DHC-2 Beaver 1353mm (ARF)

DHC-2 Beaver 1353mm (ARF)
DHC-2 Beaver 1353mm (ARF)

The DH Beaver is of course famous for its STOL capability, load capacity and general ruggedness and fans of the Beaver will be pleased to see this larger version of our popular 40" kit.

This nicely made ARF is a pleasure to build and features a removable wing, easy access magnetic battery hatch, large lightweight wheels, steerable tail wheel and so on. A choice of motor mounts come with the kit as does a very comprehnsive hardware kit. This model being a little bigger means of course it will cope with the wind just that little bit better but either size Beaver is perfect for those calm, relaxing days at the field.

Does HK sell a set of floats for this plane?
Doug  1 points - 2/4/2013

First flight today. With an 893kv motor & 1800mah 3cell it will cruise at half throttle nicely. Almost vertical at full from take-off. 4oz in the nose. Thanks Hobbyking for bringing in good planes like this at great prices.

I have a motor already and was wondering if it was big enought for this plane.. https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/u
h_viewItem.asp?idProduct=18227 also,
what prop would be best? Any help greatly appreciated

Any videos of this plane? i only saw one in youtube...
jonacrazyplane  52 points - 10/25/2012

and, i gonna put the apc .25 glow engine, do you think it is ok for this model?
 Gary 2962 points
Power wise it will be more than enough. As this model has been designed for electric you will need to modify it to accept a fuel tank and strengthen the firewall area for the extra vibration etc.

Hello. Interested in getting this plane. Pls, can someone tell me if the rudder is operated by pull-pull system?
Thank you.
 beppo 84 points
No it's not, but You can make it by Yourself if You want. It's not a big deal.
__RRAP  43 points - 6/12/2012

What ESC and prop would i use if im installing a G-25 710kv motor running 1 2200mAh 3cell 40c nanotech battery? Can I use a 40A turnigy Plush and a 12x6 prop?
 tan2x11 1 points
12x6 is more than enough ..i use same motor and 11x8 prop in my plane with 2200 and 45A ESC and it flies really well
__RRAP  43 points - 6/12/2012

Why no decals and stickers for this plane?
 Bacter 254 points
Hobby does sell sets of Decals and Sticker. This way you can pick your own. Or have none
Doug  1 points - 3/19/2012

Is the Turnigy G32 too much for this thing? Of course it will be getting bigger tires. Do the aileron servo's mount in the center or out on each wing? Need to know if "Y" cable is required.
 snappy 2290 points
Yea Doug thats a big motor for this plane
 Bacter 254 points
Well the G32 is a 42mm motor. I think you would be better off with G25 which is a 35mm motor. Even this is a big motor for this plane since it rec a 28mm to a 35mm. I do not recommend the G32 it would be far too big.

Does it have a battery hatch?
 Shounan 5 points
The battery hatch is below the body.
It is before a wheel.
It is the 4th photograph.
 Kellyann 16221 points
ThatGuy mm with out preaching Yes fourth Picture. It is held in place with rear earth magnets. I hope this helps.
 chops3 204 points
Hi kellyann/ Allison O that's right you go by the name NewToHobbyKing now so when you get banned again what will be your new name?. Mr. KalyanProdhan from West Bengal India Plus you have accounts in the name of Sharron, Allison, Sally, Chris, DelSt and others.

The plane looks unfinished above the windshield area and the plastic windshield/ canopy looks flimsy. Can any one who has the plane comment??
 export! 13 points
The light ply along the top of the windshield is not covered. The windshield itself is not flimsy in my opinion - much the same as many ARFs you'd get. The real problem with mine was the H-stab was not square 90deg to the fuse box and wing. It was out too far to be able to simply twist the fuse and reshrink the covering. I think I would have to remove all the covering to get to the problem and fix it.
 export! 13 points
I guess a better way to describe it is the H stab is not parallel with the top of the fuse box and the main wing. Out quite a bit, prob close to 5deg.
 viflyer 91 points
That's a very frustrating PROBLEM. Shouldn't leave the factory like that, OR shouldn't have gotten to the point of covering in production!!
Doesn't surprise me though, these things are being made in small operations all over China. Like a cottage industry!
Ek-trician  307 points - 9/2/2011

I don't understand the effort to make a nice STOL and the wingspan is too short, and NO FLAPS! I won't even talk about the fat bush plane tires-NOT! So all they have done is make a Cub that looks kinda-like a Beaver. Try harder folks!
 beezlebub 226 points
i plan to make flaps, and add some BIG pneumatic tires. (probably 4" diameter and 1" thick. gonna do some fpv bush flying =)
 Ek-trician 307 points
You can add flaps, but it's a job! Rear spar helps. Of you design it right you don't have to recover the wing, but you will have to build flaps from remainder of ribs and trailing edge. You should make them fowler flaps like most STOLs have to reduce high attitude stalls. They have some nice hinges here that work perfect. You get a nice gap and extension with them. FRP may be a bit heavy for this plane. It comes out at 1470g without flaps.
snappy  2290 points - 8/8/2011

Cool, I really like beavers.
 titip 55 points
hey Robachan
REAL modelism and building is wood. foamy is just somthing for laisy people who don't like making something with there hands... we call that "fish crate"
OK, it's quick made, ready to use and ready to go to garbidge when destroyed. go back 20 years earlier and you will see what was done before. if you have the opportuity to create something then you will understand what i mean.
however, this plane looks very nice and thanks HK to sale it!
 Megafreek 5 points
This one has got my vote, looks good think i will order myself this one. Thanks HK.
 oldfish 29 points
It would be Great if it had Flaps
 kekelala 307 points
yeah, if I'm not wrong, beavers should have flaps!!!
 kekelala 307 points
The windshield looks funny. I like the clear windows. Could this be epoxied for glow powered? You think? There are no reviews yet.
 andy 4 points
kekelala, why would u want to ruin a good plane with a petrol motor ... tee hee
 kekelala 307 points
I am tired of electrics. I would use a .25 glow engine instead of petrol. M petrol engine is 15cc. That is equivalent to .91 for a glow engine ** too heavy for this bird. Haha!
 Jonathan 3 points
Fitted floats today, she's looking good. A bit on the heavy side! Hopefully I'll have it in the air by next week.. I'm using the sea plant floats, Hobby King sells the .40 but I orded the .25 from China. Beaver is going together nicely. Frame is a little twisted!! Small wing area for the size.
 export! 13 points
I ordered one because I love Beavers but I might have to hack that rudder into something resembling scale. Truly poor effort there.
 Trent 1 points
what size turnigy motor and prop would best suit this beaver?I would rather have it on the slightly overpowered side.
Thanks
 wing in ground 27 points
Hi titip
What modelling are you doing here - apart from dropping in your electronics?
It is an ARF in my book it doesn´*t really matter if it´*s wood or foam - there isn´*t much modelling involved either way.
 export! 13 points
Trent, I like things on the slightly more overpowered side. I plan on adding floats to the plane soon. I went with this motor* NTM Prop Drive Series 35-30A 1400kv / 560w It flys the plane very nicely on 3S with a MAS 10x4
 Trent 1 points
Export, thanks for your reply. That gives me something to go on.I won't be adding the floats to this one just better quallity and slightly bigger wheels. Thanks alot.
 export! 13 points
Got it flying on floats. If you search bLniEp5H4NQ at youtube you should find some low quality vid of where I am with it. Looks very nice in the air with the floats.
 snappy 2290 points
looks great . Where is take 1?
 jeffrey 662 points
Does any body know what diameter wheels it has on it,they look small. Thanks for any help.
 export! 13 points
The wheels that come with it are a joke. I put some 65mm on it and they looked tuff/good.
 jeffrey 662 points
Hey Thanks for help.I ordered some 3 inch big daddys (maybe too big we will see). My will be here tommorow, hope it is in good shape. Did it come with any control rods,it does not show any in the pictures?
 MichelD 45 points
I guy's! Just received my Beaver a week ago. It took me a full week to have it assembly. The manual is not very explicative and You will need to take attention of You will do with this one. Very toutchy to built. You will have to reinforce some parts because this airplane is very fragile constructed and will need soft landings for shore. I will let You known after the first flight. Some photos included. MD 9any questions feel free to ask. I'm in building RC airplanes since almost 20 years.........and I do have to tell You that this one gave me a lot of what I can say....a lot of thinking....before doing a move in the assembly process. Michel, why dont you go on the forum and post a mini build blog?
 MichelD 45 points
Hi Snappy! Thanks for your response. I'm not a crack about forums or post.but I will try my best to do it. My next airplane to complete is the TigerM-Y-PNP. I will start to built it this week and I'll be back with some words or explainations. Stay tune.............Lolllllllll And I will also let You known guy's about the first flight of the Beaver........Lolllllll PS Here is a photo of my last piece.it is a toy that I did a lot of changes. I did remove the stuff already in this plane (it had no elevator and no ruder) for flying (so almost immpossible to fly) so I did had micro servos for rudder and elevator and put a small weel at the back for controlling on the runway. Let You known if it went well............Lolllllllllltarget=_blank>
 MichelD 45 points
This plane is not already done but just a few things to do and it will be completed. Photos to came and flight description will also be availables.........Ciao
 kekelala 307 points
Thanks for the pics, Michel. It's beautiful. Any pics of the interior cabin? Mind if I ask? I was thinking of converting it to glow powered. Thanks in advance.
 MichelD 45 points
Hi kekelala! May be I did forgot to tell that I do have the windshield to install and I'm thinking to make it transparent bleue or greene. Did not diceded yet. But I will let You see the completed airplane with finals pictures. You can in fact converted to glow gas. probably a .15 to .20 will be fine...but as I said.......this plane is fragile and You will have to reinforce some parts. Mine has a 32-30 brushless motor and will require a 3 cell lipo 1550mha. Let You known when I will fly it. Ciaoooooo By the way...plenty of room inside the cocpit for all servos and a fuel tank. Ciaaaaaa. I did not customize the interior yet and also no pilot figure yet...........but it will come......Lolllll MD
 kekelala 307 points
Thanks mate! Hope you will have good news of your new plane!
 snappy 2290 points
Michel Only the few guys who have posted here on this topic in this section, will see your hard work.
 MichelD 45 points
Hi again Snappy. I will try to go to the forum but I do not known yet how to get there. But I'll search on how to do it. I will be please to tell what I did for constructing this airplane and also mention all the fuzzy traps...............Lollllllll I will finish the canopy and show you the result. Ciaoooo (I will also begin to construct the Tiger Moth. To follow...........Lollllllllll MD Now I do work on a B-29 (ENOLA GAY version)4 small engines, rudder/elevator but no ailerons, let you see the final results soon. Ciaoooooo

 snappy 2290 points
I'll give you a hint I'm from a country where Michael D is president
 jeffrey 662 points

Today I received my DHC-2 Beaver, very light box
I opened it and,
A large plane, the entire manual, wing and fuselage Monokote well structured and good color, perfect cone.
All parts complete

Consider putting epoxy in the structure, this is a plane for intermediate pilots

Wings a little shorter for better maneuverability
I have 20 years flying and conclusion is a good job of plane

(wrote to H.K for better packaging)

Then I will give information on propulsion and flight

Thanks Hobby King

I received my new Beaver the other day. Everything was 100pcnt okay in the package. It has a very nice finish and looks alot more expensive than HK charge us for it.
If you plan to use 9g servos for this plane, you need to make your own adaptors. Since it's made for 32mm body length servos with 4 screws. I will use the TGY-S3317 servos in my Beaver since they fit just right in.
Have that in mind when you order it.
I have not maiden it yet, and since I'm a beginner on aeroplanes I have some other planes I will try to fly before this one.
Happy flying!

I guy's! Just received this Beaver! All pieces in box and no dammages to these pieces. Construction manual included...............BUT......You will have to have some experiences for building this airplane. Manual not to good for new flyers. I do have 25 years in building airplanes but I do have to say that this one is special. Be aware of what You will do because You can be easily confuse. I'm almost at 50pcnt complete and I do have to use all my knownlege to complete the rear-end. I will let You known when completed. MD
