I just bought this kit but it's been manufactured incorrectly.
Have a look at the base plate I have attached the top left curve slot hasn't been cut out. Had anyone else had this problem?
target=_blank>Base Plate
HK support are telling me that they don't have replacement parts. I want them to just look in another box and confirm there are 4 slots as per the images of the product above and send me the completed kit. Not one that hasn't passed Q&A. Does anyone have some advise on how I can handle this?
*Sigh* pity there support team don't even bother to look or read what I have logged with them. I've pretty much been told bad luck. This is a brand new kit... :(
Hi All, What is the exact weight of the frame (without motors,ESC,Flight Ctrl...) ? Can I can mount 35xx motors on it (according to Specs :"Mount holes 14-30mm" => must be ok)? Thanks.
Hello Flying Banana (could be nice to see it flying :-)) My box arrived last Friday. total weight is 294gr but did not yet remove the blastic bags (so some gr less) yes 35xx should be good. I'm using D2836/8 with 4S and 8X4 props and SimonK flashed 20A ESC. This is way too much(hoover at 38%). 3S is more than enough (hoover at 54%). Very stable with KK2 version 1.5 So except if you want to lift a BIG stuff, then the 35XX is not needed and you can go down to 28xx. Personally I selected 2836/9 nut they were out of stock at time of order that's why I got the /8 Enjoy flying
You have width 600mm, so the distance between two motors nearby should be around 400mm. With 12inch prop you have around 300mm. So you will have about 100mm between the ends of two props.
Hello Leo,as georgiev said, the aceptable prop size is up to 16 inches size possible. Now the size you will use will depends on the motor size and the KV of it and the number of cells you are using. there is a very good internet simulator calculations for quad on internet for example this one remove all spaces and replace the TT h**p://w w w . ecalc . ch / xcoptercalc . htm? ecalc&lang=en then entering all your parameters as said above you can even have the flight duration. Enjoy flying
Thanks Guys, I asked because I've used ecalc & it gave me good results for sf 1045 props (that I already have) but the suggestion of 9X5 made me think that it might be the max threshold of motor mounts. I'll be using suggested SK3 2826 1240kv.
Hello Leo72 go back to the ecalc site and check with bigger props. You will discover that "the bigger the best" as for a given weight and motor, the efficiency of the prop is better. I'm using D2836/8 with 4S and 8x4,5. It is way too much really going up like a bullet. Most of the time I'm using 3S which is really powerfull. enjoy flying
Thanks Chris,
Bigger props give more thrust but also increase the motor temperature & these days we have max outdoors temperature close to 40C. So I have to look for balancing heating & performance. I'm not much experienced so for this time I'm more into hover & slow flying.
Hey guys, I bought this frame as my first quadcopter ever, and I am really happy with it. The build is a breeze, took me one afternoon to have everything assembled. Plates are very nicely machined, with no visible flaws. I used KK2.0 FC blueseries 30A ESCs (which I swear by) and D2830-11 1000kv motors. The thing flies awesome, check out the vid. I have some vibration issues, but that will be solved soon.
Just been playing with mine today after a rebuild over the weekend. This frame is very good value although I had to buy two for repairs (not from HK which would have been cheaper). Its large enough to take larger batteries. I've been swapping between Zippy Compact 4000maH, 3S and a 3300mAh, 3S batteries. I probably won't use it for FPV though there are better frames for that.
HI.Im a beginer and i find the recomended setup quite expencive.How will this work with 2728 1000kw motors/Turnigy Multistar 20 Amp esc's/10x4.5 props/3s 50c 2200 mah lipo
And i have a small i86 and V2.1 (Atmega168PA) boards.
Its a good idea to use a voltage sensor or alarm. I'm new to multirotors as well. The four motors go through batteries very quickly and so flight times can be short. Your setup looks sound but you may need to use bigger batteries if you are planning longer flight times such as the Zippy Compact 4000MAh, 3S. Or I guess you could try two 2200mAh Lipos in series? Just an idea.
That's true but it also depends on your props as well. I'm using 930KV motors with 3S Lipo, & slow flyers APC 10x3.8 props, and there's plenty of power so 1000KV will be fine. I haven't done a power check. I use an HK power distribution board and power my controller (NAZA) using the JST connector on the HK board. I don't use ESC BECs. I hate to admit this but I had a lot of vibration & I'm currently setting up an MF450 frame I've had a while* probably won't be any better.
Higher KV motors tend to provide more power (higher number of rotations per minute per volt) and therefore draw more current and so for similar sized motors your 1000KV motor should give slightly longer flight times when using the same props. Smaller KV motors tend to provide more torque so can handle larger props but again the larger the prop the more current it will draw.
Its a good frame for the price. I use it with Emax 2218/11 motors and APC 10x3.8 props. The only issue I have with it is even after balancing as best I can the motors I'm still getting quite a lot of vibration. I'm using APC 10x3.8 props which are nicely balanced. I wish HK would make a board where the motor arms are damped from the frame holding the control board and camera when using it for FPV * something like the QAV500.
Hey i might order my own or buy this bnf from kijiji(hi parts) but this guy put 25 amp plush esc , with 11-4.7 props and 1700kv motors
I wanted to order fpv stuff after I got the quad not sure how well it would be with such big props and suck high driving motors?
Hello Paul, aggree with you. number are not compatible. 1700kV motors means high speed (18000rpm at 3S)for that you'll need 3000W or 270A. so your 25A seems a bit short :-). The practical prop will be 7X4.5 to match motor, 3S and ESC. It will gives you around 3.5kg of lift. The smaller the prop the less efficient they are, but it will also be smoother in speed change. So basically you just need to change the props or adapt you radio to have a very small gaz capability to not burn your ESC. No real problems for learning to fly the quad with smaler props, and no real problem for FPV. Just change the props. Enjoy flying
Hello Alex, this could gives you around 1.5kg of thrust at full power with 3S. It seems a bit short or you need to have light batteries. I expect the total weight to be around 700g battery. could be 900g total. As so you still have some margin in power, but not so much. You can set 8X4 prop and limit the power by programming the TX for not burning the motors/ ESC. This will gives you some extra margin. Enjoy flying
Hello Alex, If it is just to learn how to fly it 2812 could be OK, but not for hard 3D flights. Depends on the type of 2812 must state the KV and the battery you intend to use so I can help you about propeller selection please gives more info about the motor (also the wheight of it)
Italo, thanks for the answer. S
So 1300KV wouldn't have much punch as as 1100KV but would have more head speed thus putting some smaller/faster 8x4.5 carbon fiber props and it would haul and be more maneuverable aka, fast sports flyer, is this correct?
Hi, I'm going to use the following setup for this X525 Quad. Would it be suitable?. Your support is highly appreciated.
Turnigy L2215J-900Kv (200w) motors
Turnigy Multistar 30 Amp ESC
Turnigy nano-tech 5000mah 3S 25~50C Lipo
Yes, it would be suitable. But I think you should put a motor with more Kv, in my case I use one with 1200Kv. The ESC it's pretty good but if you don't care paying a little more, I recommend Plush ESCs(programmable). And nano-tech batteries are excellent, but way more expensive, as a more cheap option there are Rhino Batteries. I hope that I have helped, cheers
Hello John, Any size of prop can be used up to 16 If you need larger then you need some 3D type of building as props are passing on to of each other. :-( So absolute upmax is 16inches. or 42cm. AS Hasithafzr said with his words, don't forget to ballance the props as it induce vabrations which in turn make problems on the gyro controller. Enjoy flying
The x580 is a bit lighter and personally I like the x580 landing gear better. The X525 spring landing gear isn't very practical from what I have experienced. I own the X525 so that's just my two cents.
The i86 is great! The only problem is if you look closely you will notice it doesn't have corner bolt holes to screw down to your multirotor frame. The alternative would be to use some double sides foam tape to attach to the frame. Also, it is the next easiest board compared to the LCD board ($30) as far as changing functions goes and is much cheaper.
Are you using Internet explorer? I use google chrome. The reply button should not be starting a new thread. Do you have a smart phone? It usually works well on those too. Hope this helps.
I'm not an expert but I've been looking for motors for this frame and after using some simulation tools I decided to use the D2830-11 instead, with an S4 battery and 8x4.5 propellers (two blades), as it seems to be a good combination.
If you need more thrust you can use other propellers (8x4.5 three blades or 9x4.7 two blades) but still the same motor.
The chassis weighs really? That engine you advise me? this http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__32457__D2

here is the link to the X525 V3 Glass Fiber Quadcopter Frame 600mm fram on ebay ://****ebay****/itm/150696104706?ssPageName=STRK:MEW AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
what is the best battery for my setup listed below Will this work with the a " D2830-11 1,000 kv motor and a quad and a 3,000ah 3s 40c batter HK contor board v2.1. these are the battery i was thinking of http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8934__Tur nigy_2200mAh_3S_25C_Lipo_Pack.html or http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__24772__B_ Grade_2650mAh_3S_30C_Lipoly_Battery.html or http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8851__ZIP PY_Flightmax_3000mAh_3S1P_20C_.html
I really think there is a slight quality difference some times between hobbyking and eBay. In this case I would play it safe and get one from hobbyking.
ciao a tutti.
ho una kk multicontroller v5.5 multicontroller board v2.2 config.quadcopter.
volevo sapere se devo settarla o se e' già* pronta così*.
grazie
Perfect folding frame for beginners. It's heavier than a carbon one, but also not so fragile and expensive! If you have a little crash it will fold saving itself and other parts from damage. One more nice feature it has: spring loaded legs will save your electronics from impact when landing hard.

Just an Initial review, have not flown yet.
So far this seems to be a great Quad frame. Folds up nice and i can hang it on the side of my tool box to keep it out of harms way.
One note if using the Hobby King Quadcopter Power Distribution Board, you can only mount it one way because the bullet connectors will be in the way of the arms unless you solder them at a different angle.
I did have one spring that was broken but it was just the eye that attaches to the arm "spring-> (_IIIIIIII_) < This little hook was broken" But i just pulled a little of the spring out and made a new hook.
I also had some left over hardware too which is nice. You can also make it non-foldable by flipping the top plate over so the arms can't slide. Some of the holes needed to be enlarged VERY little so the bolts could pass through. Have not flown this yet but i will leave a review when i do.

If you are new to air RC like I am and you click the prop drive motor in the combo section, make sure you also order the accessory kit to go with the motor or you will have to make another order once you figure it out. I ordered the shaft type prop adapters that will not work with this kit. Oh well, live and learn.
nice product well made some issues with the springs on the legs little heads up fit them beffore you add the other half of leg otherwise its impossable to fit. the wight is 400G with all screws needed. alot of extra screws in box
