Hi, I bought 6. run with balance charger on e-bike, kept logs, and monitored closely. In a couple months, failed 3 single cells, one cell each in each of three 8400 4s packs. details, goog-search, endless-sphere , HK, LifePo4. Non-bs engineer type, read there. outside of 30 day, so no recourse, but certainly not up to my standard, even for 'hobby'.
will this pack really sustain over 200 amp output?
30c ???
my understanding of LiFePO is that one drawback is high amp draw, I would expect this pack to be maxed out at 30amp sustained output.
I am hoping to chain 3 together and make an 8.4ah 36v pack for an E-Bike. I measured my setup to max just over 30 amp draw. I have no experience with LiFePo chem, just what I have read. anyone able to offer some info?
after reading back a bit I found a few peeps using it for the same setup. Anyone out there in WWW land able to tell me how they stand up after 5 or 6 months? looking at a BMS on fleabay Item number: 221172139610 to match them up and protect them.
Hi all,
I want to connect this battery to my car as startUp battery-Do I must use BMS? because the max charge voltage is 14.3V and min is 12V (alternator kick in).
14.3V is much lower then max recommended voltage of ~15.8V-16V - so can 1 of the cells overcharged?
I do have lipo charger and It first time I can fully charged it and balance it- is it enough?
Thanks In Ahead!
I use one in my motorbike and do not use a BMS. I did buy a small battery balancer, but it is not required. After 6 months the cells are 3.31, 3.31, 3.30 and 3.32. They appear well matched. Battery voltage is 14.4V full charge (4x3.6V) and suited to vehicle charging systems. Typical voltage is 13.2V.
8AWG = 10 square mm cuprum wires. 103,0? in Russian GOST standard at 12v. Seems 170A at 8.4V
so, 20C is maximum. But i think 30C peak it's okay.
But i don't know that wires inside the pack. Need to check
Is this pack made with A123 cells? Why only 40C burst discharge rate vs. 60C in individual A123 cells? I'm planning on using this as a motorcycle battery (1000cc V2), do you foresee any problems (e.g. overheating due to wiring size)?
1) Does the pack include the BMS (battery management system)? Why is the balance plug needed?
2) During the discharge, should the balance plug be connected anywhere?
3) What's charger should be used with the pack? Is charging/discharging done on the same wires?
4) Is it possible to connect 4 such packs in serial in order to get the 48V battery? How many chargers would I need to charge such 48V pack?
5) What does the "Config(s) 4" mean?
if your thinking ebike no there is no bms same setup as lipo only you change you charger from lipo to life. you can charge the packs with one charger.
i have tested a few lipo monitors on my ebike and find the celllog works best to monitor pack voltage.
i don't get false alarms when the pack sages.
Hi Karma, Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I'm thinking eBike...
What charger would you recommend for this pack? What's Adapter Board in order to charge 4 packs simultaneously?
What's your opinion about the Turnigy 4x6S Lithium Polymer Battery Pack Charger? It has 4 ports and able to charge up to 4 packs simultaneously...
What's CellLog model would you recommend for the pack?
Thank you a lot
well myself i don't charge them all at once. i cant be bothered to buy or build the leads to do it.
the 4 port charger is a good deal there have been a few good reviews on them. i would avoid the cheap ones.i have a cheap one a month old and the start button is foobar already. as for the cell-log the $13 model without logging works well.
i use one cell-log per pack. and they can be set to work with lifepo4 for the proper lvc voltage alarm. if you don't discharge the pack below 50% and keep them balanced you should fine.
what's the problem with discharging the pack below 50%?
I'm a little bit confused with choosing the charger... Does the LiFe charger means the LiFePo4 one? Are the LiFe and LiFePo4 the different names to the same batteries? Does LiFe mean LiFePo4?
If your starter needs 252amps to start something? I would say they try them before you knock them. Of course you would need higher Kv motors to compensate for lower voltage.,
Good for powering a field charger. If I hadnt just ripped apart most of my a123 flight packs and made them into a 4S2P I would have bought one of these. With that I can charge the two receiver packs and one ignition pack in my 40%.
These are going to be KILLER for eBikes. Many eBike guys are buying 5000mAh packs right now, wishing we could get 10000mAh or 20000mAh packs. These come close enough!!!
Now if we can only get these in 5s/6s, 15 or 20c... for a lower price.. then i can die happy!
Whoops - these are LiFePo4.. i was thinking of the lipo packs!!
Nonetheless, these are very cool.. might cost more, but much longer life and much safer than lipo!
David,
Another good thing about these is that their already exist proper BMS systems for lifepo4 chemistry. No need to spend $$$$ on lvc hvc and chargers.
Although I've read that these cells sag under load a lot, and are actually more like 3c or 4c.
I wonder if these need to be primed and treated nice the first dozen cycles. Maybe this could be the reason for the negative reviews.
Very good battery! Using 3 of battery for 4km e-bike ride on snow witch me, 110kgplus and family on sledge (240kg summary). minimum 30A, -5°С, 8450maH given! Very good! Amazing!

Just got my two packs - Using them as sportbike starter batteries. Installed one in a 2007zzr600, and the other one in a 2007 Yamaha R1. They have about double the capacity of the lead acid batteries that they repalced. Sitting voltage is around 13.9volts... and no voltage sag when starting - the bikes start much better now. The stock regulator/rectifier has no problems running with LIFE. At 2lbs per bike, im saving almost 7lbs over the OEM batts....Im hoping they last years... (at this price, im thinking of putting 3 in parrallel for my car..)
