Good advice for everybody, alvays juse a esc so can handle 1 cell more then what you gonna juse, this recomend 5 cell, and separat colling system for motor and esc. Then you gonna have a esc for ever. And long durable speed runs, gonna juse 6 cell, buy a 7cell esc or more. I have this and juse 4 cell 5000mah 45-90 , and 5 celll 6000,mah, and 3180 kv motor, always have a safe rang,

This Esc caught fire in Stock apparition running 6s setup and octura prop. Be careful.
Matthew  1 points - 3/25/2013

got this esc to go in the genesis. i am running 2 3s batteries in series (so 6s). the only other thing i did was the octura prop, i have run the boat 2 times so far and noticed somthing odd every time. when i pop the hatch off to check temps, the batts are cool the alum part of the esc is cool and the motor cool. but the 2 capacitors on the side are hot and smoking. any ideas? i figure it will stop if i go to a 4s setup.
 Andrew 1 points
Depending on how you are running your boat, there are several possible answers. The caps are there to deal with current spikes/dips ("AC ripple"). I would check how long your battery leads are. It's also possible that the prop you are using is too big (no clue which octura prop you're using). Do you have enough power supplied to the ESC?
 atle 15 points
on mine the deans t plugs are smelting, on esc and battery, jusing 4s and 3 blad 35 and a 3660sl 3180kv motor,4 pole 18w, any idea? i jusing a safe rang setup, end this souldt happand.hole wiring system are melting.
 Andrew 1 points
How many amps are you pulling? Is the motor hot? What gauge of wire are you running? How long are your extensions from batt (if any). I know that 4mm bullets are standing up to 85 amps using 10ga wire on my setup. I would seriously question the resistance on the wire you are using.
 atle 15 points
Its stock wiring, as they come whit, 10 cm length on batt, and aslo 10 on esc, 8 cm on motor, 4mm bullet and deans plugs, dont know the amps draw, motor and esc are hot, but stil working great, just cables smelting,

olá*, por acaso també*m tenho um destes e saiu mesmo fraco melhor tens o turnigy 180amperes sem problemas ja andei com 4s e neste momento 6s funciona impecá*vel....

I bought a Turnigy Aguastar 120a water-cooled brushless speed control and a brushless motor 1200kv about two months ago. I received it 10 days later and installed it with the motor properly. Everything working fine for 10 runs, I used two 3s 11,1v lipo batteries, lot of power and excellent control. But suddenly I’*ve lost control. After several tries I’*ve manage to work the speed control but only with extra power supply in my receiver(6 volts). Probably the speed control burn out the power supply for receiver.I've allready send an email but still no answer. I sould have a replacement for my speed control. The speed has 120 days guarantee.any help or ideas?
 Couto 56 points
My AquaStar stop work exactly like yours. With 6s and 83 Amp peak run about 4 times 5 min and begin lost the BEC and the power. I have another one that run with 3s (65 Amp peak) and no problem. There are guarantee for this ESC?

I cannot calibrate this ESC with HK310 transmitter. I get the long beep at the full throttle position, per the manual. But then I move it to the full break position but no beep. Tried it at 120% EPA but didn't help. Any help would be appreciated.
newb.i.am  1 points - 9/13/2012

Hi. everything works fine but i have to recalibrate with the transmitter EVERYTIME i use this ESC (ie. i need to go throught the whole calibraiton process). any ideas why ?

Just received 3 of these for our RC Boats, easy to set up, and very responsive, however 2 of them dropped one of the motor leads (Black) off the circut board. Either it was ***r soldering or would it be from to much heat?? Just interested to know if anyone else had the same problem.

The wires still keep dropping off, is it bad solder connections, definetly no heat problems, and still no answer from Hobby King - Aus for my request, so maybe I will get an answer from the International group.
Thanks

ive got two of these and they both burned out after 2 min. at a temp, of 158(f). running with 2x3s lipo's and a b3660 w/3060kv. suggestions?
 Rcfanaat 7 points
Did you use 2 x 3 in serie? So 6s? I disconnect the BEC always by more than 3s (simply remove the red wire to the receiver) And did you set the right timing for your motor? What kind of boat, withc proppellor etc? I have several in use and after the correct setup, never had problems with it.
 mauro 3 points
yes, with this esc you can use a maximum of six LiPo cell, 22,2V total, i can suggest you to use almost twin 3S lipo 40C or more discharge, and almost 5000 mAh X2,in series mode. or maybe run along with twin 4S 5000mAh in parallel connection. Mauro
ShastaSloLrNr  2 points - 6/19/2012

can i run 2x3s 4000's with the 120 turnigy aquastar? does the motor have anything to do with this question?
 andrew 8 points
thats is what i use in my genesis works excellent. although running 6s caused the bec circuit to burn up. esc still works wonders just no bec.
 mauro 3 points
Yes, you caan use the Acquastar with twin 3S packs, remember to use the program card for parameters, don't overload more the Esc. Best with twin 4S 70C 5000 mAh in parallel... almost 25 minutes of runtime.
logan  5 points - 3/18/2012

will this cope with my to 4.5 mah lipo batters
 andrew 8 points
just as long as you dont go higher than a 6 cell lipo

It looks like a great ESC but can someone tell me what is the dimension of the ESC without the water inlets and outlets? I need the dimension only of the box part without the water cooling on the sides. Thanks.

Hi guys! Please can anyone tell me that ESC can work with two 11.1V batteries or it will burn?
 ccatalin 240 points
depending on the motor. Usually for common motors an esc of 20-30A will do the job
 Robbo1 1 points
hi there. I'm using this esc with 2 11.1 volt lipos wired in series and have not had a problem.
 Gustavo 28 points
not a problem, my friend. it is a 6S ESC. 2x 11,1v (3S) LiPos will make 6S it is designed to work with.

What is the wire awg?
 trumpy 209 points
going by the pic above it is 12 AWG
 Fugitive_Bill 418 points
Wow how'd ya read that? All I can see is the 1 then a BLUR then the AWG!
 Hamdhan 155 points
resembles 12! :D
 zeeek1 514 points
right click, save picture as.. Then open picture & magnify...
12 guage on input. Output as per 99% standard is 12 guage too.
 norbique 457 points
please tell me how better is this ESC compared to the Turnigy Marine 120A ESC? (AKA HobbyWing Seaking 120A ESC) THe price is a lot higher, don't see why.
 Hamdhan 155 points
I dont suppose the Maine 120A is water cooled
 norbique 457 points
Hamdhan, please take a look at the Turnugy Marine 120A ESC first and then comment here....
The Marine (as the name suggests) is intended for marine use, therefore IT HAS water cooling, furthermore, it is sad to be waterproof as well, and I don't see that mentioned here for the Aquastar 120A...
 Cananzi 7 points
It says ''water-proof PCB''?? regardless if it says waterproofed or not i would suggest waterproofing it yourself. No boats escs are actually waterproof.I just order 2 to give a shot
 norbique 457 points
I agree, no boat ESCs are completely waterproof out of the factory. I do waterproof all the necessary electronics inside my boats. (Receivers, ESCs)
Looking at the possible progrmmable parameters this ESC is still behind the Marine, Motor Timing options wise. OK This one comes with the program card, but there also a program card for the Marine for not much extra money...
Looking forward to your findings on these though! Let us posted! Thank you!

damage that in the technical datas is not included ,,Burst Current,,
 DannyB. 54 points
Burst current for this esc should be 150A according to the original Hifei swordfish specs......
 Micho69 273 points
This is a very low value :(
 DannyB. 54 points
Depends on how they measured it ... 1s or 10s makes a BIG difference.... I'd rather have a 10sec 150A burst then a 1sec 240 .....
 Micho69 273 points
Turnigy Marine 120A Brushless Boat ESC has burst current 240 A. :) ist best value.
 DannyB. 54 points
Like i said earlier ... All depends on how they measured that burst current....

If it's only 1 second it's **** and just shows nice figure to ignorant people without knowledge.... I'd rather have a 150A 10 second burst then that 1 second burst...

That 1 second burst esc will burn under hard acceleration !!!
 Micho69 273 points
This is true....
 Steven 5 points
Must only be 150A for 1 second burst. Eagletree logger on my boat recorded a max of 146 amp under hard acceleration for a few seconds and this ESC is toast....
 Rokcster 169 points
Just thought I'd mention that the ProBoat aluminum 45 amp esc that comes with the blackJack 26 IS Completely waterproof from the factory. Down side is it's only 45 amp. Rokcster.

Brought 2 of these esc's. Ran 3s ,4s and 6s lipos and it ran perfectly with no problems. Its seems more responsive compared to the turnigy marine series imo. I suggest waterproofing the esc properly as no esc's are truely waterproof. great esc :-)

I run this esc with my genesis cat and i only use 3S lipo because the maximum voltage on the instructions is 25.2V but when my Turnigy 5800mAh batteries are charged they have a voltage of 14V each (14*2=28V!!) so i cant run my boat on 6S lipo's because it will burn out. a tip for everyone, always check you true battery voltage before plugging in to your rc. it could cost you.
