hi i got a 18amp 1/18 hobbyking esc. i also got the program card. for 3 or 2s lipo it has 2 cut off voltage steps step 1 has cut off voltage step 2it has auto-lipo cut off volts/cell how should i ajust it. thanks guy.................................................
............................................
 meeki 293 points
Always have cutoff enabled when using lipo's and set cutoff voltage to 3 or more volts per cell.
 Mark 1 points
So what is your question
Niclas  17 points - 5/11/2013

Can anyone make this clear to me. Here at the website it says: Cont. Current: 18A Burst Current: 25A. And I got this esc for just a day ago and in the manual it says: Cont. Current: 25A Burst Current: 90A. Could anyone tell me what is the right spec? Its really confusing..
 leo-rcc 25 points
It will probably be more than Hobbyking says and less than the manual says. HK is normally pretty conservative with its estimates so there is less chance of people picking an ESC that is on the edge of its performance all the time and therefore less blowing up.
KR2_Diving  14 points - 5/1/2013

I find that if I am sitting in neutral, the ESC beeps every 20secs. Is this normal? I am running this ESC through arduino so I have tricked the ESC. I have confirmed that the values I am sending are accepted as the motor functions as expected (full forward and full reverse at 100% speed possible!) Is the 20sec beep at neutral normal? Can it be turned off?
 meeki 293 points
Mine does it as well, I have the program card and it's not possible to disable it with that.
The-Wizard  1 points - 3/29/2013

Does anyone have the instruction letter for this esc, that could scan and upload it to the files section?
 KR2_Diving 14 points
I have scanned and uploaded the instruction manual today. Just waiting for approval.

can i use it in my traxass rally 1\16 scale thanks...............................
 Niclas 17 points
No, you better get a 35 or 45smp esc insted. Good luck!
 Mark 1 points
No it won't work
Maria  2 points - 3/24/2013

it is a 4800kv motor losi
 meeki 293 points
For onroad use "with that battery" you will get away with using a 45Amp ESC but I would get a 60Amp ESC, this would surly cover you if you use it in an off road buggy or upgrade the motor and battery later. Your battery will be a bit of a problem. The performance of your car will suffer, you will never get the most out of that motor with that battery, run times will also be short.
Maria  2 points - 3/21/2013

tunigy trackstar 18amps 1\18 scale can i run it in my tt01e 1/10 scale 2000miliamps 7.2 volts of power thank you.............................
 meeki 293 points
No... what motor do you have? is it brushless?
Maria  2 points - 3/21/2013

can i run in my tt01e 7.2 volts 18amps 1\10 instead of1\18 thank you oh one more thing 2000milamps
 Niclas 17 points
I dont know your motor size, but probably standard 540 (3650). So no, this esc wont work, get a 60amp insted, atleast a 45amp.

looks like the toro esc

my card dont do,,,, what you setup on the card ?
 necromaster 189 points
Runerally, from the 110BS-Truck description, it require minimum of 25A ESC. This one have not enough juice for it.

Can i use this Esc for my 1/16 Extreme Edition ? If not, what ESC is recommended
 Helimike1976 72 points
good question, been wondering about putting it in my monster beetle 1/16. tryed the 35a x-car esc from here and its too much for it right now. have this one sitting in wait for action.
 niku13 8 points
it should be fine if you are using the same Motor and Lipo's. Those ESC's are surprisingly good, get the tuning card www.link
ddosoff  234 points - 6/7/2012

After programming, this regulator was blinking orange LED and no longer respond to the control panel. The manual says that I need to go back to the default settings, but does not describe how to do it. How to reset the controller to default settings?
 niku13 8 points
Does it want you to pull the battery from the ESC? Or reset it via the programming card? I believe this has no reset button on it so that is the only way to do it.
Keon-Seok  1 points - 6/7/2012

How to enter programming mode?.......TT The manual is so difficult...easly Please
 Roman123 2 points
Plug battary into the trackstar
hold full throttle on your transmitter
turn the ESC switch ON
continue to hold full throttle 10-12 seconds
let trigger go neutral (center)
ESC now in programming mode.
 Max 59 points
Hold full throttle for 10 seconds then let got. If you need more help, look at one of the manuals of a Castle ESC it works the same

Can i use this esc in a plane for reverse the prop´*s ?
 indo1144 76 points
Can't you just switch any two of the three wites going from the motor to your ESC? That will effectivy reverse your motor! :-)
 esgrijo 10 points
Just for brake the plane after it has landed
 Helimike1976 72 points
just get a variable pitch prop system, this esc waits for about 2 secs befor going into reverse, but from reverse to forward it go right away, and you don't get as much power in reverse as forward.
 jam177 3 points
You can program it to change this
 KR2_Diving 14 points
Esgrijo, Yes. There are three modes to this ESC. By default, the ESC will allow reverse after detecting 2 secs of neutral throttle. Another mode allows for instant reverse, once 0 RPM is detected by the ESC. I use this mode for ROV thrusters, which need to run forward and reverse many times during a run.
Mike5334  6 points - 5/17/2012

Does this ESC have reverse? Is it an instant reverse or does it require moving the stick to neutral for a few seconds to activate the reverse?
 Max 59 points
This ESC has reverse. There are 2 options: Reverse Lockout:Allows use of reverse only after 2 seconds of neutral Forward/Brake/Reverse:Reverse or forwared is accessible at any time after ESC brakes to zero motor RPM hope this helps
 martiman 174 points
Why would you want instant reverse on a car or truck? It would wreck your diff gears at the very least.
 Mark 398 points
Makes you stop faster.

I have a Reedy 9500kv motor, I know that some ESC will not handle this high of kv motor. Will the 18th scale Turnigy TrackStar handle this type of motor?
 Max 59 points
assuming that is a 2 pole motor (99pcnt chance it is) it will work for sure. This esc is the same as the toro 25a esc. The toro 25a supports 6100kv 4 pole motor, which is the same (for the esc) as a 12200 kv 2 pole motor! hope this helps
 Max 59 points
It works with my 8000kv motor on 2s lipo. Im sure it will work just fine with your motor.
 McGeeRC 22 points
No! I tried this and completely fried my ESC. The folks at Team Associated told me the amperage draw is to much for the ESC.

is good for off-road 1/18 1/16.
if you use an off-road 1/16 uses a fan to cool it uses.
I suggest you use the 3s lipo batteries, fan for motor and esc.
I used this esc with Hsp Sacker Sport Truggy (mini rave 1/18).
3s lipo batteries 5200Kv motor, very fast, I had to buy the metal pinion and spurgear.
I purchased a year ago, still works perfectly.

The manual also states that there is automatic low voltage cut-off detection as it's default setting. You can change it to suit your preference. I like this feature because I use lipo and NiMh packs.
Nino  8 points - 4/13/2012

Does it work with 1S, 4,2V Lipo? Thanks!
 mad jay 185 points
Well, this ESC has a 5v BEC,so no,it won't work on 1s. It actualy says 2-3s on the product screen. The only ESC i can see for 1s here is a 160amp at the bottom of the ESC page.Don't forget, log in to credit answers please!
 Nino 8 points
Ok thanks, Anyone know a 1s ESC with Reverse at Hobbyking? Thanks
 mad jay 185 points
If you read the last but one answer i am ever gonna give it said where there is one.120amp sorry. With reverse!Good luck,i aint doin this 4 free anymore, see ya!

Can this esc be used with a 3500kv motor and a 5x5 prop for a Swamp Dawg.
 mad jay 185 points
yeah, can do. As long as your gonna use a ground radio
 club17 58 points
A trigger style radio. So that setup would not draw more than 18amps.
 mad jay 185 points
this ESC will handle bursts of up to at least 25a. It depends on which 3500kv motor you mean. But this ESC has very good heat dissapation. On 3s lipo, I think you'd be alright with a 300watt motor. Any chance you could click the box for was this the best answer. It's frustrating when you give up so much time to help and people don't even credit you back. It doesn't cost you anything! Anyway, good luck..
 Jacob 46 points
Yes this is what I use in my swampdawg and it is perfect doesn't take up to much room and I use the hobby king 2.4ghz 2ch transmitter n receiver combo I think it was around $17.00 in it works flawlessly plus the tiny receiver you can stick to the top of on inside of seats cover in run the antenna wire out of the hole just modify a slot so wire doesn't get pinched when you close it you'll see what I mean

do we can put that esc whit a 4 pole motor (neu proton) is for my micro rally.
 mad jay 185 points
Yeah, I don't see why not.
 Nathaniel 7 points
As long as the motor does not exceed 18amps of current draw you should be fine, if you use motor that pulls more amps than the esc will deliver it will blow it out
 Jacob 46 points
Dang touch screen phone I accidentally hit the report while I was scrolling down please do not report its nothing bad
 mattio79 120 points
check the rating of the motor. if it states the maximum is 25A or less, it will work. this ESC will recognize and autotune for up to 12 poles (most outrunners are 4 pole or greater)
 Will 7 points
Yes on Micro t Forums Peeps have apparently used it with there protons, so i don't see why not.
shahram72  45 points - 2/28/2012

Can this be programmed with the regular Turnigy programming card that I already have, or do I have to have the trackstar one?
 mattio79 120 points
you need the trackstar one.
 sour41 126 points
yes its working
 shahram72 45 points
so which is is, does it work with the regular turnigy programming card or not. Has someone actually used it with the regular turnigy one? Would not be an issue if HK had it in stock, but their out of stock situation is terrible.
 mattio79 120 points
it WILL NOT work with any other than the Trackstar programming card. this is not a hobbywing product like the other 18a esc. this is a Toro Micro esc. if you can get a hold of one of those, it will work just fine.
 Nathaniel 7 points
I have the recommended trackstar programing card and it works great no problems.

so i just slapped this esc in my HPI mini recon and it seems to stutter/hesitate to get going with a 2030 motor rated at 5200kv. is that just the nature of the esc or whats going on? otherwise great esc.
 mattio79 120 points
the stutter can be caused by a number of things. first, the cheapest* check your gear mesh. a too-tight gear mesh will cause cogging ( that condition you described aas stuttering). the 2nd option os to check your battery. with the size of that car, a 1500 mah 2S battery that is rated to 30C is required. the third thing is that you want to obtain a 18/100/150A trackstar programming card. you want to raise "punch control" to 50pcnt or more. the esc is not perfect with any sensorless motor and sho
 andy] 32 points
Well I will check all of those things. I have a 1300mah battery rated at 20 but that's fine since It can give me 26amps constant plus this stuttering happen when I'm very light on the throttle.... I have the track star programing card for this specific esc too but I will try to modify the settings as you said. Thanks for the help I will let you know what happens
 mattio79 120 points
sensorless motors will always stutter under light throttle unless the motor has enough torque to move the car.
 andy] 32 points
Ya I know but the stock 370 size brushed motor didn't...
 mattio79 120 points
brushed motor does not rely on estimated electromagnetic feedback either. it is a direct conductive connection. the only way to get rid of cogging in brushless motors/escs is to get sensored. and to my knowledge, nobody makes a 370 sized sensored motor. i now know why you are having the issue. you were basing your observation and expectations on experience rather than research. i hope that if you have any other questions, that i can answer them to your satisfaction.
 andy] 32 points
Ya your right. I was expecting it to just be all around better then the brushed motor :-D and it is just not at a ridiculously low speed. Will setting the timing lower improve this?
 @rtie 2 points
I have one of 14t combo on a 18r running 3s 14tpinion it's great in low and high speeds. I had this kind of problem 1/24 losi what I did was resolder the bullet plugs fixed my problem

I have the programming card and it works well but it does not have the option for 100% forward and reverse. Default is only 50% power in reverse and although it lists 100% as an option with programming via the transmitter. I really realy hate programming that way as I find keeping track of the beeps and flashes almost impossible. Can anyone confirm that it really is possible to get this esc to run 100% in reverse before I spend frustrating hours trying to get it to do something it can't do?
 mattio79 120 points
there might be an issue with your motor in that it is designed to be run in one direction over the other and has an intrinsic timing built in. the liklihood of you knowing what motor will have it is nearly nil. i have had 3 of the same kind of 4 different motor, and 1 motor did that. took it apart ( only because i demagnetized the rotor) and found out that some of the windings had a ramp-like arrangement that seemed to induce current at a non-tangential angle.
 thesmith1 27 points
No I don't think its that. the motor runs the same speed both ways if you swaps two of the leads around with it on a aircraft type ESC.
 mattio79 120 points
as far as possible to get 100% reverse, i have not tried it. i just left mine alone and it seemed to be good enough, but then again, i had the system in a 1/24th scale losi micro rally 4x4 so it never needed 100% throttle.

I ask you help because I need two esc to control the two motors a tank. I need a esc with forward and reverse? without the brake function. Is possible with this esc? In the programming card ''reverse type''what it means Proportional ''rev. lock-out'' thanks
 gouldie 401 points
no this esc cant heres what it says in manual REVERSE LOCKOUT allow the use of reverse only after the esc senses two seconds of neutral throttle FORWARD/BRAKE ONLY no reverse function FORWARD/BRAKE/REVERSE reverse or forward is accessible at any time AFTER the esc brakes to zero motor rpm (meaning your have to wait for the motor rpm to completely stop before reverse, total stand still)
 __Ufir 18 points
You can turn off brake option and you can setup instant reverse. Just check User`s Manual. Also, be very careful with switch. Its not turning off completely and drains battery. I already have one lipo puffy.
 Richard 9 points
the best thing to use in a tank is a standerd brushed motor they tend to give the best throttle response
 mattio79 120 points
you can use 2 of these in a tank if you get a 4 channel air radio with 2 sticks. you will need to use channel 2 for the left esc and channel 4 for the right esc. then you will need to reprogram the left esc to reverse motor operation. you will also want to program drag brake to 100pcnt. this will give you the best result with a tank.

I bought one of these last week, using it in my RC18R with a 4200 brushless motor. Problem is the esc just cogs, it won't take off from stand still, just sits there and jitters. I have reset the throttle range 5 times. Tried changing settings with the program card, but nothing fixes the problem. I'm waiting to hear back from support, any help would be appreciated.
 Magicmole 21 points
Check the motor wires, this can happen sometimes when a motor wire is snapped. :)
 gouldie 401 points
check the soldering on connectors, they may look fine but they still can be to blame.
 brandon 8 points
try setting the gear mesh again or you may need to change the gearing completely
 Richard 9 points
try adjusting the timing settings that may be what your problem is you might just need a new onw these can somtimes jsut be **** when you get them but hey for the price if you get one and it doesnt work its still worth it to get anouther one
 mattio79 120 points
check the following: pinion/spur mesh* wheel, drivetrain bearings (bushings, god forbid) to make sure they spin freely)* battery rating ( should be CAPABLE of providing 45-90 Amps of current)* and motor leads. color matching or near matching is optimal (if your motor leads are black yellow and red* red goes to orange, black to blue and yellow to yellow.
 Gary 1 points
What Brushless motor are you running. If it is a Castle they can be picky at times. You should also try another battery pack. It could be a number of things. If everything was good before the new ESC I would say its incompatibility or the ESC is bad.? When dialed in the 18r is a beast on 3s brushless!! better stock up on spur gears though!!

1 thumbs up!
Mine just arrived in the mail today... Looks to be good quality, and a bit shorter than the Turnigy 18A Car ESC... Will be dropping this lil puppy into my Losi Micro SCT on 3S lipo and a Turnigy 3850kV 1230 motor... After I build a carbon fiber chassis of course!!! Will update this review when truck is completed...
