Hi all mine seems to overread by 3-4 degC is adjusting the Emisivity to .97 for eg a good idea to get correct readings ?
 Old Man 206 points
I,v got to ask the question, why did you buy this if you have something that is that good that it can tell this one is not accurate, or how can you tell it out 3-4c
 mordechaidiv 24 points
I needed a non contact thermometer. My accurate one is a contact thermometer. BTW I'm much older than you :)
 Old Man 206 points
perfect answer but i just had to know, Sorry about your age LOL
sondo214  31 points - 6/15/2011

What is the emissivity (can be adjusted from 0.1 to 1.0) When adjusted to 0.1 the readings are false! My hand appears to have about 70 oC! What is the correct value? Also at the manual specifications Tamb and Tobj are refered? What these terms mean? At what distance should I take the reading? It says 12:1. What does this mean?
 Barrocco 6 points

 Iannis 50 points
The laser don't works.
 PeteDee 198 points
Did you switch the laser on?
 Foxrecon 7 points
Tamb - Ambient Temperature Tobj - Object Temperature
 Foxrecon 7 points
Oh and the 12:1 means that, for example, when you measure an object from 12 cm away, the spot you measure is 1 cm in diameter. Like wise if you measure something 6 meters away the spot you are meausring is 0.5 m across. Hope it helped :)

Seems their sense of humour is starting to get funny eh? "or fuming club members when they find out how much you paid for yours!" Nice line!

Has bought. It is very happy. Quality good. Illumination, the laser index is a lot of functions,

Will be appealing if you could make this into a speed radar gun

Bill Tip #1 - Measuring Range : -60 to 550ยฐC (-76 to 1022ยฐF) Operating Range : 0 to 50ยฐC (32 to 122ยฐF)
This means DONT operate too close the VERY hot item under test! :)

Would be nice to have also the spec of the optics (ratio)
 MegaTesla 579 points
I agree. I've got more than one but only use the 12:1 gun. It is much easier to measure from a bit further, like motors inside a duct etc.
 drrk24 848 points
It should be a higher ratio - otherwise the laser spot makes no sense.
 sondo214 31 points
At wich distance should we take the readings with this gun?
 MegaTesla 579 points
It depends on the ratio. With a 12:1 distance to circle diameter ratio you can measure accurately up to a meter of two when targeting small objects.
 Sawdust 1632 points
Mine arrived today and the specs say 12:1 ratio. It seems to work well. Having too much fun playing star treck and zapping everything with the laser to test properly yet :)

i thought it was going to be Turnigy Laser Guided Gun
 Mr&MrsNifty 115 points
The Turnigy Deathray might me just around the corner... or so I'm hoping.
 Rcforme 210 points
Good one! Don't confuse the Laser Guided Thermometer with the Laser Guided Gun or your motor will get a nice round hole when you temp it. Lol!

Turnigy Lazer Guided or Turnigy LASER Guided?

I bought one of these at the local Canadian tire and it was a combo deal that came with a stud finder. It was under $20. Come on HK you guys are slipping!
 drrk24 848 points
DABOOGE:
Are you sure, it had the same measuring range ?
 Rabib 78 points
Sure you can find a cheaper generics laser thermometer, but I want to believe that since it is under Turnigy brand, the control quality should be more accurate..
 Mr&MrsNifty 115 points
I know people in the PURCHASING department of Canadian Tire, THAT combo deal that DABOOGE is talking about is now where NEAR this one's range. The CT one is NOT designed to reflect as much accuracy either. Lets not try to light nitro engines with BBQ lighters either hmmm?
 HobbyKing_Admin 8873 points
This is from Taiwan, not China.
 DABOOGE 1 points
I can tell you the CT one is very accurate. I do plastic thermoforming and I use it all the time. I get consistent results
 roboforcerX2000 175 points
Speed gun would be nice too:)
 Ujjwaana 167 points
I suggested HK in its Customer Live Community long time back to have them, as they were selling at similar ($20 ) prices. Glad they did it at the end.
 Mr&MrsNifty 115 points
See DABOOGE, either you got a sample sale or a really good sale in your region, the Black and Decker 57-4566-6 unit is at 99.99 listed on CT's site and the MasterCraft unit 57-4554-4 (with an 8:1 spotting ratio) is also listed at 99.99 and the price is usually higher in-store. The intent of its usage would be to measure engine and motor temps, I can tell you with my experience in tuning nitro 2 strokes, something like this would be perfect for use rather than even my trusty Duratrax push button fob-like unit (oh those angry props, aye).
 HobbyKing_Admin 8873 points
Search our site for: TN105i2 we have 2 other temp guns that are far cheaper.
 DABOOGE 1 points
CT has them on sale now. The price is more than what I paid though. They don't mention the range. part# 199-2031-2 comes with a stud finder too. Sale is $29.99 better than waiting 2 months for HK to deliver!
 Sawdust 1632 points
DABOOGE: Ordered mine on 21st may and arrived on the 27th. 6 days all up, that's pretty bloody good as far as I'm concerned and the quality looks excelent.

1 thumbs up!
Awesome product! Was a bit sceptical also with the price and asked the girlfriend "how much would you expect to pay" when I received it. She replied $150 . Not sure about that but for the price is fantastic value and a must have item when the little ones dont read high enough. ( I use this to measure the temp of hot melt glue in an edgebanding machine, 200c ) Instructions are good and thorough (and simple to follow), now if I could just stop pointing the laser at things reading the temperature of them just for the heck of it........

This is great, a real quality tool. Packaging is good, could be a bit smaller though. It is fairly accurate, fast and easy to use. Just read through the short manual (!), put in the batteries and go. The laser pointer is an added bonus for kids and pets to chase along the floor.
