This superb Yak 54 is a beautifully designed, built and covered ultra-light aerobatic model that any pilot would be proud to own, good looks aside, this is a balsa high performance 3D plane at an amazing price!

The "30" class is a great size as they are offer ease of transport and are inexpensive to build yet fly like a large model. This Yak offers a satisfying yet quick build with everything fitting "just so", the wings are of course plug in and you have a choice of two motor mounts to choose from. All hardware is excellent quality and includes a CF wing tube, FG horns, cowling blank and so on, a full instruction book is included as are decals.

Flight performance with the right set up is simply brilliant, for 3D flying you will need to use a 4s power train, 3s will be fine for sport flying. Digital high torque micro servo's are a must to get the best from this model, particlarly given the size of the control surfaces. The colour scheme is attractive and ideal for orientation, this is a very high quality kit at a brilliant price that will give the 3D pilot and the Sport pilot many hours of fun and enjoyment.

Can anyone explain how to do this??? The elevator does not fit through the slot. Is it necessary to cut a slot through the back of the vertical stab to accomplish this? The manual just says "Insert elevator into fuselage, then stabilizer, then install hinges". HELP!!!

Never mind... Wow, that was tricky. Got to put it in upside down and backwards, then it can flip over into the correct orientation. Took me a while to figure that out!

Would this motor be enough for unlimited 3-D.Turnigy G32 Brushless ... I am a big plane guy (30% up) I am new to electrics..Help!

I think that would be a perfect motor for this 3D plane. Maybe a 3S battery and large prop.

Hey how are people making the Turnigy G25 motor fit in this airplane? According to the instructions the motor should fit on the back of the mount, however the G25 does not have mounting holes on the front of the motor. It looks like it would take some major mods to the mount to get the G25 to fit. What other motor suggestions does anyone have so I could assemble the plane according to the directions with the motor on the backside of the mount. Someone used a Neodym 32 is that the only motor or are their others (cheaper ones) that will work? All replies appreciated! Thanks. Todd

Okay I got it to fit by sliding the shaft out the back. Plane flew awesome, very little trim needed, very powerful with the G25 Motor. Great vertical. Motor mount needs work though HK. On my 5th flight I punched the throttle and the mount blew out. Luckily when it did it pulled one of the motor wires out so it did not blow out of the cowling like that dude in the Youtube video. I was able to glide in to a ***py landing and a nose over but no damage other than the motor mount. Sucks.

Just got my Yak-54 yesterday. Great quality out of the box. Beautiful finish. Only too about 4-5 hours to complete. Only one niggle and that is the elevator doesn't fit through the slot. I had to cut out the back of it, glue in the stab and elevator and then glue back the piece back in. The hinges were easy to deal with. Maidened it today. Flies like a dream. Running a 32 size NeoDym motor, 40A HobbyWing Platinum ESC and a 2500mAh 4S batt. Comfortable 5 min flight time leaving the batteries at 3.85v/cell. Oh, did I mention it's beautiful? Definitely recommend it if you want a Yak.

The plane is very beautiful, the kit is a little fragile but nice. The esc that i used is the HK red brick indicated here, but I use two digital sevo 2.2 12.5g on the ailerons and it do not work, the esc do not suport so many amperage, so I change for turnigy 9g and it is ok! I am using 2650 4s bat nanotech. 14x6 prop! very nice and I recommend!

Exceptionally nice looking model, quality covering and well built. I used an E-Flite 15 for power, which is right in the zone for this model's weight. I added 1/2 oz. of weight ahead of the wing to achieve balance with a 4s 2500 lipo. First flight was great and required almost no trim. Inverted flight was absolutely level and required no correction. Unfortunately during the second flight the motor mount broke throught the center, causing the forward half of the motor mount with the motor attached to exit the cowl. I was able to bring it down with only minor damage. The prop chewed up the cowel, and a broken piece of the prop damaged the canopy. Prior to the first flight I reinfored the motor mount with CA glue. Apparently that was not enough. Once I put the two pieces of the motor mount back together and brace with light ply, I will add some carbon fiber support rods to each corner of the motor mount. In spite of the weak motor mount, this is a great flying and very stable aerobatic model. I can highly recommend it.
