Fat Shark Predator RTF FPV Headset System w/Camera and 5.8G TX

The easiest way to get started with FPV!

HobbyKing and Fat Shark have worked together to bring you a Ready to Fly package that eliminates the guess work typicaly associated with FPV setups. Hey guys, I am beginning in FPV... I would like to ask if you had all the money in the world and you had to set up your first FPV system but it had to be as simple as possible to construct and operate what system would you get ??
Tommaso  1 points - 5/20/2013

How many of these systems can work simultaneously without interferences? You think that the ammissible working distance is the same for a plane or for a car?
Inigo  188 points - 5/11/2013

Yes it will in response to jahatton the futaba 9c does have headtracking.
jahatton  34 points - 4/30/2013

Hi will a Futaba 9c work for head tracking? Thanks Jim
edward  2 points - 4/20/2013

I fly with a futaba 9c fm flight control transmitter. should i use either 5.8 or 2.4 for my fatshark purchase?
 Nicholas Leigh 26 points
Either will work as long as its not the same band as your radio gear. For. 35mhz = 2.4mhz and 5.8 MHz can be used 2.4MHz = use 5.8mhz kit
Joel  97 points - 4/19/2013

hey, recently i got the x900 tri and im keen to get into fpv flying using it. I got no idea whats needed to get started with FPV flying tho, does this Fat Shark setup come with everything thats needed to get flying? also i want to use a GoPro camera so i can record aswell, does anyone know which plugs or electronics are needed to set a Gopro up with the fatshark goggles,or to get it working with a gopro anyway, cheers
 Nicholas Leigh 26 points
Yes just need a battery to supply power to the goggles and an adapter lead for go pro
Wayne  4 points - 4/7/2013

This is a general question* How doe the useable range of this system compare with the Spektrum TM1000 Telemetry transmitter? I am building a heavy lift hexa F800 using the Spektrum system and really don't need a FPV system with more range.* The Circular Polarized antenna should offer more range because of their gain over the standard "rubber ducky" antennas, is there anyone with real world numbers comparing the two antennas?
pinoydad  95 points - 4/3/2013

mine quit working ..dont have clear picture any more ..fuzzy white picture ..and channel wont change to make it better ..

Love this setup , but with the immersion 600 mw Tx and a large patch antenna

*BigBadBaz the camera i have is the exact one shown in the picture above, also i'm trying to mount it to a ideafly quadcopter
 sloboy 10 points
I mounted mine with double sided foam sticky tape onto a Guai 330x Quadcopter, its easy to fly with the Fatshark goggles but you can get lost easy so now plug a 7" monitor into the goggles so I can watch the model and screen at the same time . Heaps of fun and no crashes since while learning
Paul  5 points - 2/20/2013

Hi, how do you mount the camera that comes in this kit? i just bought one and received it today but have no idea how to mount it. All solutions will be gladly appreciated.
 BigBadBaz 1 points
It will depend on what type of model you intend to mount it to..? Plane? Multirotor? Heli? Boat? Do you want Pan & Tilt or fixed view? Pretty much impossible to answer without more info... All sorts of methods have been used, double sided tape, velcro, Pan & Tilt mounts like PRODUCT ID: Q005 can be used to mount the camera... Hope that helps a bit..?!?!?

Hello!! can you, please, specify about when will this item come to stock?

*Jesse, It could be the magnetic fields of the motors. Or as Bellflyer says the props that pass in front of the camera.
 vmamet 16 points
I've experienced this kind of wobbly distorsion of the image. 2 things does that. First it is the Propeller in front of the cam. The second thing is the vibration... still coming from the propeller. When I changed to a wood propeller. The blur effect reduced a lot. The sound too was affected. Hope it helps
bellflyer  38 points - 1/14/2013

It's from the propeller. The camera can't handle that speed of the prop. I suppose you have about 30 frames /sek?
 Berend88 31 points
not the prop but the magnetic fiels of the motors will make the screen blur that way. with my first fpv it took me al while to find it. placing your camera on another place sometimes works.

Ok! You never get to old to learn something new. Tnx
 Heli_King 225 points
Its not the magnetic fields either, its called 'rolling shutter' and its because of the type of camera used (CMOS) and the speed of the motor rotation 'resonating' with each other. Most folks flying FPV use a CCD type camera as they dont experience rolling shutter.
Jesse  1 points - 1/8/2013

I just now have started to use my FPV gear and I am noticing a video flicker at the top of the screen. Check out the video attached to see this and it happens when on the ground wherever I am not just when flying. Ideas?
 RVaitor 115 points
Rough landings as well as water can damage the camera/electronics.
 Jesse 1 points
Yeah I should have explained I had this issue right out of the box. I am guessing there has to be something I am missing with the setup.
DriesRC  285 points - 1/4/2013

how can I get the headtracking to work on my $pektrum transmitter? If that isn't an option, I also have a graupner/JR MX-12 40mhz transmitter
Marcos  1 points - 12/25/2012

How do I enable head tracking? I would like to use it w/ my RC car and head traking would make a better experience.
-MLG-  387 points - 12/19/2012

Does anybody have problem with head tracker that is moving too slow?
 Cristiano 18 points
It may not be the head tracker, but the servo. Try looking the movement in the 'display' tab of the transmitter. If it is normal, the problem is with the servo. If it is also slow, then the problem may be with the headtrack.
 -MLG- 387 points
all servos i tried are slow.
 Cristiano 18 points
Are the final angle correct? The servos just take long to reach the proper place?
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 -MLG- 387 points
That's right - servo reaches it's final angle, it just needs longer time to get there- from point to point (max left to max right, or up down) it needs around 3-4 sec. I have TGY 9X with er9x and I can see on Tx-es display that the movement is slow.
 Pedro 4 points
Hi, I have the same problem. ~Mine also feel very slow, and I've watched on osciloscope, and the PWM sinal is very slow as I move my had/goggles. the problem comes form gogles. I have a attitude SD that bought this year.
 -MLG- 387 points
Sometimes it works ok,.. but it's not perfect as I want
 Pedro 4 points
Found the problem!! Fatshark helped. I'm using a cable (gogles to radio) with a 3.5mmjack that has pwm in and out on same pin. If I connect power on goggles prior to connect cable to the radio, it works fine. No more delay on movement. Problem solved!

Suitable ID: 262000001? Connectors the same?
 QuadSB 424 points
I don't think so. I have that antenna (262000001) the connector says 'SMA/FME', it is SMA MALE. I think these googles have RP-SMA Female (like on WiFi router), this suits an antenna with RP-SMA Male connector (...Wifi antenna). That said, find a to on ebay/etc, try item#330478952087, for a good pic!

I had the head tracking working once then never again. I've tried to reset it by holding down the HK button while powering up and letting go immediately afterwards but it always just beeps 4 times then once then twice. Any advice? How do I reset the module?
julian  1 points - 11/23/2012

Yeah I found out the problem... The immersion 5.8ghz 600mw. The video out is gng en the gng is ground. So I switched the yellow and the black wire.. Problem solved
julian  1 points - 11/18/2012

Hello, Fatshark predator., immersion 5.8ghz, 600mw. Hd wing camera, Cloverleaf.. When I connect this the video is vague /blurry. I see only shapes in blue and white colored. I tried different types of channels. On both antenne it stays the same. What is wrong? The camera is okay and recording well. Please help!
 Thorax78 231 points
Are you sure camera is ok? If you can try camera connected directly to goggles using the av/in cable so you can exclude camera or goggles problem.

if i buy this with Turnigy 9X radio, will the camera move like my head. or do i have to buy somthing more???
 srepfler 1119 points
Yes, but you need to mount camera on 2 servo and connect and setup tx. Buy FPV Fiberglass Pan-Tilt Camera Mount and 2 servos.

1 thumbs up!
Mounted mine on a GWS slow stick with a tiny GWS gyro on the Aileron channel its rock steady and ideal for learning FPV , the goggles are like looking at a distant screen so I take off without them and then slip them on while flying over head , I range checked the the camera to 650 metres but dont fly to far away , Good value for a birds eye view

1 thumbs up!
Excellent FPV system for Novice or Expert users, head tracker works excellent with the Turnigy 9x radio with almost no drift compared to other head trackers, goggle fits very comfortable and are easy to see. The 100mw with a Cloverleaf antenna will give excellent range, or you can always upgrade to a 600mw VTX and get even better range. Very happy with this system.

Just receive my order few days ago, about 5 working days from HK to Malaysia including processing, I think is reasonable. Kit says 'RTR' and yes, I power up the fpv transmitter with the lipo balance plug & turn on the video gogle, i see sharp image. However 4 star because I can't charge the supplied battery due to this 'Adapter plug for headset battery connector to XT60 ' faulty, i've to salvage a charge plug from an old transmitter to make a new adapter. Overall, it's a good buy.

You need to make a link from the middle solder to the minus pole. Don't make the same time consuming mistake to solder from the side -because it will only give contact to (-) while there is no plug plugged in! Once the Plug is inserted and presse!!!!!!!!
