can Any 1 Tell me if this will Work ok with a Pitts 52 inch .with 3x hard case 6000mah 65-130c making 22.2 volt ,esc 80-100 amp. this Motor with either 18x6 or 19x8 prop there about . or Is this Not going to work .Can Any 1 tell me before i do try test similar combo to this ,.
 bpatrickd 27 points
You may find that this motor is to large/heavy (540g) for a 52”* Pitts. This motors KV is low for your battery and prop combination. You will not want to use a larger prop, the torque effect will become significant. Your battery is a bit large/heavy for this size plane. If you reconfigure your batteries to provide more than 22.2V you could use this motor. It would be better if you target a 16”* to 17”* prop with your current 6s battery and a ~400g motor with a 350Kv to 400Kv.

Pat ,thanks For advice ,I can see your concerns are greatly Experienced.I do realize The Battery is Heavy ,So using different battery ,my Variety of props is good. And Knowing I am able to use this Motor would Be good .i have 3 x 7.4 volt In a few different sizes .to obtain the voltage with over 22.2.,, What would you advise with this ,as i an new to this sizes ,being a step over the Average park flyer.
 bpatrickd 27 points
If you already have this motor and you must use it in your application you will need to put together a 10 cell battery (~42 V) targeting a total battery weight of <600g. If you are limited to a 6 cell battery (22.2V) the easiest (cheapest) thing would be to purchase a motor that fits your needs: a 400g motor with a Kv of 350 to 400.
Take a look at the smaller KDA outrunner, KDA 50-14L, it looks like it would fit your needs well. You can run the KDA 50-14L with your 6 cell (22.2V) battery and a 16”* or 17”* prop.

I am running this esc on a 30cc yak with a KA63-28S motor and 2 6cell lipo’*s in series (Making it a 12 cell setup). Can someone help me with a problem I picked up? This setup has more than enough power, in fact it takes off on half throttle. The problem is, if I go over half throttle the motor makes a screeching noise and looses rpm’*s. Why don’*t I have a full linear throttle?

Sory I am using a Turnigy dlux 80A HV Brushless Speed Controller (OPTO)

Check the "C" clip on the motor shaft. If it has come loose the motor bell can shift forward which drives the current draw way up and the performance way down. I put a collar on the motor shaft after having this happen during a static power system test. This is not uncommon on this size motor, many come with a locking collar.
 BrianB192 1294 points
Yes Pat ,I Have this problem ,.Many Of the Larger Motors Have this shaft Collar ,And Last Night i spent alot time trying to Loosen ,A motor little smaller in size. it was to go in 52 pitts, But on test ,Motor Became Very Hot in seconds ,smoke cam out ,, as wires Become hot .I found Motor To be Tight ,i found Oil Seal Damage .possible cause was seal hitting baring , But Motor Is still Tight ,and I might need to replace Barings ..,Motor Has Not Run from New ,got it last week ,totally defective as was the ESC sent with it ,Just Dead on arrival HK 70, dead ,found after fitting all the Plugs ,,its 5 x this ESC now sent defective ,so i got the turnigy as you told me.Quality is better .

none of the wires are marked. how do find out which ones are which?
 H-KING_SCOTT 5161 points
It does not matter, initially connect any 3 of the motor to ESC wires in any order then test direction of rotation, if it is wrong, change over any 2 of the 3 wires to reverse direction.

hi, if a had to buy this engine to put in the edge 540 from great plane, with 78 inch of wing, what esc would i need to buy???? is it true that hextronic esc are beter then turnigy esc... thank you!!!
 firemansorel 27 points
i forgot to tell you that it use a 20x10 or 18x8 prop... thanks again...
 bpatrickd 27 points
For the 20X10 prop you will want to run an 8 cell lipo battery. To run the 18X8 prop you will want a 10 cell lipo. Both setups require a high voltage ESC. I would look at the TURNIGY K-Force 70A-HV OPTO Brushless ESC (the same as the Hobbywing 70A HV ESC).

I am running this motor on an 11 cell A123 battery (equivalent to a 9 cell lipo) swinging an 18X12 on a 60” CAP. I am using the Hobbywing version of the ESC and it has performed very well for me.

what do you think if i use this Motor On a 52 inch Pitts with 3x7.4 volt 22.2 volt from 6000mah hard case x3 ,would it be To large and Heavy , or ,> will it be good 3D Pitts ,!

35 thumbs up!
I bought this motor instead of an AXI 5320/28 to power a Thunder Tiger F8F Bearcat. The model was designed for a .90 sized glow motor and it weighs about 11 pounds RTF.

I'm running a TP 9s2p 4200 mAH ProLite battery. The motor draws 50 amps with an APC 15x12 four blade pattern prop. It's really quiet but pulls the model vertical like a homesick angel-) The model does 80 MPH easily in level flight and I measured it doing 100 MPH downwind with a doppler measurement program.

The motor is very durable as well. I've had a few nose overs which bent the motor mount but the motor keeps going strong after a dozen flights. It runs very cool as well.

I highly recommend this motor to anyone looking for the best value for large scale aircraft.

20 thumbs up!
great motor, put it in a 25pcnt 260 extra by cermark. used 10 cells 4800ma zippy, great batteries, motor draws 2300 watts. the most important thing is the motor accelerates under hard throttle so 3d is great.

gassers eat your heart out, electric rules. this is 3 hp and under 4 lbs. encluding motor, speed control and batteries.

I am using this motor with 2 x 6cell lipo's in series and an 80amp esc and 18 x 12 prop in a 30cc Yak. At first I had a lot of problems with the motor loosing power over half throttle and making a screeching noise. After some discussions everybody told me it was timing. I changed the timing from automatic to high. Smoke came out of the motor after about 5 seconds. I took the motor apart and found that the magnets moved and is touching the back plate. Moved and epoxy the magnets back. I throttled it up again, everything seemed fine until the motor pulled out of the engine mount provided and demolished the planes nose. The motor mount is definetly to weak for this setup. I will rebuild the nose and tell you if I managed to fly this plane.

Major complaint is advertised weight = 460 grams! This it most definitely is NOT... straight out the box onto the scale it is measured at 535 grams - a significant error when weight is a main criteria for selecting this motor...
