Would this work for a 4100kv edf running on a 3cell? Thanks in advance
 Kimmerek 324 points
The question is how many amps this 4100kv setup draw? Link here the ID of motor and propeller.
 WillF 1 points
EDF55-C20. HK claims it pulls 18Amp. I think a 30A Esc will be better suited.
 Kimmerek 324 points
There is always nice to have a 20% stronger ESC than max motor current. This 30A ESC or similar 25A ESC will work fine. Using 18A is too risky.
 WillF 1 points
For a 3gram weight increase I think 30A, but dose this ESC support high speed EFDs?
 Kimmerek 324 points
Yes, it is.

Does this have any connections on it?
 Kimmerek 324 points
No, you have to buy and solder connectors for battery (like XT60) and motor (like 3.5mm bullet connector). The only available plug is standard servo plug (JR), which is already soldered. 397 points
you buy the ones with the connectors sometimes the connections aren't good. if you solder yourself, you tend to solder better having a peace of mind. that was my thinking. this has been the best esc i ever had for multirotor and planes.

Are these esc flashable?
 Kimmerek 324 points
Yes, you can flash it using Turnigy Besc programming card. 397 points
like for simonK, no. i tried flashing mine and ruined all 4 esc. it says these escs can be flashed but we tried. it's better the way it is. smooth response throttle response.

Why oh why don't these Esc's work with spectrum radios? Will work with Turnigy 9Xr with Spectrum module but NOT with A Spectrum 7S or with 6i...Should be a warning about this.
 john 13 points
Well I can't say I have ever had a problem with using these on a spectrum 6i, which I use for many things. This is a bit of a puzzle to me, I have used both Spectrum receivers and orange receivers , with the ^i spectrum transmitter. Have used in both airplane and quad applications. Try turning on the transmitter and moving the throttle to the top, then plug in the receiver, it should give two beep, disconnect receiver then plug it back in reduce the throttle to the bottom, there should have been some beeps, now advance the throttle you should have control. best guess

I bought this speed controller for my 450-class helicopter. It seems to be perfectly suited for similar helicopters (t-rex 450, zoom 400, sjm 400, ...). It weight and price is much lower than the 40 -A-version. It has 40 A peak current, which is far enough (the average consumption of the helis above is usually less than 15 A). The speed controller works perfect and has a smooth throttle curve, would buy it again (and probably will).

These are HobbyWing Speed controller which are absolutely fantabulous!
I love them and have almost their whole range of esc's. Use them on all my planes and have show good efficiency and reliability through the years!
If you have used hobby wing ESC's you know what i am talking about. Get a programming card as well, its super easy to use and will be worth every cent.

ONE FLAW is that the governor mode hardly works well with helicopters. Using the 40A version but without governor mode as it won't hold the headspeed up well. Using a throttle curve is safer. Either that, get a jeti or CC for heli. Its perfect if you are not doing 3D though!

Nice ESC, a bit of a pain to program with your transmitter, but do-able. If you do get this ESC, get the programing card, it'll make things a lot easier.
