I bought this truck last year and spent 1 month trying to fix everything that keep going wrong. Some of the things like:
1. An AMAZING amount of stripped screws while trying to tare the truck down
2. Having to tare down 90% of the truck just to correct the belt situation (installed incorrectly from the factory)
3. Having to cut a HUGE hole in the front diff box so the belt would stop rubbing against it (SO THE WHEELS COULD MOVE)
4. Horrifically bad steering servos (one refunded by hobbykingUSA)
5. One of the tires was made so badly, you could touch the side wall and it would rip apart.
I never really got to drive it. I spent 95% of the time working on it. When I FINALLY got everything working correctly, I was SO sick of it I sold it on ebay. I had over $200 in parts just to get the truck running and when I sold it for $350 - $100 for shipping I was left with about $200. I used that to purchase a Traxxas E-revo. Best RC I've ever driven. Seriously, these Rovan 260 BM aka HobbyKing BM are trash.
My neighbor bought one of these also & before too much time lapsed he filed a complaint with paypal, after paypal got involved hobbyking refused to cooperate & when push came to shove they gave him a return address & he had to pay over 100$ shipping only to find out HK gave the WRONG return address in an attempt to avoid refund! After contacting paypal and proving he had shipped it to the given address paypal refunded all the money AND the truck was Returned to sender... In the end he got his money back (minus shipping) & a Free truck. Hajahaja shame on you hobbyking !

Mine was very quick on acceleration and top speed is probably close to 30mph,
If you purchase this prepare to put a little ork into it,
as with all rtr RC's you will need to strip it down and loctite all the metal to metal Screws etc,
Some people take a new rc straight from the box and expect it to perform,
I have now converted mine to brushless and its fantastic,
Way lighter and faster than a petrol engine,
wheelies easily with trackstar 55/92 730kv motor on 8s with trackstar 200A esc,

HK never made good on the warranty truck parts broken on delivery. 1/5 4x4 front diff bad.Needed gears. I did everything they asked over 3 months more then 20 e-mails I sent all pictures they asked for . No parts offered ! I hope any new customers thinking of buying any read this first and go buy the hobby items some place else !
HK will not warranty anything you just get screwed ! This truck is **** Don't buy it !

Id like to have this cow of a car, except ELECTRIC! I know theres motors that provide plenty umpf to replace this gasser, id gladly pay for a behemoth electro car.
Gassers are just too messy for me.
At this size of a MT I would keep it gas. I'm having a blast with mine. Going electric will only give you 5-7 minutes of fun at one time before swapping batteries or recharging the one you have. =a lot of down time or a lot of batteries
The main thing keeping me away is the grime and oil slick a gasser produces, so for me its electric or nothing. And I dont think the 7 minute runtime is true anymore. Theres some pretty powerful 1:5 shortcourse trucks belting around for 15 to 20 minutes easy.

I haven't found what they cloned yet. It is not an FG like some people were thinking. It is indeed the Rovan Sport Big Monster but I haven't found a source of parts.
So just an update to my review. Since day one there has been this dragging somewhere in the drive train. At first I thought it was the clutch, then the gear mesh. Now I know its in the belt system. I know this because the spur gear ate the C-Clip and the dragging is occurring without the spur touching the pinion. I went about removing the engine and gearbox and breaks etc and confirmed that it is indeed the belt. Best I can tell there may be a seized pully on the front end, I hear a squeaking up front now that I don't have the gears clanging away, or maybe the belt is rubbing on itself in the center. Going to work on taking apart the front end tomorrow.
One thing I would recommend getting extras of is the C-Clip that is used on the arm pins on both the front and back. Each pin uses 2 c-clips and ive already lost one off the back, can see loosing more of these.
I have the manual for the FG 4WD Monster truck and while the FG is mostly metal, this is the plastic and metal clone of it. I tried loading it up to the files tab, but it keeps failing. I'll try again later on.
Thanks for the info on the belt. I stripped my belt drive all down. There are a couple of places it rubs. I posted some pics and a mini build thread on the forum. It definately rubs in the middle of the channel. The teeth on the belt clash slightly. I substituted a decent mid weight silicone grease and it is much much smoother now. I am almost at the point of giving it it's first serious run.
Belt drive channels are assembled incorrectly by Rovan. Th Manual also shows them incorrectly assembled. The lower channel needs to be flipped so the open side faces the metal Chasis. This is how FG do the original. Much Much quieter and smoother. I have uploaded the FG PDF to the forum. It still won't work here.
Once the main shipper is the International Warehouse, I dont understand why people who lives outside USA, EU and AU dont have a chance to buy this and others gasoline vehicles.
I was thinking it looked a little like the Redcat fifth scale gasser but on closer examination it is slightly different. The Redcat has a 30cc engine also.

If you have item exceeds postal weight limit you should contact customer service before purchasing the items. Specially this 1/5 monster truck that weigh more than 15kg.

Strait off the bat I want to say excellent value for money. That being said, it is not perfect out of the box and there is a fair amount of work to do out of the box before you start it up. First thing to do is take off all the wheels, you will see aluminum blocks with 2 set screws. The shaft is keyed for the set screws but on two wheels I found that the block wasn't tightened onto the keying. I would recommend blue thread lock on these set screws as well. If you fail to do this it will work the wheel nut off the shaft and the wheel will fall off on one side and over tighten on the other. I would do a good look over the whole car for loose screws, one that I lost was the screw holding on the front sway bar to the lower arm. On mine the clutch dragged on the bell out of the box. I took the screws off holding the bell and it seems to be because the bell wasn't aligned properly. I aligned it as best I could but couldn't get it perfect. At idle the clutch still drags slightly but not enough to move the truck. I'm hoping it will wear enough eventually to stop. Also watch out for the oil that comes with the truck, on mine the air filter oil bottle had come open and the oil was in the vacuum sealed bag. You will probably want to oil the shocks too, mine seemed dry out of the box but I haven't made it to filling them quite yet. The truck came with a manual which wasn't anything

Finaly got new front tires. Have run 4 tanks of gas so far 25-1 oil gas mix this truck will fly. I havr flowen RC planes for 40 years and this is my first truck it is faster than some of my planes. Love IT!
broke after 20 min run time rear diff will not turn

I realy got ****** i bought two of these pieces Of garbage and both broke within 10 minutes.They dont have all the parts for it so dont waste your money or spend days trying to get hobbyking to give you any support.Hobbyking dont give a dam about there customers and thats forsure,i know cause they screwed me real good and what can i do,go to china for help or support,i dont think so.So when you hear them talk about all this support that they do,its a straight out lie,DONT BUY THIS TRUCK,and dont exspect any support from anything else they sell.dont let them screw you because they do it every day.They should be banded from the United States period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whom ever said this is a great truck for the value ( The reviews above mine) must have been paid to write a good review. I've owned everything from Hpi, Team Xray, Losi, Team Associated, Traxxas, Kyosho, Tamiya, Ofna , SMARTECH etc...
This by far should be avoided!!!!
