P-40N Giant Scale w/flaps & retracts 1700mm EPO Green (ARF)

P-40N Giant Scale w/flaps & retracts 1700mm EPO Green (ARF)
P-40N Giant Scale w/flaps & retracts 1700mm EPO Green (ARF)

The P-40 Warhawk saw action in many theatres in WW2, including the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Pacific where it was used as both a fighter and more successfully as a ground attack aircraft. Most famously, the P-40 was used by the Chinese Flying Tiger squadron flown by US pilots, the success of this squadron against the Japanese airforce in China, even against the feared Zero, made them household names around the world.

This P-40 Warhawk is simply huge for a foam model! Being EPO, it is as tough as you would expect but at the same time, the moulded detailing is simply amazing. Despite it's size, this Warhawk should be easy to transport with it's removable 1pc wing and removable tailplane. The plastic moulded part details, like the very scale exhaust stubs, 3 blade prop/spinner, bomb cradle, .50 Cal machine guns, cockpit detail just go on and on and make for a stunning scale model.

This version serve's as both a "crash kit" just in case and as a basic airframe for those wanting to use their own equipment. The electric twist and turn retract/gear door assembly's and tailwheel assembly are included, as is the gear door/retract sequencer. You also get the scale prop/spinner and a shaft adapter. This is a reasonably involved assembly for a foamie and it will be important to choose your power train and RC equipment carefully, done properly, the end result as an impressive looking and superb flying scale warbird.

Just in case, this scheme with all the markings did exist. It was the 15,000th P-40 delivered from factory. Here is the pic. target=_blank>P40N_15000th

can you get this airplane with just a plain green color. All this stickers on it look really stupid and adding paint over them would add weight. I don't recall seeing any p-40 in ww II with these markings?

No. But Bunnings hardware (in Oz) computer matched the colours for me in acrylic house paint. I masked out the shark mouth & Flying Tiger emblem and painted over camo style for very little weight increase. This paint covers very well. From memory only about 100gm of paint was needed.

target=_blank>Camo paint over Be careful when you mask out the jaws etc. Reduce the tack of the tape by pressing it onto your shirt first or it'll lift the original paint. Then peel it back on itself 180 degrees rather than a 90 degree upwards pull.

Thanks Baldy. Your plane looks fantastic.

How about a gas engine conversion? Would it be possible? What engine would be suitable? Thanks!

I would think that the foam would start melting.

I'm fairly new to the sport and the P40N is my 3rd project. I assembled the plane inspite of the magnificent instructions, but I'm not familiar with the wiring configuration. There is an extra lead coming out of a chip that I thought may be an on/off switch but I can't seem to make that work after plugging into the receiver. Also my motor will not work. Does that have some special arming procedure? Are the two related?

Hi Ty, Good question - I am experiencing the same issue and wondered if you have found a solution? Everything else works fine, except I have the same lead left unplugged, and can`t get the motor to work. It`s making a lot of beeping, and tiny pulses to the prop. Keen to know if anyone can help. Many thanks!!

Tiger, I kept experimenting and found out that the extra lead plugs into the receiver and the motor needs to be armed. As best I can remember I armed it using the same procedure as my FMS T-38. it took a couple of tries, but finally got it working. Trying going online to google Arming instructions for FMS T-38 Trojan. I think you reverse the throttle and set the trim to the lowest setting. Turn off the receiver, set the throtle to the highest setting, turn on the receiver, plug in the battery and wait until the esc arms itself. Unplug the battery, reverse the throttle and trim settings to normal. That should work, but still google to check my answer.

Hi guys Not sure if you are still interested but the motor / throttle extra wire you refer to plugs into the ESC? where the motor red/black wires go,, there is a socket there for it ....My plane works fine, all as it should. Cheers P51D

My mate has got this and i have been going over it with him. The Plane is good in most respects but the instructions are very poor being only a few dozen photos which dont help all that much. Requires planning before assemblery as most items need to be installed before glueing. Shame about the decals, they ruin it for me and also i could not find any replacement parts listed. Very good retract system which i would buy if they were available. Dont try to rush this one as it will take time to do proberly.

Arrived in Australia in good condition. Upon opening the box it was most impressive. Yes it is a pitty about all the stickers. It does take time to put together. I found the supplied glue next to useless and had to supply extra. After a number of hours I finally had it together, although was short on a couple of screws that I had to supply to complete. The model is impressive when finished. I still have to make minor adjustments to the main retracts as they are jamming. I have been a bit unlucky as the motor won't turn when the proppellor is attached. Also one of the servos decided to smoke so will have to be replaced. The port nav. light didn't work either. Am waiting for a reply from HobbyKing.

concern order 2005243480 Hi, I'm very desappointed with this model! 1°-The assembly instructions are very very poor...just some too little photos! It's a shame! How to install the servos? How to install the motor? How to install the flaps? How to install and move the landings door? The pilot is moving (not glueing) in the canopy. I really need responses. 2°-The sequencer for the landing gears is missing in the box. Yours sincerly,Pierre.
