried very hard though. Maybe 2-3 minutes absolute max when perfect weather and all trimmed nice.

Yes everyone, I am currently converting this model to RC. AUW put together as a rubber band flyer, it is 46g. I plan on using 1 cell lipo, 4ch spektrum receiver SKU: R415, esc SKU: HK-XP3A, and 2 Hobbyking ultra micro receivers SKU: HK-5320. I am unsure what motor to use. I tried the 2 gram brushless but it got too hot and burned up on me. This model is a breeze to convert. a dab of hot glue to hold your electronics, a dab of CA to hold the wings tight and t bit of scotch tape for hinges. Any suggestions for motor?
