I run a GWS 8x4.3 slow fly prop on my depron indoor foamy with a 300 2cell and the motor gets warm is all and will 3D the plane fantastic with about 6 min run.

what size is the allen screws that hold it to the base and do you sell them
Donald  1 points - 2/17/2013

I need a prop that will fit this motor. Like a 4.1X4.1. Does anyone have any part numbers handy? I'm trying to upgrade my cox extra 300 to brushless using this motor. Thanks.
 Is40:31 1463 points
Closest one I could find is PRODUCT ID: 074000056 . . . . how has the plane worked out for you? I'm looking for a small indoor 3d, something durable.

Hallo! it is possible to have the shaft exit from the front side (i.e. where tehre are the prop saver)?
 Gary 2986 points
Just had a look at one, think it can be done, looks like the 2 prop saver bolts actually nip onto the shaft,if these are released the shaft should slide through.
 Is40:31 1463 points
It's been a few months since you asked, but I just did one tonight. Release the prop saver screws, remove the c clip at the rear of the motor and carefully tap the shaft thru. I have done this many times over the years with other motors, I use a deep socket that fits very closely over the front of the motor, then place it on a concrete floor and get to work.

I'd like to build a quadcopter out of this little monster... which and how many batteries am I going to need? I'd like some assistance related to propellers as well. I'd like to use this ones TGS 6X4E, is that ok?

How much thrust would a 6x4 prop with this motor give and how much thrust would a 8x6 prop with this motor give?
 ElectricAussie 2780 points
Hi Marcus, An 8x6 prop would be a waste of time on this motor, as you will see less thrust than you'll get from the 6x4. This motor is tiny, both in size and power. Even the 6x4 is at the high end of what this motor can turn efficiently. You might see 280g of thrust with the 6x4, but the motor will run hot. Cheers, EA

 Marcus 9 points
So what prop would you recommend for this motor. Thanks for replying
 ElectricAussie 2780 points
If you're looking for speed, a 6x4 or 6x5 is a good choice. Anything more will start to generate more heat than power and shorten flying time from your LiPo. If you're flying 3D, a very low pitch (3-4) 6-7inch prop will give the best combination of thrust and airflow over the wing. Cheers, EA
 ElectricAussie 2780 points
Hi Marcus, Just re-read my first reply and should have said the motor would run hot on the 8x6, not the 6x4 prop. If you saw an efficiency chart for the motor, you would see efficiency start to drop off with props above the 6x4/7x3 size. As efficiency goes down, the wasted energy is usually converted to heat. Cheers, EA

Thank you very much for your replies and your time I much aprè*s iate your help

What kind of thrust is this capable of with a 5030 prop?
 ElectricAussie 2780 points
Hi Jeff, You can expect somewhere around 240g of thrust with a 5x3 prop. A higher pitch (5x4 or 5x5) will increase the thrust to around 270g, but efficiency will start to drop off beyond that. Cheers!
 josheus 18 points
I'm using this motor in an e flite Cessna 150 , 2 cell with a 7x 4. Enough thrust for good scale flite with minimal amp draw , thrust around 350g

You can mount it at back side, using flexible rubber ring prop spinner, or mount it at front, using standard 2mm Alu spinner
 ElectricAussie 2780 points
The prop saver is built into the front of the motor. The prop sits on the small lip at the very front and the rubber o-ring hooks over the two screws. You just have to use the right size prop bushing or drill the prop to the right diameter. Cheers!
Matthew  5 points - 4/17/2012

Can someone tell me if this will fit the 6mm ID carbon tube like the eflite park 250 uses. I wish HK would add this dimension in the description.
 ElectricAussie 2780 points
The rear bearing tube that fits into the motor mounting is 6mm diameter. This motor is a virtual clone of the eflite park 250, so it's safe to assume that everything will swap seamlessly between the two motors. Cheers!

Would anyone know what type of thrust this engine would be getting with the recommended 8x6 propeller? Thanks
 ElectricAussie 2780 points
An 8x6 prop is at the high end of the range for this motor, and will chew up lots of power in the form of heat without adding much thrust. A better choice would be a 7x3 or 7x4, which will give you approx. 280g-300g of thrust depending on the prop. Cheers!
 cr8tive_leo 177 points
8x3.8 would be the perfect match for this motor, will run cool, and give you the best thrust/power ratio.PRODUCT ID: TGS8x3.8E is what I run with 3d foamies, and the performance is mint.

sorry i am a newb. I just bought the turnigy park 250 and I do not know how to attach the prop. can someone help plz? ty
 rasmuser 78 points
It's something called prop. saver. You attach the propeller to the axis and use a rubber band over the prop then hooked on the out-sticking screws.
 Lawrence 1 points
Sorry I should've elaborate, rasmuser. It also came with a prop adapter and I don't know where that prop adapter goes.
 rasmuser 78 points
Aight, yea, you'll have to mount it on the axis so that thw motor will be placed behind it's mount. Pretty wierd construction.

using prop saver rubber bands. I love mine I have three of them they are tough as nails.

Ty all. I finally figured it out. I was going to reverse the shaft for a puller plane setup, but was scared of bending the shaft so im using the rubber band setup.

Hi, any prob's with 3cell setups?
 Paul 11 points
never tried, but with a 8x4.3 prop with a 2S lipo, it becomes hot. So, I don't want to do a burning test for fun.

I've run a 3s 500mAh battery, a 10amp ESC with x APC 4.75x4.75 on the Bonsai wing with 9gram servos. Lots of fun! No problems just warm.

It's how much current or power a motor draws when there is no propeller on the motor. Motor W/O propeller= No load current

would this be an alternative to a 350-400 speed brushed motor? thinking of getting this for a mini bee (by windrider). its a 11oz flying wing
 Paul 11 points
For me it's not strong enough, personally,I use a 2208-1500 kv on a polyclub with a 9" prop.

i would go a little bigger have this motor in a 5oz plane and flys well. try a hobby king 2612 not much bigger and way more power..

What prop saver/O-ring would you use with this - it seems like an odd size.
 DGeorge 11 points
The prop saver you see in the photo doesn't come off. Thera-bands (exercise bands) work much better than o-rings. O-rings are designed for compression, not tension. I had a red thera-band laying around and used a sharp hobby knife to cut off 1/8" slices. These allow the prop to give under low pressure, and re-centers easily yet holds it snug to the prop saver (won't stretch from the thrust created by this motor), easy to put on and take off, and they are small/light to boot!

The 10 pack of o-rings I got here were to "concrete" and didn't allow the prop to return to center. If the prop was slightly off, it would remain slightly off even under power. Of course just the right sized o-ring would work fine, but then you have to hunt down and trial/error many o-rings for every motor/prop combo, or you can cut some thera-band and have something that works for many sizes.

I saw a review that said 3S with 4040, anybody else using 3S and with which prop?
 Fatcat1 8 points
With a 3S and 4040 prop i came up with just under 11 volts to the motor max rating is 7 for this motor I would tread lightly with this set up.
 craig 1 points
i use a 9-6 on this same setup no problems yet had about 20 flights..

Has anyone tryed to move the shaft to the fron on this one?
 Agris 22 points
I did it. Used tthis motor for Mini J3 Cub. But... one little crash, shaft was bended & motor jitter when I try to start it up. ESC- 12A Mystery Now i am waiting for other motor. Shaft is pressed very hard in to bell, so you will need some tools to do that. Good luck!
 Mark 1 points
So you were able to use a vice to push the shaft through without doing any damage. Anything special to know before I try this?

This is an excellent motor, I have this and the E-Flight 250, see files for a comparison image, or the discussions. The windings on this motor are thicker as far as I can tell. and so is the stator as can be seen in the picture. This turns a 8x4.3 with no problem, only getting slightly warm, the original struggles with this prop and gets a bit too warm. Two improvements are that this has 2 screws holding the tube into the base and the spindle extends out the back so that you can use the provided spinner if desired. This is better than 1/4 the price I paid fro the E-Flight which makes it fantastic value and on the whole a better motor. Only down side is that it weighs 18g in total including the mount. This is just a copy from the reviews as I coudnt upload my image target=_blank>250-250

8X6 prop on a 14g 2200Kv????
Would be intersting to know the amp and rpm on that setup. Maybe it is on 1s?
Must be best motor ever made if it can take that on 2s without...
 T0RN4D0 39 points
Haha 8x6 would fry this sucker even on 1 cell. Im guessing 4.5x4.5 would be reasonable for it.
 t3beatz 410 points
Guys... I guess you all have never heard of the E-flite park 250? If this motor is similar than it might be able to run that prop. We fly indoor foamys with the 250 with 8x4 and 8x4.3 props with no problems at all.
 DGeorge 11 points
I ran this motor for the first time today in an Extra 330SC with a GWS 8x4. It's my first foamie/small brushless experience but it seemed to perform well, and it was 95-100 degrees F outside.

Ok, so far I've run the motor with a GWS 8x4.3 slow-fly prop and its great! Smooth starts and good power, quality was fine also. For the price its a great motor, I have not put it in a plane yet but I will next week and I'll update on in-flight performance.

Nice little motor. Im using it on a mini funjet. Right now it runs on 2S and 7035GWS, but it should give some nice speed runs on 3S and 4040 prop =) It weigs about 18g with the motor mount.

The quality of this motor is great. the design looks sound and i can wait to see how my glider turned micro hotliner handles it. i will try multiple propellers and see how it go's. the only downside i can see is when doing static run ups, sitting just over half throttle, with a 6*3 prop my hobbyking 8-10a esc was getting warm. i think that on full throttle it will become hot. i will post another review when i have flown with it.
