Is there a pic from front and backside without shriktube? I try to find what kind of SimonK Firmeware need for this ESC, and what is different about hardware to mystery/bluseries 40A
 Roger 2695 points
Hi Woodpick, I'd like to paste the links of the images here, but seeing that will be just part of what you need. Instead, google for "RapidESC Database" and click the result with "RapidESC Database - 01 - Documentation in English - OpenPilot Wiki", in there, you can search for F-40A and see some more info about the hex file to be used. Hope that helps.

Is this ESC suitable for the HobbyKing S2838-2800 Brushless Inrunner (2800kv)? If not, what do you recommend?
 (Mike) 563 points
This is more than capable if you are drawing 30~35 amps. when using, keep the timing low and pwm frequency at 8khz and you should be fine. I prefer the dlux escs but they are too big and chunky.
 BB879 7 points
I'm putting it on a Zagi wing. The motor is rated 22A, would the F-30A (30 Amp) ESC be sufficient? How many amps does the S2838-2800 motor draw with a 5x5 prop on it? What does the timing mean?
 (Mike) 563 points
the 40 amp will work fine, you will push the 30 amp hard as max current could reach 35amp so be safe. Timing is basically to do with torque and efficiency. low timing is good for inrunner 2 pole motors as well all other motors. high timing is good for motors with low kv and high number of poles. This motor on 3s and 5x5 apc e prop will take 28 amps, give 600 grams of thrust. 72% efficiency and 300 watts of power

Thanks for the info! How did you get all these specs? Is there a program that calculates all this for you?
 (Mike) 563 points
search "drivecalc de" on google and download drivcalc 3.4, once extracted update data base and look for your motor. cheers

is this esc suitable for 2200kv brushless outrunner motor, 2200mah batteries????
 Iiccyeye 30 points
Yes it should work but I would suggest you too look for the motor specifications if this is a suitable ESC. It stated that this ESC can take 2-6 cells of lipo, so if you have annoying of that specified cells you should be good, the more mah you have the longer you can fly so that should be no problem for you *)
Tim  6 points - 4/26/2013

Christopher, Yes, it's actually the motor that beeps. Be careful to not have a prop (or rotors) hooked up to the motor in case it spins.
CHRISTOPHER  1 points - 4/25/2013

I just received this esc. I soldered my connectors on the power wires, plugged it into my receiver and connected the battery but it doesn't beep. I don't have the motor connected, will this make a difference?
 Iiccyeye 30 points
The motor is the source of the sound, try connecting and motor and test the ESC again or you can just test and see if any servo moves when you move the stick if your only power source is trough the ESC and you can also see if the reciver gets any power :)
Denismar  6 points - 4/23/2013

Someone could tell which programming card works for this esc40A?
 Iiccyeye 30 points
This www.link
 Iiccyeye 30 points
I linked to the programming card but they removed it, but the name of the programming card is this: HobbyKing ESC Programming Card
Lasha  13 points - 4/17/2013

which connector does it come with originally?
 Iiccyeye 30 points
It does not come with any connector, you have to sother your own connectors, I use 3,5 mm female bullet connectors and XT-60 male plug.

Hi someone here help me out please. I got 2 of this ESC for my HK450, and now all of them are not responding the throttle signal from my Tx but the still do Beeping and not responding for calibration. I try to the another motor but same as on the HK450 problem. Don't want calibrate and beeping. What need I do?
 wesix 122 points
they were working before ? or is it the first time you used them ?
 M 1 points
In order to use the throttle, you must let it cycle through the programming mode one entire cycle. When the beeping stops, lower your throttle all the way. Unplug the battery, and plug it back in with the throttle in the completely down state. You should get the normal confirmation beeps and all should be well.
rdeutsch  5 points - 3/11/2013

Is there also a version wiht SimonK-Flash on it?
 Christian 5 points
You have to reflash them with the SimonK firmaware by you're self. If you buy the USBasp, you can do it.
ike66  1 points - 1/10/2013

I have acquired two of these little boys. It is not a problem to enter the programming mode but in normal mode, the motor never spins. I have read the manual many times and do not see where I'm going wrong. A little piece of advise maybe? I tried whith D2826-6 2200kv Outrunner Motor.
 jhova1717 162 points
I had the same problem I had to calibrate the throttle channel in my tx then it worked great hope it helps it did take a few minutes to do
 Algufo 25 points
could you please upload the manual? It disappeared! Thanks

Hi, Is this good for a 450 sized heli going for a 6S setup? Thanks.
 jhova1717 162 points
No way to small
 JESMOND 1 points
hi PERDIFICATION....yes it is good for 450 pro...i am use that esc 40a....and still use it till now....now i want to buy an other one for trex 450 size too....GREAT ESC!!!.
 jhova1717 162 points
too big use the trust most people like it cause less weight and smaller ... it will work this one but there are way better ones
 JESMOND 1 points
IT IS GOOD FOR TREX 450 PRO...BUT WITH 3S NOT 6S....AND I HAVE A OUTRUNNER 4000KV.
 voltioloco 58 points
the specs ID: 9192000093 Turnigy HeliDrive SK3 Competition Series are: Voltage: 6S Lipoly RPM/V: 1700kv Motor Poles: 6 Internal resistance: 0.065 Ohm Max Loading: 26A Max Power: 550W I think this BEC are good for 6s on a motor less than 800w

Been waiting for weeks.. Can't HK just ship out those available stock from Aus? Jus bill us accordingly for the shipping. Weirdest policy is even if I click to buy from Australia warehouse stock that shows available, I was not able to check out because they won't allow shipping out from Aus to Sgp!

SBEC arrived from UK warehouse, quick delivery. downloaded manual, read it many times, but cannot get into programme mode. Which is best programming card for this speed controller?
 Gary 3054 points
Use the Hobby King ESC Programming card Part#926000016.
David  3 points - 8/23/2012

Could it be that there are some mistakes in the manual? For example, the manual says, that the ESC enters "working" mode directly after confirming a value in program mode. Well, when I set a value, I hear some confirmation beeps, but the motor does not spin up when I move the throttle stick then. So apparently I am not in working mode. I first have to reconnect the battery. Secondly, according to the manual I don't have to do anything to initialize the throttle range. Correct? Third, when I enter programming mode, there is no separate beep that shows that I am in programming mode now. Instead it directly starts cycling through the settings options. And so on... HK, you should really review the manual once again...
 Michal 5 points
Did U turn on the motor?? i have same problem

David Michal

Good night, you guys were able to operate the engine, because I am having the same problem, am I doing something wrong.
Can someone help
 Dylan 1 points
I have got it successfully ranged. And flashed to SK firmware as well. I feel for you reading the manual.. I read too and find it a pain and feel like converting it for them becoz I'm a Singaporean Chinese and felt we could do better in word choice for such a good ESC. S can you confirm if you had connected a motor to it? Yo powered it with battery or external PSU?
Vincenzo  1 points - 8/16/2012

Hello All, first time buyer here. Does this ESC come already complete with soldered terminals or it is required to buy them separately in combo? Thank you.
 Xrust 33 points
Hi there! This esc comes without presoldered connecters, so you have to solder them by yourself.
 waterlogged 2843 points
You will need both the bullet connectors and the battery plug to suit the battery you use.
 Dylan 1 points
You need basically 3.5mm bullet connectors to plug into motor side. Most higher end motor comes with 3.5mm attached. If not, its your choice to go larger than 3.5mm.
Rusmadi  2 points - 8/13/2012

Hello, can this use for hk 450 gt pro helicopter ?
 Xrust 33 points
Hi! Yes you can, but it is just little big so you maybe want some smaller esc. I recommend hobbyking ss series.
 Bobbiesworld 12 points
Absolutely. I have a 45A esc on my 450. Yep it's a little big but it works great. *-)
 waterlogged 2843 points
I can't imagine wanting to cart this monster around on your heli. The Trust is more compact.
Ashish  97 points - 8/9/2012

I plan to use it in my 450 PRO V2 FBL Setup..any thoughts ?
 Ashish 97 points
oh and motor will be the Turnigy 2215H Heli Motor
 Helimike1976 72 points
good combo, I use it and love it. Good power from both and runs fairly cool. nice smooth start up from esc and in that bird of yours it will do great.

Does anybody know this refresh ratio? Or does it work with DJI NAZA Quad balancer system?

I will answer to myself, i have succsefully tested this esc with Dji naza. It worked perfectly. I recommend this for quad use! Extremely easy to config with your transmitter.

is the BEC side(voltage regulator) switching or linear? 4Amps is quite a load and if it has to dissipate the difference between 3s or 4s and 5Volt it will get very hot. 11.1-5=6.1*4A= 24.4Watt! So really I hope this has a switching BEC.
 magnusEl 1238 points
Copied from the manual:
Notice:
1)* The ESC with SBEC supply steering engine with switching power. The output voltage is 5.5V. The
load current of steering engine is 4A. At the moment of 2 seconds can reach 8A.
 Sawdust 1632 points
The S in SBEC I'm pretty sure stands for switching.
 Ronald007 406 points
I agree, switching.
fishfiend  11 points - 8/13/2011

This appears to be a rebadged skywing 40a esc, judging from the dimensions and programming instructions. I have one on my hk450pro and it fits perfectly underneath the battery tray. That said, the 15 sec helicopter mode ramp up seems to have a few issues,Firstly it goes from 0 to about 20% instantly and ramps up from there, and it only does it on first start up so if you land and then take off again the heli will throw itself on the floor and chicken dance and programming...well look at the manual you'll see what i mean, programming card I think! all those beeps are a pain but it can be done. All that said it delivers the power well and the sbec is great at 4A.http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/images/e

Our PCB's are pretty generic, so it's easy to confuse these with a variety of other sticker-brands.
Manual has been borrowed and adapted.
 fishfiend 11 points
yeah, fair play Anthony that's why I put those comments in the discussion section as opposed to a review. The proof will be when someone reviews it properly.
 HobbyKing_Admin 8874 points
Haha *MoNSteR*, always looking for a fight.
 *MoNSteR* 841 points
Never!! Just the truth, and honesty. Haha Anthony_Hand, always removing comments that expose the truth about his products and business practices. Its well known and accepted that rebranding takes place in all markets for many products. However, boldly lying about it proves one thing.....YOUR A TERD , and a coward for not taking me up on my offer.
 HobbyKing_Admin 8874 points
Yeah, stick it to the man, fight for your rights, freedom of speech, ad nauseum...
"your a terd", Does your mother know you speak this way?

Rather than enter into juvenile wagers, I'm going to prove to you that we make these.
2 weeks from now I will post a photo in this very thread of me, holding a business card beside a girl soldering the PCB and then another beside the guy that flashes the MCU.

Once I do this, I expect you, sir, to post a photo of your face, beside an A4 sheet of paper with the words "Im Sorry".

 Jodde73 167 points
Accept that *MoNSteR*, or be the coward of the century.
 allat58 33 points
That's gold. Some people really have no place on the Internet. If you don't like a particular company go somewhere else. Only a guess but I bet old matie monster is never happy with anything he buys with his pocket money no mater what it is or who it's from. Come here bud I'll give you a hug. But no spooning after.
 HobbyKing_Admin 8874 points
I totally understand where *MoNSteR* is coming from and appreciate his request for THE TRUTH. Thats why I am willing to entertain these comments with replies and in this particular case, action. (I just wish he didnt name-call)
FYI, we have been making our own ESC in-house since late 2009. We sell alot to local stores, foamie factories and ebay vendors. Similar circuit designs and layouts make it impossible to know who made what sometimes, especially when engineers skip from company to company often taking their designs with them. Our last esc engineer worked for esky, towerpro and hobbywing all within the space of 14 months. He's now doing freelance and selling (possibly our designs) to anyone with money.
 *MoNSteR* 841 points
I never said you did not make these. I said that they would be the same as others on the market, as you imply they are somehow different. My argument still stands valid.
 Ronald007 406 points
at *MoNSteR*

blah blah blah you're right and I'm sorry Mr Hand blah blah blah
 gerlando 6 points
Hence the online name "Monster"!
 fakyrr 12 points
The question is, how does it compare to the bullet-proof "Plush"? :)
 BIGWHEELS 72 points
Another one here interested in how it stacks up to the "Plush" esc . . . . .
 rsuarezn 174 points
And another one !!
 HobbyKing_Admin 8874 points
Not as good as the plush, throttle curve isnt as linear, MCU code isnt as efficient and mosFET's not as high quality.
Plush is still king.
 Ronald007 406 points
The reverend has spoken. Amen.
 rsuarezn 174 points
And compared to the 40Amp Blueseries ??
 startazz 954 points
* Anthony Hand going off the subject of ESC's and so on,when will we see the mini Stuka as YOU said two weeks about a month or so ago now So any chance of another time frame thats if its still coming and i can't see why it wouldn't be,it's just i'm the impatient type if you hadn't guessed by now
 HobbyKing_Admin 8874 points
Stuka.. *sigh*. We keep updating the power system to make it fly better, lightening, stiffening etc. It's been delayed more than 4 times.
Scott is very fussy and won't let it go to market until it flies well enough.
He's actually out flying Rev5 right now. I hope it gets his stamp of approval today.
 Ronald007 406 points
*anthony hand
I'd rather you take the time and field a decent product than rush something to market long before it's ready.

Besides, isn't this thread about an ESC? what does it have to do with the stuka unless it's going to utilise an HK 40a ESC.
 startazz 954 points
* Anthony Hand, thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to let me/us know whats going on with the Stuka as it's very much appreciated and i'll wait another few months if need be just to get a better flying one at the end of the day. * ronald007 if you had read above what Anthony had wrote you would of know he was answering my question,to which i did say going off topic and as this is Anthony's business i do believe he has a right to answer questions if he so wishes I do apologise if this has upset you in any way and i shall try my best not to do so again.
 HobbyKing_Admin 8874 points
PS* Scott gave the Stuka a thumbs up today! So we should be good to go in around 2-3 wks
 startazz 954 points
Thanks again Anthony and thumbs up to Scott for giving it the i'll be watching the store like a hawk in the next few weeks
 Mar11 2113 points
Anthony, HK Owner ? Is that you ?
If so pleasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssee improve your customer service !!!!
 startazz 954 points
Yes it is him But where is the stuka Anthony you said we should get it in around 2-3 weeks, even if you had said 2-3 months it would still be late so WHEN WILL WE SEE it mate?
 Mar11 2113 points
I really wish I owned a company like hobbyking and keep all the products for me play with every single plane, car, and boat I've got All the best Anthony !!

Good esc, for great price.

This speed controller is a bit larger and heavier than other 40A ESC that I got (Turnigy Plush/Sentry, Mystery...)

Easy to program with circular Hobbyking ESC programning card ("jumper" style). Works well in combination with Turnigy D2836/8 outrunner and 3S 2200mAh lipo pack.

This esc is excellent and is comparable to 40A HK blueseries. But the size is a bit bigger but for me it is no problem. Hardly get warm. The SBEC also is 4A and more than enough to support my glider.
