Hobbyking Mini J3 Cub (ARF) (Blue)
Hobbyking Mini J3 Cub (ARF) (Blue)

The Hobbyking Mini Cub is a stunning EPO (super tough foam, easily repaired) model of an aviation icon (J3 Cub), and is ideal for beginners and experienced pilots looking for something that can be easily transported, handles well, is strong and assembles quickly.

Among the included scale features are an engine, pre-wired LED navigation lights and Cub style under-carriage. Full 4 channel control means superb flying qualities are guaranteed and a steerable tailwheel offers good manners on the ground, an important consideration, especially for beginners wanting to learn on a scale taildragger. The battery hatch is accessed from the under side to get you back in the air quickly and if you use the reccomended set up, good flight times will add to the pleasure of owning and flying this model.

A full color instruction leaflet is included, as is a slowfly propeller to work with the recommended motor. You will require three 9gram servos, a 1700kv Hextronic 16g Brushless outrunner, a 10amp ESC, a 7.4v 2S1P battery and your own transmitter and receiver (Tx/Rx) to complete this model.

is the motor on this thing good enough? I want it to be quite capable of stunts and speed. Thanks
M  1 points - 2/13/2013

will this thing fly slow? all the videos show the thing hotlining. (why don't people ever slow DOWN? even with frigging gliders...sheesh.) i'm considering it for my first 4 channel plane. love the size and led's.
 Gary 2988 points
No reason why it should not fly slow, its the right type of model.I do agree with your sentiment on certain types of models being flown too fast,ok sometimes just to show what it can be capable of but all the time.

is this a good plane for an advanced guy
 leon 32 points
this is a beginner plane. I would get a bigger plane if I were an advanced guy.

Hi, I'm just about to try airplane flying. Do this item also available in RTF? I don't have any experience in airplanes, only coaxial 4 channel helicopter. Thanks.
 David 2 points
You will need some radio gear and motor/esc as this is a kit only. You could use the Orange TX/RX with 3 9g Turnigy servos and a Turnigy 10a ESC and motor plus a couple of lipos then you will be able to order all from Hobby King in one go. Your experience with the Heli will help as you have used a RC transmitter before but the best advice would be to seek out some help at a local club or if no club around find a local RC pilot who could give you some help and advice.

Sorry if this has been answered before... Can someone please advise how to swap servo direction on the J3 mini-cub, as the elevators and ailerons are reversed. I have the basic hobby king transmitter which I believe has to be connected to the computer to re=program. If soneone can send me a link to a "how to file" it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

doug good question. yes it has been asked but that does not matter. You have the question and we should be willing to helps. So do you have the cable to connect you Transmitter to your computer? If you go to ""PRODUCT ID: HK-T6A-M1 Hobby King 2.4Ghz 6Ch Tx & Rx V2 (Mode 1)"" you will see in the bottom / middle of listing colored tabs. Click on the FILES tab. In there you will find the program to use and a manual telling you how to use it. It is very easy to reverse a servo using that program. If you would not like that the you can buy SERVO REVERSER ""PRODUCT ID: SIG-REV Turnigy Servo Signal Reverser"" they cost $2 and they plug in between you servo and your receiver. I hope this helps

Hey would a 1000 mah battery. BE too heavy?? I hope not
 Nikers 192 points
No, It wont fit plus it would be too heavy, use a 2S Rhino 610 Mah. It is the best battery for this model.
 Kellyann 16225 points
Darryl if you have to buy it then YES but if you already have it well it will do. So that is how wide the range is. Just be very careful of the C of G please. I hope this helps
VirtualCowboy  20 points - 1/26/2012

It says stock usually arrives every 10-25 days above, but customer service said they do not have a delivery date within 3 months. Why do they give these away if it is backordered indefinately? The backorder ties up the rest of the order. This is not good business.
 Kellyann 16225 points
VirtualCowboy so you got it as a freebe?? When?
Sid Sidley  2 points - 10/5/2011

Hello, would you recommend this as a trainer. I have been looking at the tough trainer but am a little worried about some of the reviews. Cheers Sid
 Sid Sidley 2 points
Also I have a 25 amp ESC that I got from my BIL. will this work for the 16g motor required for this plane
 Nikers 192 points
No the 16g motor is not enough i fly it with Turnigy 2730 Brushless Motor 1700kv (Turnigy 2730 Brushless Motor 1300kv will work too if you want less weight ,and less power) you also need a spiner! the motor shaft is not enough to get out of the front piece. It flies good if you assembly it correct and also assign the CG right -Cheers
 Kellyann 16225 points
Sid Sidley you have some very good advice from Nikers. So which model to learn on. Well have you ever flown and will you have help?? There are a lot better starter if you are going to learn by your self but if you have some help this is not bad. I hope this helps.
Nikers  192 points - 9/2/2011

 Kellyann 16225 points

2 thumbs up!
Flew it yesterday, i have to say it is an amazing plane. But you have to use the turnigy 2730 1700kv motor if you want to fly good! I also used a 12A ESC and 3 HXT 900(awesome servos!).It handled pretty good with 18 mph winds! And also had 2 bad landing but still no scratch EPO is pretty strong as well. I recommend it even to a begginer as long as you buy a bigger motor. - Thanks hk!

1 thumbs up!
Very cool little plane! Great attention to detail and very easy to assemble! I had a 24g 1700kv outrunner and some 7g servos laying around so they all went in to this little plane! I power it with a 3s 25c 450mah pack or 3s 20c 500mah pack with APC 6X4 prop. Got multiple 15 min flights! My only major gripe is the lack of recommended control surface throws. Use very little rudder throw and elevator throw. As much aileron as you can. Also about 30pcnt expo on ailerons and 15pcnt on elevator....
