Super Cub EP 1870mm Balsa/Ply (ARF) (USA Warehouse)
In effect, an "engined up" J3 Cub, the Super Cub was so popular that Piper were still building this aircraft right up until 1981, after which they sold the manufacturing rights, by which time they had sold 2,650 examples. The engine was uprated to 150hp, giving the Super Cub a top speed of 130mph, this extra power also made the Super Cub ideal for glider towing.
The Hobbyking Super Cub Cub with its unique colour scheme is more than just a looker, it is a high quality, scale model that boasts, working bungee under-carriage, a magnetic Pilots door for easy battery access, flaps and a 2pc easy removable wing for transport.
This model is no IC conversion, it is a large, purpose built, electric powered, high quality model that will give hours of flying pleasure and with the reccomended set up, excellent flight times, are guaranteed, even if your model becomes the flying club glider tug!
From the description "This model is no IC conversion, it is a large, purpose built, electric powered, high quality mode" The cowl does not look like you could fit a glow anyway..
What's with the J-3 cowling doing there on a Super Cub? What a dumb mistake. Other than that it looks pretty good, especially the flaps-nice! Athough some folks have had problems that are annoying, but not severe.
Could someone please provide the correct specifications for this plane? The Wing area is listed twice with units for wing loading:
"Wing area: 42.8g dm/2
Wing Area: 49g dm/2"
I have a Great Planes Rimfire .32 42-50-800 Outrunner Brushless motor that's currently in my wrecked Edge 540T. I can't decide wether this 800kv motor would be enough for this plane or not. It seems to have gobs of power, though. Any thoughts? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?...
More than enough. Am using a 35-48 900kv 12x6 prop on a 3s 4000mah. Only needs 1/3 throttle or less to stay in the air. Model is very light. It floats :)
your motor would be perfect for this plane. This plane is built around an electric platform so it is lighter than a model built for a nitro/gas engine. throw in a 4s lipo and you will not be short of power.
If you bought this plane which motor and ESC and servos did you use in your plane? Assuming you bought from HK, provide the item numbers for theses. T hanks
i think Nic must had it get under the fingernail and go in to the blood... cubz cubz cccccuuuuubbbbbzzzzz oh no its catching cubz..........................
To give scale, they really should get the Boss's hot girlfriend back to modelling the BIG planes so one can really appreciate the lovely bird. (I mean the plane, not the girl... Hmm OK then I really do mean plane AND the plane :)
Hi check out my cub with the eflight E25 supercub gear www.link

1 thumbs up!
Okay flight update guys, After about 10 plus flights i've gotten pretty much the hang of this plane however this plane like all cubs has some querks.
1. The hardest part of flying this plane is on take off. BE CAREFUL of crosswinds. Last flight I snapped off the motor mount because some crosswind flipped my plane on take off. A little epoxy solved that :)
2. Secondly this plane likes to be NOSE HEAVY. Manual says CG 75-82mm. I tried 77mm and it was a bit squirrly, almost lost the plane, AGAIN on take off. 75mm and a bit extra flies great. FAIR WARNING while building with a 4000mah battery in the tip of the nose, plane is STILL TAIL HEAVY. I had to add some nose weight.
3. Thirdly during build process my elevator slab and rudder were a bit warped. I had to sandwich the pieces with heavy books overnight to get them flat and straight. MAKE SURE ELEVATOR AND RUDDER are both flat and square before epoxying, or forever hold your peace :)
4. Lastly again the recommended motor size is MORE than enough for this plane. My setup
KD 36-10XL with a 12x6 wooden prop = 41Aamp 470watts 4lbs thrust
60AMP PLUSH TURNIGY ESC
4000mah 3S LIPO
Well happy flying guys!!

Great flying aircraft. Had to build a new landing gear cause the one it came with was built of really soft metal and would bend easily. Parkflyer plastics carries a spare cowl if the one you get comes cracked like mine. Overall you will not be dissapointed.

I received my Cub in just a few days and was almost perfect. I couldn't fine the window plastic, but I had some extra so no big deal. In HK defense, I may not have looked close enough. Everything fits perfectly and it went together with ease. I installed a Turnigy L4255 motor with a 70 amp esc I had laying around. I have limited the motor power to 60pcnt which makes it fly like a real Cub. I know, I have a lot of time in one. The Gear is the problem, the reason for just 4 stars. It bends easily and the bands that were supplied were WAY too weak so off to Walmart. When the gear starts to flex (with a hard landing) it ends up on it's belly. I made a travel limiter for them so now that one and only problem is solved. A mixing of down El when deploying the flaps is necessary. And of course mixing Rud with Al is a must. Gets lots of compliments at the field.

Great Looking Plane.
I geared it with
SK3 3548 1050kv
HK 60amp ESC
2x D-MG16 18.8gram servo - ailerons
2x MG930 26gram servo - elevator, rudder
2x HK 939 12gram servo - flaps
only mod I made was swapped out landing gear in favor of Eflight's 25e cub's landing gear.
I tested with 14x7 and it flew great. WOT is 56amps. Motor came down warm, but ESC was a bit over warm. So I decided to go 13x6.5. A bit less thrust, but still flew great. At 45amps, motor and ESC came down warm... PurrrrFECT!
4 stars on Quality for elevator warping and poor landing gear...other than that...Awesome plane!

Flipping Great Plane, Added Wing Lights and Head Light and it looks like a real plane when photographed. Using 2- 2S 5000 packs and a Turnigy 50 Amp with a 12x6 Master Air. Pulls 38 Amps on the ground. Added a Telemetry so I can see my Fuel tank. Also put my own landing gear on a tossed the one that comes with it, to flimsy.
