whats the best esc to run with this??
Cariucho Hobby  11 points - 1/25/2013

Wait 4 weeks for this motor and got very disapointed, as i found out that it doesn't work with Hobby King 100 A Sensored ESC. Waist of time and money. I have tried all possible set up of the ESC, but keep on not workin, no signal of life. Thrown it in the Garbage !!!

dear C.H. What might have happened is that the speed controller in question might not be rated for 2 pole motors. I haven't recieved mine yet so I can't verify, but this might be a 2 pole design. Just a thought, will post pole count when the package arrives.

Hi, will this motor work with the - HobbyKing Brushless Car ESC 60A w/ Reverse, or what ESC must I use not to damage the motor or the ESC. Thanks
 Flyitall 914 points
A motor with a Kv this high is more than likely a 2 pole motor or a MAX 4 pole design. Look at the esc's rating for compatability with low pole count motors. Many esc's are rated for a minimum of 4 poles. Most car esc's can handle 2 pole unless otherwise stated. Good luck!

this motor run very hot only mounted in car. even whith weels off, even out of the car. is powered by sensored turnigy esc at 7.4 volts whith no timming and low punch. i cant test in track, due the risk of esc damage
 Dzmitry 2 points
Is it hot when unloaded? I mean without gearing? Try to put lower pinion tooth and check does your batt fine.
 gentec 4 points
yes, the motor whitout gear... no timing,no max rpm, etc,no load

does this motor need to de run on a sensored esc
 andrywp 21 points
yes of course... This motor only run on a sensored esc..
 Tomboo 9 points
It is designed to work with a sensor and get the best out of it. But you are also able to run the motor with.

could you use a 100a esc (turnigy trackstar) if the motor says max amps is 60a?
 Mav75 76 points
Yes. The esc does not output a constant of 100A, it can supply up to a constant of 100A. If the motor only wants 40A at a given throttle, then that's what the esc should supply.

The 60A max for the motor is more to do with having the specification of a 2s maximum battery to its given wattage. 445w / 7.2V = 61A.

porque ele nã*o tem fios? qual seria um bom esc para ele? google translate because it has no wires? what would be a good esc for it?
 mikeylama 52 points
I guess, the 100A sensored turnigy ESC would be good, or the 80A Scanner RC ESC will also should do the job.
 Mav75 76 points
I'm buying the sensored 60amp xcar esc to go with mine. Have to wait a few weeks until I get it to report back. Normally I wouldn't buy a motor this powerful, but I've got an itch to see what a stupidly high kv motor is like. :)
Scanner only seems to work with scanner motors too. *)
 grimmjow 1692 points
The 60A turnigy esc will do the job. high KV motor are used for 1/10 TC because we need very high top speed and so very high rpm ...

Easy to solder, solder took to the cups very easily. The actual colour of the motor is not black as the picture leads to believe, it's grey. Bench runs fine with the sensored 60A car esc in sensored mode.

It's build construction is excellent and very clean with access to both end bearings to add some scorpion oil when needed without having to open it up. Hand turning the shaft suggests a very strong magnet.

Drive it on the HPI Sprint 2 with HK 100A sensor, it is worth every cent. Cheap and strong, works well.

Excellent motor!!! Use it on my Tamiya F103GT 2wd. Esc was Turnigy Trackstar 60A, Lipo Turnigy 4000mah 2s hardcase, gear at 3.61. After 15min run everything is only slight warm to touch! The motor is so quiet when running, motor start smooth with minimal cogging in sensorless mode. Good construction and strong magnet. Thanks Hobbyking!!!

Put this in my DB01 4WD buggy and it is a seriously quick motor, maybe not as quick as the equivalent from one of the big brands but then it is also about a third of the price. My only complaint is that it has fixed timing but when you have this much power does it really matter? I would definitely recommend this to anybody who wants a cheap mod motor for racing, but only when your motor is in-board as the ventilation holes could pose a problem for rear mount motors in buggies such as TRF201 or B4.
