EDF Shark 850mm 64mm EDF, EPO (PNF)
EDF Shark 850mm 64mm EDF, EPO (PNF)

This fun EDF jet is easy to assemble, the 64mm fan unit, ESC and servo's are all pre-installed, the under-carriage is plug in, ideal for those wanting to belly land and the huge gaping mouth allows the powerful fan to gulp lot's of air, meaning there is tons of thrust for a 3s model!

Although not strictly "scale", the EDF Shark is a superb performer, fast, aerobatic and heaps of fun, it is a brilliant sport plane for little money, so if you fancy netting yourself a new fun-fly jet, look no further than Jaws here, he won't bite....much!

Great! Where can I find the flying pig model?
 SocialEnigma 2 points
I have seen the flying pig that you are talking about there no way to know if there is somewhere on the net that sells then because is a custom build.
 Michael 2 points
I wonder if it was using vectored thrust.

What motor is installed? I cannot find it on the HK website? 39L? Any specifications? Thanks!

I purchased Turnigy P2627L EDF Outrunner 4200kv for 55/64mm (Code #P2627L-4200) and I had to take a bit of plastic out of the EDF mount to accommodate this motor (only a few mm with a hobby knife). I got such bad vibrations from the poorly machined stock EDF I purchased a EDF64 with ADH300 Motor Assembled 252W(4300kv) (Code # EDF64-ADH300) and it flys great. Youtube "HobbyKing Flying Shark EDF FMS : Crash Landing In To Operator" for my set up in description.

ahha. I wondered that too. thanks :)

I found the c/g to be 85mm back from the wheels or 110mm back from the leading edge of the wing.(still needs a bit of down when inverted)It seems to handle slow speed well, and not to bad on speed if u dive it in, very predictable handling, which surprised me.

Received mine today. Should there be any instructions included? Don't really mind, but C of G suggestion, and whether or not the esc needs any programming, would be nice.

see above, I found 85mm back from the wheels was about rite.110mm back from the leading edge or the wing.

why does it have to be 2019 grams? cant it be 19 less? i would buy it if it was. they should sell the landing gear seperatly or something to bring the postage down.
 zSimon 29 points
Too true. I wish they'd do that with a few items. The mig / Sukhoi especially :D

This thing looks perfect once you take off the Landing gear. I like the paint job on this too, it looks a lot better than the previous light blue one.

Thats true,..on the other hand once u belly land this,..u will need to be really gentle n level or it will flip on u,..irregardless of what new material they use...something will break when this thing do cartwheel lol

25a esc is either too small, or the outrunner is underpowered in KV. With that AUW 700g, there's just no way for the edf to achieve 1:1 thrust/weight ratio. 700g thrust with 3s lipo on a 25a esc is questionable.
 KaosKane 1430 points
this is a scale flying shark if flys correctly for a scale shark as sharks dont swimm directly down or up :}
 Kenneth 7 points
I have the earlier one and it definitely needs a few mods. It flies good but I was interested in longevity. This EPO version has very small vertical tail fin area compared to the first version. Is anyone having trouble with the smaller vertical tail area?

I haven't flown it yet, but no instructions, (c/g would b nice) the fan rubs on the housing & it's pull 30amps.(25a speedy) So typ H.C looks gr8 but in reality ther'z a bit to do. The fan is all glued in so change n the speedy and centering the fan in the housing is guna mean some cut n. Also the survo's seem pritty sloppy, so i'll be change n them to.

I have flown it now and it flies quite well. I can't comment on the standard drive line as i changed it for a higher kv n bigger motor. I found the c/g to be 85mm back from the wheels or 110mm back from the leading edge of the wing. Unless u have a big runway it will need to be hand launched as it has very small wheels, takes a while to wind up and has no steering. Looks gr8 in the air & handles slow speed well, fun as intended & mine is quiet for a D.F, so good at my local park.

Haven't flown yet. Will do that tonight. So far I give it 4/5 stars: Build quality is good, but fragile wings and tail fins. Especially the upper vertical tail fin is very weak. The lower vertical tail fin will definitely snap off during a hard landing. I've made it stronger with a sheet of fiberglass. A carbon fibre spar through the wings would be nice. The fuselage looks very sturdy. Plenty of room in the battery bay. Should be easy to modify the plane for night flying. The wheels seem to be way too small for grass operations. Too bad the EDF is glued in. Needs some cutting to remove the stock EDF and motor. The 3900KV motor 25A ESC may be a bit weak for the 790 grams plane (with 2200mAh lipo)... We'll see how it performs. Easy to assemble, although no manual supplied. The C/G is said to be 11cm behind the leading edge of the wing.

Ok, just made my first flight with the Shark. Quite impressed with the airspeed (full power)! I thought it would be a slow fish... I found the shark flying better with some speed (like full power). When flying with 50pcnt power it seems to want to stall easily. I found my C/G a bit far aft with 11-12cm behind the wing leading edge. Maybe 10cm is better. Should be possible to place a larger battery up front. Looks like my wing is a bit bent or so. I needed a lot of trim to keep it flying straight (lot of aileron deflection). I'll try to straighten out the wing. What really was a problem is the ESC! 25A is just way too little. After 2 minutes of flying the ESC went into self-saving program where I could not select more than 60pcnt power. When I landed the ESC was too hot to touch. Good that it's protected from overheating, but I think at least a 35A ESC is required! ESC seems to be poorly balanced. A lot of noise at 40pcnt power. Overall 4.5/5, also see my previous review where I forgot to write down that one of the servo's was dead on arrival. The other ones will be replaced as well soon... Recommended! Looks great in the air! Flies great!
