Hi, i was looking for a plane to use a 2.900kvs motor i have from my helicopters. Would it work with this plane? I'm a total beginner so also ask if this plane is easy to fly ( not talking about the mounting process) thnks!
 Sean 1 points
I am a relative beginner to R/C planes-in fact this was my first HK plane-the kit is easy to build, and really a joy to fly.My only problem was the recommended motor blew after 2 flights and the one I am using in its place hasn't quite got the same ooomph (power) but it flies nice on a 2S and even more on a 3S. I built the kit version, and have a 2nd I will convert to fly with ailerons.
Vladislav123  4 points - 5/30/2013

Is it ready to fly, or it is needed collecting?
 Aaron 3 points
I would say not ready to fly. Requires: Your Own 4 Channel TX & RX 2 x 9g Servo 2200mAh 2s Lipoly Battery 2200kv Brushless Motor 10A ESC w/BEC Lightweight Covering Hardware Undercarriage
 Vladislav123 4 points
I see, electronics are needed. But I am interested in another. On the first foto there are only balsa and on the second one collected model. What will be sent?
 Aaron 3 points
Oh, sorry. You will receive the kit as seen in the first picture. It is up to you to assemble and paint it. The second picture shows what it could look like once built.
 Aaron 3 points
Those cutouts in the wing and wingtips won't be there in your model though. That is just to demonstrate the inner fuselage of the wings.
 NewToHobbyKing 7072 points
Vlsdislav123 this is the KIT version. You get the balsa parts no covering, (very basic). You can buy a ARF (Almost read to Fly) version. "Idol Traditional Balsa Trainer 3 Channel 890mm (ARF)" (PRODUCT ID: 099000011) and a (PRODUCT ID: 099000012)with electronic. Both need very little assembly. I hope this helps!

I know this is available in the HK warehouse but postage is twice the price of the kit. :~(((((( When are you going to stock this in the Netherlands Warehouse, like the PNP version?
 NewToHobbyKing 7072 points
For everyone who want "Idol Laser Cut Kit 890mm (KIT)" in their local local warehouse please also consider placing a request in the Members Forum (Blue tat at top of Page) as well. In that forum under "Questions For HobbyKing" is a Topic "What do you want to see in your Local Warehouse".

I have placed a request on the forum. Strangely, the second time I went to check the postage it showed an option that was half the lowest last time I looked. Mark that up as good customer care. Anyway I've bought the kit and it arrived yesterday. 9 days to Spain isn't that bad at all! One observation. The documentation and the picture above show that the servo tray goes in with the servos at the back. On the current kit I have the servo cut out is at the front of the tray. Maybe a change to help keep the CoG forward?

Where is the CG point?
 Johnnie G 22 points
Measure a quarter of the wing cord at the root from the leading edge then place a mark, then repeat this time measuring a Third and mark. Take your ruler and measure halfway between this 2 points and you'll be, if not spot on very very close. As for Glow powering this, speaking as someone who regularly flys Cox RC, an 09 will be too big for this plane. I have a Multiplex Hummel (55in span 730gram 3 channel trainer) that flew OK with a Killer Bee 049 and now tears around the sky with a TD09 in it. If you search 'cox tee dee 09rc Old Timer' on You tube you'll see it and a lot more small engine stuff besides. If I were taking ownership of this plane I' d fit a NV (Norvel) 061 very powerful, very easy to live with, cheap as chips and crazily good on fuel. Good Luck

Where is the CG point?
 LEPISSIER 36 points
generally the CG point is located around the main rib that reinforce the wing. it's not a rule that works everytime but it can be a good approximation to see if your model is well balanced.

can it be made to fly using a nitro system?
 NewToHobbyKing 7072 points
Anurag yes it can. Just put a but more strength in the motor mount. Also a bit of fuel proofing. I think a 09ci (1.5cc) at least. It would tear up the sky with a 15ci (2.5cc) Good Flying!

There is lots of questions about this item so I will post what I have done to help with your questions. First of all I bought this airplane and shipped it to canada it cost around $30 canadian. I then also did some research to figure the best motor/ESC to suit this plane. Motor:D2826-6 2200kv Outrunner Motor Motor link: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem
.asp?idProduct=12919 ESC:
HobbyKing 40A BlueSeries Brushless Speed Controller ESC Link: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem
.asp?idProduct=11430 I
also installed this landing gear (Carbon Fiber Landing Gear 100mm)with homemade skis for landing on the snow. This combination of ESC/Motor with a 3s 1600lipo and a 7x4 prop gives amazing pull and flys fantastic. Any Questions? Please Post them I will try to answer them. Click Like if This Helped you.

Lithail this is all great INFO but after a few months it will scroll down and out of view. It is such a shame. So why not post some of your great INFO on the Home Forum (Blue Tab at Top of Page). We need to use it more and be able send request to collected info there too. Also lastly why did you not post a review. It seem many do not do that!

This kit is great with a AP .09 nitro engine only requres a bit of extra strenth in the front end and alls good the AP .15 is to large even when flying on idle ??? try a 7x6 or 8x4 and you will enjoy this kit its a great trainer very stable and glides with no power very well highly recommended and quite tough for a trainer and not too over sized making it easy for transport good stuff hobbyking .
 NewToHobbyKing 7072 points
Enya08 also a bit of fuel proofing is needed. Good Flying!
 enya08 13 points
yeah goes without saying if your using fuel , glow ,diesel ,petrol ect fuel proof the timber i dont use electrics not as much fun and this is standard practice much like using glue to join timber
 NewToHobbyKing 7072 points
Yes I do know, you know, what you are doing. BUT, you have many readers, (who never reply), who find your help great. They may know to use glue, but since you are changing this from Electric to Fuel, some reader may not be aware of FUEL PROOFING. So it is nice, we could have this chat about it, THANKS Enya08

NewToHobbyKing has a few names like Mr. KalyanProdhan from West Bengal India Plus has accounts in the name of Sharron, Allison, Sally, Chris, DelSt and others. this person posed as a female on this forum and scammed over $2,000.00 off it and kicked off twice. But he's sneaked back in under a fake Name and is trying to get you to vote for him. He's liar and a cheat.all his/her/its votes are faked. he cheated to get them.

 Agathangelo 12 points
I already bought it and I was pleased, but mounted the wing without dihedral and made 2cm ailerons, very good for training. Eu ja comprei e fiquei satisfeito, mas montei a asa sem diedro e com ailerons de 2 cm, muito bom para treinamento.

Hi, Anyone knows what kind of hinge, horns and clevis should I use for this model?
 perpetualrepair 32 points
Just use fibre hinges, cut slots for them and fix with thin CA
 Sergio 162 points
Carlos. Boa sorte

AC Hinge Sheet 180mmx140mmx0.3mm PRODUCT ID: 307000001 For the hinges and HK thin CA to set them in with and I use the HK nylon clevises, they are adequate for a plane of this size.

How much will this one piece of kit going to cost me incl. cart etc. pl. ace
 lithail 17 points
I paid 47.00 canadian total but i also ordered 4 servo's with it. It is cheap and arrived in 2 weeks from china to canada

If your talking start to finish and you have the proper tools to cover and build along with your materials you looking around $125.00. That to include a motor, covering, miscellaneous(push rods, servos, clevis's, hings, landing gear, ect.) and some time and patients!

yes bro its a 3ch from the menufecturer but you can modify it to 4 ch

Yes 3ch is correct because the model does not have ailerons, then you will need only 3ch engine, rudder and elevator. But from what already received response airelons not add very difficult thing and oh yes you will need 4ch.

What kind of glue i have to use?

never use PVA swells timber causes warping , messy , heavy , too flexable the list goes on , alaphatic resin [true carpenters glue] balsa cement or CA is the go

I just finished building this airplane. I have never built an airplane before and i was truly impressed how easy this plane went together. I've uploaded a photo in the file-section, called Bare Frame. All parts fitted well together. The hardest part (and that was easy to do) is shaping the leading edge. The manual that comes with it is not written that well, but the pictures show more than enough to understand. You will have some parts left at the end. I'll use them to strenghen the frame here and there. What could be improved is adding airlerons. A modification not too difficult and it will improve handling a lot i think. After the maiden i'll let you know if it flies well.

It´s a great model for the price, the manual is almost useless, but with so few parts it´s easy to put together. Came with no box, just a bag but no parts dameged.
I will not assemble it so soon, but it looks to have a good fit.

I assembled this plane with some modifications. I made without dihedral, then took 2 pieces of balsa and made the ailerons. For flying I use four of 8g servos TGY-1800A, the engine is a FC28-22, the ESC is a Turnigy Basic 25, and the battery is 1300mAh 3S. The plane became an excellent coach, rises vertically and makes flight dorsal easily. My friends will buy it and make the same modifications. It is worth buying it.

I really wanted this kit that was on back order. Then I got an email that it was back in stock at a good price. WOW! What a shock it was to be advised that it would total $$$ twice the retail after all the taxes and S&H and what ever because it is a huge box? REALLY!? Twice the asking price!? If they could lower their last minutes add $$$ ons, I would have bought one.
