The outdrives and differential gears are metal, rest is plastic. I have boght this for two cars and they are performing wery well.

yes, when hobbyking reposted these difs, they said it was metal geared, because the outdrives are really what strip and bend, so it is metal in the parts where its needed, but the internals still remain plastic. Buy the outdrive set though if you just need them, but really for the $1 more, it might be worth getting the internals for spares too.

I just received these yesterday and they are NOT metal geared. They are however quite good quality.

it is not exactly compatible with the 1:16 buggy.but there is another gearbox which is compatible with the 1:16 buggy.you can find it in the car spare parts section.

silicon grease is the best!

dont use silicone grease as it somehow melts the plastic and its not a good oil for this. Use tamiya anti-wear grease which is the best for this.

module is 0.5
stock pinion is 15t and if you want super speed (35kph) with 2 lipo cells. Use a a 12 or 13t pinion to get :
-normal speed like "team asso RC18 1/18 car"
or
- super speed with 3cells without breaking anything

So how many people have destroyed this? It took more abuse than expected but this rear finally blew mostly. I hope they come back in to stock soon, I got another whole car because I like it so much and I can't wait for this :)

my first one, with 2 cells 1600 lipo, lasted about 12 packs, meaning 20 minutes X 12... not bad for the price. See file section for spare parts list, including bearings parts

Just destroyed my first rear gearbox. Tried to run it on a 3S/2200mA/20c lipo on a muddy/sandy surface. It easily withstands the small jumps and ocassional rollovers, but the right rear wheel hitting a rock on full-throtle managed to break it. Cant wait to replace it! This thing is fun! *)
