900MHz analogue video transmitters are only legal to operate in Australia to a maximum power rating of 3mW, unless it is of a digital modulation. !.2 is out altogether in Ozz However you can use 5.8 up to 2w or 2.4 up to 1 watt . So 5.8 is the go in Australia .
 kanga 1012 points
Just been doing some new research and it seems that even being able to use 5.8 or 2.4 for video is only due to a small loophole in the law , atm the interpretation is that we can use 2.4 and 5.8 for "Telementry" purposes only. The ACMA is drafting legislation as we speak to clarify "Telementry" use to exlude Video and software transmissions. Once that happens there will be no more FPV within Australia . Sad but the truth is the Govt does not want the general public flying FPV :(

What does the amount of mW do? It seems the more mW a system has the more expensive they are. Does it increase signal?
Trent  2 points - 5/19/2013

is this legal in Australia?
 Jake 5 points
I think it is legal but you can double check at rcg
 DarrenMc 71 points
No, its right in the middle of the mobile phone bands. If you do use it you will get tons of distortion anywhere near a gsm tower. I found out the hard way!
 Jake 5 points
What can I use in Australia
 DarrenMc 71 points
Practically nothing! Since we can't link here do a search on rcgroups for "aussie fpv thread" and you will find many helpful locals
 Jake 5 points
Thanks for the suggestion I will have a look at rcgroups

kanga, from what i've read on the acma web site it's still a grey area 5.8GHz is usable in australia for "telecommand" or "telemetry" which some people have interpreted as FPV video from an RC model... As far as i know though except for anecdotal reports i haven't seen any proof in writing that we can wave at the inspector when he turns up. I really want someone to prove me wrong though!
 kanga 1012 points
You are certainly Correct DarrenMc , its is very much open for interpretation the laws are full of holes and pitfalls, I think the trick is to keep it low power so as not to cause any trouble , or interference to any one .

What do the different Power levels indicate? And a lot of people prefer 200mV,what would happen if I got for 100mV or 800mV? Does the mV affect range or clarity or what?
 Ayberk 38 points
mW is the power level of the video transmitter. the higher the power the heavier, the bigger, and the hotter the TX will be. It does effect range but not by a lot. (I don't know the formula but as far as I remember 4 times the power will result in 2 times the range or so)
 Ayberk 38 points
Also the more powerful your TX is the higher chance there is of it interfering with your radio reciever. The best choice would be 200 mW because it has a low chance of interfering and is high enough for loads of fun.

I Can barely get 20 meters of range with this any ideas?

maybe you are in europe and you are close to a GSM cellphone station? 900MHz is what they use. Have you checked all possible channels offered by this equipment?

whats the range of this ?
 mark7 173 points
tested about 900m with stock antennas and some small interferences. Overall, very good for 200mW.
 Mar11 2113 points
what about the pic quality .. and all ?
 mark7 173 points
Overall picture quality is quite good, this is my first ever FPV combo but if you count the the price for single 520tvl camera it is half of the price of this combo, what more should we discuss? :)

what type of battery do you need for the rx?
 RadioRacerz 136 points
The Receiver requires a 3s lipo altough the required cable is not included. I would seriously consider if this is the right setup for you. Alot of people that have ordered this perticular product got a faulty item delivered and had to return for a refund, myself included. Also depends on if the frequency is legal to use in your country. I would seriously recommend the 5.8ghz set. Thats what i use here in the UK plus i've not heard of any that havent worked on arrival like the 900. Hope that help

wats the diff. btwn 200mW and 100mW systems?
 RadioRacerz 136 points
About 100mw lol. sorry couldnt resist. More mW can give you further range but can cause other interference the higher the mw. To be honest most people seam to be using the 5.8ghz. much more reliable. plus me and a friend ordered this one and neither of ours worked. For increased range made a new antenna instead of more mW. look at cloverleaf antennas. if that helps credit would be nice *)

so ur telling what tx and rx they are providing are not of good quality?
 RadioRacerz 136 points
Hi, I wouldnt say they are all bad quality. I'm sure there are some customers that have had no problems at all. In mine and my friends experience though we where not so lucky i guess. Remember, alot of products from Hobbyking are not made by them directly so i would imagine quality control is something hard to monitor. Plus alot of the time your order is shipped directly from the manufacturer i believe and never goes through Hobbykings hands, so to speak. *) You'll also find that their 5.8 system is the exact same that other sites will try and charge you more for! They are all made in the same factory unless otherwise stated with a perticular brand name. Best of luck peeps.
 Akshay 7 points
thanks..and what should you buy for viewing in a laptop? audio n video both thr rite? n color video?
 RadioRacerz 136 points
The most common device that people seem to be using, myself included is an easycap. If you search that famous auction site you should find a cheap one which is the same one shops will charge four times as much for. You can get high end HD recorders but they normally start at around £*150 hauppauge being one of them. With the hauppauge though you can also record your playstation or xbox footage as well though.
 Akshay 7 points
thanks..i will buy that..what about batteries for tx and rx? n color video rite?

hey guys, i am new in FPV and i wanted to know what to buy -900MHz or 5.8GHz and i want the one that give me the most amount of range and i don't want to buy 2.4 g because i TX running in that frequency....
 RadioRacerz 136 points
900MHz and 1.3GHz Less influenced by obstacles due to lower frequency much less “crowded” frequency Works with 2.4GHz RC transmitters - can interfere with GPS signal - hard to find antennas - not that many transmitters/recievers to choose from 5.8GHz Easy to find a wide variety of antennas Doesn’t interfere with GPS as much Works with 2.4GHz RC transmitters - Even more influenced by obstacles - More “crowded” frequency - not that many transmitters/recievers to choose from Also you

Hey guys, I'm new to RC and FPV, I ordered this kit, but now realize I need a battery, and the camera mount. I am installing this on a lotusRC t380. What battery is recommended? For the camera mount what servos should I order?
 RadioRacerz 136 points
The battery you will need for the Tx is a 3cell, i used 500mah. The Receiver needs a 12v power supply or make up a lead to use a 3cell lipo. positive polarity is in the centre of the socket (tx charging type socket, not sure of the correct name) The mount you can order on here or as most people seam to do, wrap the camera in soft foam with cable ties or rubber bands, especially on a car as it will reduce vibration. Hope that helps, if so credit me pls. *)

You say 3cell 500mah, but what discharge is safe? 20C 30C I don't know? Can you be more specific, or can anyone else help?
 Philipp 7 points
20C is fine, 15C would work as well as would anything higher, the transmitter and the camera don't draw a lot of amps, so a low C rating is fine.
 Travis 1 points
I got the battery, but I can't get it to pickup the signal on any channel... Am I supposed to change the switches on the tx itself?
 Philipp 7 points
Not getting signal on any channel is usually a bad sign, but yes try changing the switches on the tx as well. If you are in the US you should use channel 0 on the rx, and channel 1 on the tx. If you are not in the US I don't know which channels you should use. Also make sure that everything is plugged in properly, both antenas and all the wires etc. When you are flying make sure that all the antenas are pointing up for maximum signal strength.
RadioRacerz  136 points - 5/6/2012

I received my order today. For some reason i do not seem to have any picture? I plugged the receiver in as i saw on the video. It says channel 3 and the transmitter swithes are all in the downward position in which they came. When powering up the transmitter the fuzzy white noise stops as if it is receiving the signal, but as i say there is no picture (i have taken the cap off). I'm not sure which configurations i can try as there are no instructions so if you can please assist me and let me know how i can rectify this problem asap, i would greatly appreciate it.
 __DDM 8 points
By taking the cap off I hope you mean you put the antenna on, if not the output voltage cant escape from the Tx and it will overheat, Thumbs

does this work with 2.4 radio systems

The system is working fine. Yet I could not test the distance. Transmitters and cameras too. Vericiye cooler, I was extra.

Can anyone explain to me why my video has become black and white? It used to have pretty good color but it rather suddenly has no color at all.
 Philipp 7 points
Mine becomes black and white in low light, is that the case for you? When I return back to normal lighting it becomes color again.

It says 12Ch RX. I would be interested in the Channel Frequencys, does anybody actually know them? or is there any spec.? would be interesting if compatible to rangvideo 900MHz/1.3GHz systems their 12CH RX use following CHannel frequencys: 910,980,1010,1040,1080,1120,1160,1200,12
40,1280,1320,1360
MHz thanks in advance for your help!
 lobstermash 273 points
On tx, channel 1 is 910, channel 2 is 980, channel 3 is 1010 and channel 4 is 1040.

On rx, channel 0 is 910, channel 1 is 980, channel 2 is 1010 and channel 3 is 1040.

I believe that in the US, 910 is legal. If in Aus, don't use 910 (3g mobile (Optus)).

Received the parts today. Connecting it was easy, I just had to find a 12V power supply ( is center of the plug) to connect to the receiver. I tested it this evening, connected it to my TV. The picture is really perfect, though the camera needs a bit of light to achieve that. But this will most certainly not be any problem during flying in the daytime. Can't say anything yet about range, that will take some time (don't have a plane for this yet and the Fatshark Base Goggles have been ordered only yesterday, also from HK). Really great value for this price!

Watch for polarity as this transmitter as no reverse polarity protection, and will blow up as soon as you apply power incorrectly! Not sure how it really works...I blew up 2 of them :/
