The Hobbyking R2 Speedometer is a car speed recorder designed for RC car hobbyists. It allows the user to record the car's max speed, acceleration, battery voltage, and even motor RPM!
Features: -Measures and records present car speed, max car speed, and average car speed -Measures the time it takes to reach a designated speed -Accurately measures battery voltage -Accurately measures motor RPM
Specs. Working temperature: -20°C to 50°C Weight: 21g (without connection wire) Dimensions: 33x11x69mm Input voltage range: 3~24V (7.4V recommended)
hi,i have made all calibrations needed for my car but i am not getting any speed indication.in the manual says to put the aligator end cable on to the wires of the brushless motor(yellow color).i have tryied it but nothing.i am running with 2s.
I had the same problem. connect 1k ohm resistor between the alligator clamp and one of the 3 wires (iron one of the 3 wires direct to the resistor) of your esc and it will work. good luck
thx i have the unit was just wondering how to wire it , it does say its really just suitable for 2s but can take upto 23v at users risk but how to wire up i dunno
Assuming the leads on one side are balance leads, you can connect the positive to positive & negative to negative. There is still always a safety concern, I've plugged things in to the wrong places & had a few small fires, just burned the devices luckily.
yep but need more than two ware, don,t you,i have the Banditan i up greaded to a biger motor brushless, now i kind of like to no how this thing will go,some body help.
john if your using 2s lipos in ya bandit it should be great set up as is, mine came with all the wires for 2s lipo battery to suit deans battery connectors what battery u use ? did you get no wires with the unit ?
Is it Bananabender,i am using the battery that came with car when i bout it,but i went to the brushles motor seem to be fast,i use two battery, not at one time ,two so i can run a bit longer, now getting back to wires,i only see two that i no of,hay thank for your help, but if i need more than two wires where do i get them from to hook this thing up,some one get back to me ok.
hi john mine came with deans battery connectors from memory which is what i use in saying that i can use it for 2s set up as is , ive not used it yet though , but you can find deans connectors here or maybe even the traxxas style if thats what your using , you will need to learn how to solder and buy the decent solder iron etc or i highly recomend maybe going to local hobby shop and asking for some help they often will solder up battery etc for small charge also youtube is very handy for learning about rc stuff look for squirelod he has some handy tips on soldering etc but like i say im yet to try my 1 of these ile also add hobbyking dont seem to have deans connectors no more they recomend using xt60 battery connectors and i think thats a good idea if you plan to buy other rc toy maybe think about changing all battery connector to xt60 style plug or traxxas have a look here on h/k up on left side in index of items under battery accesories or adapters etc
I don't have one but it seems to be that all the other wires are just so it can measure the battery voltage and motor RPM (which is probably why you need to hook it up to one of the motor wires. Can you guys just try powering it up with a seperate 2S pack (if yu are using more than 2S)and not connect the other wires and see if it works? It should act like a GPS and record your speeds. If this indeed works without having to connect the other wires then this is a cheaper alternative to the Garmin Forerunners.
si lo es es compatible con todos RC cars trugys buggy trucks solo que cada no tiene in seteo diferente solo dejate llevar por Las instrucciones y un poco de imaginacion y lograras setear
this should work on scooters. It would be hard to get acurate results on a boat because it to top speed can very depending on the waves. if there are no waves it still would be hard to get acurate results unless you knew how far the boat traveled per turn of the propeller.
How about some out their in r.c land tell me about the speedometer, how does it work an how do you conect it to your r.c.car,i have the low class car the one call bandit, does it need wairs to conect to this speedometer are what. help
my answer is this work this my boat r/c!!! ok im need the exactly calculte speed to go my boat but y complement my boat with esc 120amp turnigy and the motor 3660 3060kv but my boat fly and y need see exactly speed for y much expense for this boat!! thanks for acept my bad english
Because it's based on motor RPM, gear ratio and tire diameter it's pretty much impossible to make it work with a boat. You need to know the slip percentage of the propeller which is pretty much impossible to calculate without already knowing the speed.
In an off road car it'll be off by a fair amount too since tires will balloon a lot at high speeds and change the diameter substantially.
Hi, Will this device work on 1:1 scooters? i need an accurate speedometer and RPMmeter, is this it?
How does it measure speed?
Will the RPM sensor detect RPM from spark plug wire?
it measures speed based off what gearing you put into it so you need to know your gearing and tyre dia. etc speedwise its taking a punt maybe read the files tab above but basically i would get a pushbike speedo for a scooter , i got this i dont use it i may in the future its recomended really for 2s 7.2volt batteries it does say it can take 23volts but read the instructions in file tab will explain how it works
How many pins has the balancing connector (white one on the picture? 3 or 4 pins? 3 pins means 2s balancing connector! I use 4s Lipos on my car and the balancing connector has 5 pins! How do I have to connect this? Must I connect the balancing connector or does the speedometer also work with simple /- connection? Greetz
Anyone knows how to plug this thing in? Not sure how to connect the aligator clip. It says it should go on the cables that connects the motor with esc but exactly how???
You're right! I do apologize. It seems to be a nice device. Price is a bit high, but if works, it's OK.
Best feature is that is tiny, not bulky as some portable GPS.
This item is for electric motors or can be used also in nitro engines.?

im not sure what to make of this i bought it hopefully to record speed on my erevo , 4x4 slash , scrt10 etc but it will only work i understand on 2s well i allready know how slow im going on 2s i was hoping to know how fast im hitting on 6s in my revo but even if possible that it would handle it this item would not be accurate for SPEED TESTS i highly reccomend reading the instructions in the FILES TAB 1st before purchase , you need to input into device tyre dia. etc but with tyres ballooning it wont be accurate so its getting the cheese burger award simply for that reason alone
though it does look a handy bit of kit and looks well made , if your cluey with electronics mathmatics gear ratios all that technical stuff etc and the 2s deal go for it , i think it would be ok for on road cars on 2s alas
ile eat a cheese burger just i allways prefer a big 1 with bacon
well hell i have not recive it yet,i would like to no one thing, does all the wairs come with this speedometer, that you need to connect to my motor, are does it go to motor. help
