Just one bad point: cockades are not the right ones. It's not the french cockade (whereas tail paint is)

can you pay your account by bank i dont haveplastic cards?regards frank
 Jeff-C 63 points
Yes. You can sign up to Paypal and register a bank account with them. Once you have done this you can pay directly in your own currency rather then in US dollar. Paypal makes the conversion for you and charges £* to your £* bank account rather then $ to you £* bank account. Added benefit is that HK do not charge an extra fee for using Paypal. Credit if the answer was useful. Enjoy. Thanks
 Jay 1 points
In fact it is easier to pay with paypal than plastic cards. plus they keep accounts of your spend.

Recommendation: buy different wheels. Stock wheels with metal holders weights 110 grams. This is 5 grams less than nano 1300mah battery (115gr). This is not wheels for plane. Scale look - yes, but looks like they are for some ground toy.

can i use a turnigy 3548 motor with this model ?
 nzMike 20 points
Not really. too heavy and far to much power for this. I use the 3548 in a hot P-51 Mustang and a 1400mm 3D balsa.

Is this motor enough power for this plane? Turnigy D2822/17 1100 kv http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_view
Item.asp?idProduct=18967
 Gary 2968 points
I think this motor will be a bit under powered,it only gives out a max power of 102 watts where it would be better with nearer 150 watts, take a look at the following suggestions or look for something similar*
Turnigy T2830-1000.
Turnigy D2830-11 1000.
Turnigy L2215-900.

what prop is best for this ?
 keyrul_MAS 131 points
what the prop size is depend on yor motor size and esc, n not forget LIPO. for first trial, u may use 28-22/26/30 or 28-36 any brand in HK shop, combine with prop 9x6 or 8x7 the ESC 30-40AMP,but not forget LIPO 3 or 4sel 1000mah and above

is this a good plane ? whats the best motor i shall put in it ?
does it fly good ?
 keyrul_MAS 131 points
28-30 turnigy for budget... but 28-36 for better thrust and 3d perform.

Hobbyking, will we have this plane in the European warehouse also?
 FlyRcFly 1744 points
Well good news. It is in the DE Warehouse NOW. It cost a bit more but I think worth it. SPAD XIII Balsa 865mm (ARF) (DE Warehouse).

Does it come with a prop? Could anyone recommend prop sizet for this plane with recommended motor?
 underthetire 409 points
No prop. Looks like a 10x3.8 slow flier prop, according to the other manual I got. Turnigy 28/30 950 would be an ideal motor.

God save Hobbyking :)
 Andi76 18 points
It looks cheaper as well, in the few places where it does differ. Cowl looks cheap thin plastic, pilot missing etc.
 sfactor1 942 points
i thought the extra 16g in shipping would make this more expensive than an electrifly
 underthetire 409 points
Found the pilot on evilbay for about 6 bucks shipped.
Andi76  18 points - 11/16/2011

It's not new to me that the chinese are master copiers. But this is the first time I can compare first hand (owning the original). It only differs in very minor details from the Electrifly version.
And it doesn't cease to astound me how they can get away with it.
 snappy 2290 points
perhaps it's made in the same factory?
 kyrre 301 points
That is probably the case more often than people may think. The hardware is completely different though, plastic horns instead of glassfiber, multiple wooden spacers instead of alu tubes and wooden motormount with 4 hole pattern instead of 3.
 snappy 2290 points
I'll save my $ 50 plus dollars and use the wooden mounts, thank you very much. by the way the wooden mounts give more flexibility to use different motors.
 kyrre 301 points
I just pointed out the differences between the hardware between this and the Electrifly version, I never said anything about the quality. And the motor is supposed to be frontmounted so the lenght doesnt matter.
 underthetire 409 points
Well having this plane, and the gp manual, I can attest to it being quite close, if not almost identical.
 sfactor1 942 points
none of these "great planes" are from the same factory

sorry don't like it the its cheap but i am more happy with the SE5a i brought
 lolzer 145 points
Really?
Thats nice.
Go fly your SE5A then.
 F100CUFFLINK 886 points
THEY both look great i think
 Canuck4ever 15 points
Unleaded - Is this the HK SE5a? I was thinking of getting one.

As for lolzer - isn't the expression supposed to be "Go fly a kite" *-)

Lon I am an avid HK fan and I think we are All entitled to give our view in this foram and express a personal opinion which i have i havenot critricised the product just expressed that i dont personally like the look of the aircraft so
 AndyL 53 points
I think it is the Great Planes Spad. I own one and aside from no pilot I see no difference. The size and covering are identical. The supplied plywood disk for the motor mount isn't original, but the 3 hole mount on the actual plane is. It's really a beautiful plane. Maybe they built too many and are unloading them. The wings are about a mm too thin for hxt900s. Flys great with a Turnigy outrunner and 1250 3s.

I love the drama when someone epresses a fact based comparison lol. I feel like i am reading womens home journel:). Ok facts , for the savings its not worth the effort for (USA customers only ) because as you know Tower offers free shipping deals thru the holidays from $25 purchases and up. So if you have a problem with the HK version like (broken parts) and you add the shipping to the states, the risk to benifit ratio is not worth it. I love Hobby King but I typically need 40% or more to hit the buy button because you have to add shipping, the fact that you have no real chance to return an item(lets be real ok ) we know this to be true and its ok but true.
So reality is its a great little plane but perhaps a better value to the international customers then the USA customers.
As far as factories, its very real that many are made in the same factory. Its all about MOQ(minium order quanity) if you can meet a factory MOQ , you can typically place an order. As far as copies lol , less then 3% pay any royalty for the use of original aircraft licensed rights, so coping one model that is released from one company to another is not a surprise at all , they are all in licensed infringment if the parent company were to enforce the name brand.

I bought the elecrafly camel from the US to AUS (Very nice model) And it came in a box with Made In China stamped on the side in huge letters. It may be from the same factory but with some different hardware.
 jean-claude 26 points
I just receive mine and this plane is just a super deal. some piece of wood are missing for the front cabane but , easy to make new one. i did not use the metric screw . Replace and taped every 3 mm with 4/40 screw . Well done again Hobby le King . Tomorrow the model should be ready to fly
 sfactor1 942 points
none of these "great planes" are from the same factory. lol such a life. there is more than 1 factory in china.

Good model, very nice in flying like real Spad XIII It's not for beginner, and request many our for assembly. The landing in grass runway it's difficult. One raccomandation: close and block the cover for servos, under the motor, i lost it in flying, magnets not enough. Bye Sugo (Italy)

Got it as a freebie so I paid shipping wich is still a lot of money. It's different - can be used as a look only model on tha shelf :D I am not into balsa. Wood should stay on the ground. Way too much repair time when something happens.

Quite a good kit, however missing four of the strut connectors used to connect the bottom and top wings. As usual, good luck getting the missing pieces sent out to you as you have to be able to photograph everything the moment you get it, which is not always possible when the manual differs somewhat from the HK plane. Recommend buyers carefully count the number of top and bottom struts upon opening the packet and contact customers support asap. Alternatively, if it's too late like in my situation invest in a GPMA3104 kit off eBay to make up for the missing parts. Unfortunately blights an otherwise good plane kit.
