L-39 Albatros EPO 90mm Jet ARF
L-39 Albatros EPO 90mm Jet ARF

The L-39 Albatros was developed in the Czech Republic as a light attack and trainer aircraft. It is believed that approximately 2800 of the L-39 Albatros air craft are still in service today.

Featuring a large 90mm EDF unit and powerful 3660-1600kv vented Brushless inrunner this large scale EPO jet will sound as good as it looks. The 6 blade EDF unit comes with the motor pre-installed for easy setup. 5 x pre-installed 8g 1.8kg torque servos handled the control surfaces and steerable nose wheel. The fixed landing gears also include working suspension and adds to the scale look and feel of the L-39. All that is required to complete the model is a 22.2v 4400mah 6s Lipo and your own transmitter and receiver (Tx/Rx). Finished in an authentic Czech Republic Air Force color scheme the L-39 Albatros will make an impressive addition to your fighter squadren.

What are the best retracts for this please? Metal not plastic! Cheers
steve  27 points - 4/27/2013

maiden mine some day ago, i was impress about how it fly and how it is stable. 2 only bad thing, landing gear and canopy are "****". i ordered the metal retract sugested here. not received yet. you can see my first flight in this video. powered on 6s (2x5000mah nanotech 65c) one completely in the nose to have the write cg, and a 12 blades alloy edf.

Hi guyz, would like to buy this one for my father to christmas, just have to ask if it can take off and land to grass? Thanks!
 Ben 31 points
this is actually the topgun kit , if you get on youtube you will be able to find a few videos of non sealed flights. I fly off a synthetic runway which creates a bit of drag for some planes ( the A320 can not get enough speed to get in the air with a 70 meter run). I find that with the l-39 its not an issue, it leaps into the air. That said I have an upgraded fan.
 mike.t.ward 78 points
We have a mowed grass strip at our field and a guy there has one of these and it has no problem taking off and landing.
vhaly  3 points - 11/21/2012

I would like to purchase one of these jets. My only question what is the pay load for flight. I would like to strap a black rubber cock (3lbs) onto this jet. I was wondering if this jet would still be able to take off or maintain flight? Any input would be good input as I am new to this.
 chris 29 points
find out the weight on the item you wish for the plane to carry. depending on the size of the item, your plane should be able to fly with minimum loss of performance. cheers

vhaly, this sounds interesting but i suspect you might be up to something of a mischievousness nature here. but good luck anyway. Cheers

I have around 1 hour of successful flight experience of a 64mm edf (maybe 15 flights not including the accidents at the beginning).... would anybody disagree to attempt piloting this edf
 KaosKane 1429 points
the larger wingspan is eaiser to fly than the smaller jets u fly now the harder bit is the setup this plane is up in the 60A bracket any bad soldering or connections will cause much heat and compnent failure so much extra care on setup and u will be All Good ps there is a vid of this jet on the tube under the "worlds fastest foamy" title have fun
 sfactor1 944 points
in-flight this is probably easier to fly than a 64mm as bigger planes r more stable etc. but a bigger plane will require more room to land and take off. do u hand launch the 64mm? it would be really challenging to hand launch this. i bet most people cannot hand launch this.
 sonicnz 14 points
your right its much easier to fly than my 64mm edfs, I'm normally able to land and take off with the 64mm edfs on the cricket wicket, but the wicket is over grown now and I only got to try the 90mm edf once at an old airport. I just had to try hand launching it.... see the video in the videos section.

hk,when L.39 at fiberglass for 90 edf?
 Kellyann 16223 points
Claudio that is a great question but I do not think it will get to Hobby King. You need to understand Hobby King it has many parts. I have found the forums are a great place to get advice. The Q ans A in the listing is a great way to get a quick answer from your fellow Hobbyist. But if you have some thing you really want answered go to contacts and make a ticket. Hobby King work hard to keep this area updated and maned (womened). I hope this helps but more so I hope you have a Happy New Year.

Oh I'm presuming that 1 ot the 2 servos that drive the independant elevators will need to be re-wired (reverse) as they are mounted facing the opposite direction to each other so will work opposite to each other. Or it will need a servo reverser for one of them.
 hasan 54 points
Not necessarily. you can use a y harness for two servos and have the work in parallel.. just before mounting test and put in a way where arms move identically
 Kellyann 16223 points
Dix Fix I am not sure what you are asking SORRY It is me not you. But have a look a the videos. It look great. Also There are many way to setup your servo and with out know your ranking (I would hate to tell an expert what to do) and what RC gear you have it is very hard to comment. You know the old saying ""Even the foul (ME not you) seem smart if he holds his peace"". I would love to talk further. I hope I have helped.

Whats the go with NO RUDDER?? My L-39 has the rudder fixed with no servo for the tail at all.
The rudder servo connection is for the front wheel steering. WTF!! So I figure to mount a servo into the tail itself & cut the rudder free & hinge it. I will run a 'Y' cable for the 2 servos (steering / rudder).
 Kellyann 16223 points
Dix Fix This is us Jet fliers fault. Well this is never going to be a 3d craft. Your idea is very good and I have used it on some of my large trainers. Putting a small servo on the tail section just for the rubber. I does not get used much so it can be a smaller servo. So if I could have I would given you a reward for that idea. I will try to ask some question so you can answer. I owe you. You have helped.

What is the weight of this plane? What good EDF you can recommend to setup at this site?
 mike.t.ward 78 points
Plane weghs 5600g as for the edf the jet comes with a good one just be sure to balence it. If you want to change the edf i recomend getting it first then upgrading it will give you a better idea of what you need.
 Straight Up 742 points
5600g is the shipping weight!!! A 5600g plane with a 90mm EDF would be a sorry sight indeed. Typical RTF weight is around 3000g according to the reviews I've read.

i have one of these on the way my parents ordered this for me to arrive on my b day hovever it still hasent arrived however that is not my question this is my first edf jet so i expect it to go fast so i was just wondering about what would be good expos and dual rates for this plane? keeping in mind i an a proficant heli pilot and i am pretty good with planes
 F100CUFFLINK 886 points
not sure with the expo but i would go with the low rates first, not every one likes EXPO i dont! but if you never have used expo i would get use to it cause it can be great and it can also be a bit harder to get use to. And lotes of times jets need the expo for the speed and landing .IF this is your first as you say i would try a cheaper jet just to get use to cause they dont fly like propjets or airplanes, there is no air flow under the wing hardly when flying slow.
this is a great kit as far as looks but i heard there are no instructions that come with it ,but try the files tab and check. I REALLY DONT RECOMMENT THIS FOR A FIRST TIME (jet pilot)

Set the dual rates to 100% and 75% and expo of around 30% on both. This will give you option both ways once you are up there.

hello i have a very valid quetion in the photos the plane has a retractible undercarage but it is not linked what do you need to make it operational as i am thinking of getting it and it would look alot better with retractible landing gear
 H-KING_SCOTT 5160 points
Have a look in the wheels/undercarriage ection, we have a few choices that would fit this jet.

The FLY FLY type (air or electric) will drop right in without modification. I had many problems with the electric ones so recommend air type.HK also sells clones of the flyfly air style which will fit BUT they need work to make them lock down properly. The slot must be ground 1mm towards the air cylinder, them the air cylinder spaced out with a thick washer to have proper lock travel.Buy 2 sets of mains and convert one to nose gear using the parts provided in your kit (flyfly parts).
 pejay 548 points
I think Jason5001 misunderstand the question from Michael. I also see on the pictures that the landing gears are retractable but they don't have any rod coming out to be linked to a servo so I guess you might not be able to convert the supplied ones to retracts. Still is it very strange to supply the plane with "half made retracts". And Jason, how can we take a look at the gear section to find fitting retracts when we don't even know the size? Perhaps you can tell us about this so we can order these retracts at the same time as the plane
 4stripes 116 points
Hobby topgun and fly fly models all come with these 'half made' gear mounts. They are still usefull as fixed gear and are easy to switch out if you want retracts. Flyfly air retracts are cheap and fit perfectly.
 Dix_Fix 27 points
HobbyKing's sells the retracts sets that the manufacturer supplied the mounting bases for PRODUCT ID: HKS-1106 Under $40 It cant hurt to have a spare set of the retract mounting bases

grazie!!adesso ho letto e comprato il resto del kit! spero solo ke adesso l'aereo riuscira' a volare!mica servira' altro??se ho problemi x il montaggio dell'aereo a chi posso rivolgermi?? grazie
 Salado90 13 points
Paolo

Just got mine today in the mail! Nice model and great value. One note of caution, Take the fan off and reassemble the motor/fan assembly. I found the spinner screw loose and the fan mounting nut loose as well. The set screws holding the 5mm shaft adapter were loose as well! An accident waiting to happen. I removed the two screws holding the motor on and replaced them with some that had a larger head to spread the load onto the plastic (using locktite). I also wrapped the motor with tape until it fit snug into the shroud to make it more secure. With only two mounting screws you must make every effort to stop the motor from moving or the plastic will crack and destroy the entire fan. I tested the balance and the fan was fine.

Mine arrived today. WOW! What a great edf jet. Looks great, retracts work well. It is bigger than I thought it would be. Some loose screws in the edf unit but a little locktite fixed this. Can't wait to fly it. Just waiting for the weather to improve on my days off work.

Maidened the big bird today... Running a Lander 90mm EDF and 3675Kv motor with HobbyWing 100A-ESC...Its a big pussycat on 6S happily & scale-fully leaping into the sky at the end of a 50 meter run... Its no speed demon on 6S with no nasty habbits or tendencies so am going to try 7S ... In stock set-up I have had to add 175g of lead into the nose-cone running a 640gm Nano-Tech 6s 4000MaH Li-Po or Turnigy 6S 3000Mah...
If connected in series I can run both 4S & 3S @ 4000Mah at around 900 gm which means my 175gm in nose will need to be halved to 80 to 90gm and added to tail for rough CoG ( better nose heavy than tail is the rule ) ...
Im really happy this ship performs so nicely, I put a bit of work into it so was quite anxious...Now all I can think about is maybe getting a Wemotec 90mm running 8s and this thing will HONKY-TONK !

( still stand by my last post of buying the ARF and starting from scratch )
