Hi people.... I bought this esc and the turnigy 1220 brushless.... I have fitted it
To one of my mini z cars and it works good except for take off...
Instead of rocketing off it sits there clicking and gittering... then if you give it a
Tiny push its of like a bullet. .. I have the cut off set to 1.2v ...and the car is
Using nimh 4.8v.... any help would be awesome...
Remember* the brushless motors are "amps hungry" and a small NiMH battery cant support all the amps of the "take off". Maybe with a LiPo battery or a bigger NiMH battery can solve this problem. *)
did anyone else receive this ESC with the aircraft/helicopter manual ?
for me it does not matter, i know how to operate it, i bought the programming card as well... but for a beginner... you think you buy a car esc, it's listed in the "cars and parts / speed controllers" section ... and then you see the manual for aircraft esc ... kinda confusing i.m.o.
Same here... First I thought I bought the wrong item but I checked and everything was ok, then i thought HK sent me the wrong item but after I tested it works like a normal esc for a car. A bit confusing...
can i use this ESC as is it (default seting)?
so i don't have to buy the card.
i'd like to use on my mini drift rc car 1:28.
please give me the answer.
Can someone explain to an airplane guy how you would use this to reverse thrust a prop?
I realize their are variable pitch props but the application I have in mind is actually for moving a boom in an exhibit at a museum.
According to my calculations that motor will draw a max of 30 amps at 7.2v but its running current will be lower. I would say NO, I would play it safe and get something a little higher rated.
I looked up the specs and found the total wattage, but this is a maximum figure and would never be a constant current draw. For a few dollars more there are a number of other choices, so unless you are tight for space I would go with a higher rated ESC.
I dont think you can used this with a brushed motor, but if you search for TGY-20A that ESC might be what your looking for and it also comes in a 30A version.
Hello, I have just received this ESC in the mail. It mostly works great, though I can not enter programming mode. I have tried with 2 different radios and receivers, 1 surface setup and 1 air setup. I don't have a programming card but want to turn the drag brake to 0%. It is just set too high right now for my micro T. as soon as i let off the throttle, the wheels lock up and it loops out. Thanks.
As stated - min 1s Lipo = 3.7V or 3cell Ni-XX = 3.6V. Output to RX stated at 5V/1A, so I guess this ESC is similar to most other 1s car ESC, which can be used with normal RX. I am waiting for 1.
If you servo has 5 wires it is not compatible with standart receiver. It don´t have built-in ESC.
You have to buy another servo.
If you are running a 1/36 car, the HXT500 servo will fit.
Quick question: how do y connect the servo motor to this esc?? it only has for one motor.
another question, how do i know wich of the three blue cables conect to each of brushless motor??
The servo's are not connected to the ESC,you plug the servo's directly into your receiver. The ESC plugs into the throttle channel of your receiver and reference the 3 wires it does not matter initially as it is a 3 phase type motor.Plug all 3 wires to the motor, then run the motor up and watch which direction it runs,if it runs backwards then change any 2 MOTOR wires and then it will run in the opposite direction.
What is the correct program card for this ESC?
I know that you can program some aspects without the card, but I would like to change the cut-off voltage.
Thanks,
Tom
To answer my own question, the "Hobby King Programming Card for Car ESC" works, despite saying that it's specifically for the 100A ESC in its description.
Note really: This ESC has 3 mode: 1) Forward Brake 2)Forward Backward Brake, but from forward to backwards (and vice versa) it will slow down making a braking action. 3)Forward Backward Brake , but stick must return neutral after brake before change direction, so push pull neutral pull for change from fwd to rew
you could use the trackstar 18a esc for crawling. you can program it to do a few different brake/reverse functions. And yes Juan, it can be used for a micro t, if you have a brushless motor. To complete the upgrade, you may also need tx/rx, and a steering servo, if you have the model with a 4 wire servo.
Thanks for the quick reply. Exactly what i was thinking, not with a linear BEC. Please let me know, im planing to upgrade a Losi 1/36 to brushless for the kids and the have to go slow at the beginning *-)
It works fine in my 1/36 Losi micro High Roller, with 2s, so I ordered another one for my 1/36 Losi Micro T. I used the Turnigy 1220 Brushless Inrunner Motor 10300kv which is meant for 1s, but it runs OK with this ESC on 2S. Will see for how long, but I have 10 batteries through it.
agreed. use 2s lipo with 1220 10500kv and get the trackstar 18a esc which can be programmed for reduced throttle range. Or you could get the HK-310 3 Channel 2.4ghz FHSS Ground Radio, which can also be programmed to limit throttle. Just keep your slipper clutch loose. Its easy to over tighten it on those cars, For more torque at slower speeds, use the turnigy 1230 4500kv, although for the 1/36th scale it might be a little bulky. It fits my micro SCT.
Tested it on 1S with the Losi Micro-T, works fine. Not too fast with the 4200kV BL-motor and 5g servo. The GT-2 Rx also works on 1S. Had to modify the motor mount.
As far as I understand the instructions, the 10A version can only be programmed with a prog. card. I was trying to program it by remote, but no success.

The ESC is perfect for weapon control in 1lb antweight combat Robot.
I use it for the drum of Saifu (28-22 kv1900 outrunner running on 3S) and it worked right out of the packet.....no programming was necessary. Its small, lightweight and its easy to change the signal leads to the micro ones if desired.

I can confirm that this esc does work on 3S, even on the heatshrink is says, "DC:3V-13V" I have used it extensively in my 1/24 losi truggy along with the turnigy 4500kv and esc is warm after 15minute runs. As far as I can tell it is not programmable via the transmitter, however, I have successfully programmed it with the "Hobby King Programming Card For Car ESC". It is basically a generic HobbyWing 10A flight ESC reflashed for Car use and those are all capable of 3S so this is the same.

Absolute garbage, could not keep a constant speed or a progressive start. Stuttery and terrible. Working examples may be better but mine was terrible. 1 star all round.

I weld one wire and esc works but how! the power is on 20pcnt of the range no linearity .. even playing on the throttle curve is always brutal. In addition the engine runs irregularly.
I have the programming card that it works well but the result is disastrous.
