Hey there, I just got this esc to use in my bixler. It will only function when a 2 cell lipo is plugged into it. I need to use a three cell to fly. When I do plug in any of my many 3 cells it powers up and throws the aileron servos to a right along with the rudder. The elevator also over travels and locks up. Can any one tell me if there is a solution to this esc or is it just ****. I have everything hooked up correctly and wired correctly also so this is not the problem.
Any help here would greatly be appreciated. Certainly hope this thing is not a paper weight (****). I hardly ever have problems with HK products but this is a new esc in a new plane and seems to be messed up!
Thanks.
Anyone know how to reverse the throttle on this thing. I have tried doing it through my tx but but reverse the throttle on my tx it just goes to wide open with no control from stick and stays that way until i put it back to normal or unplug the battery. I have tried programming it with my tx with the beeps but i don't get the same beeps that the manual says. If someone could do a walkthrough for me that would be great.
Has anybody had success programming this ESC. I have tried many times, but cannot get it to come off the "low" settings. It does a series of 5 x n beeps, before the beeps end, I move to mid stick, then it does a small tune, and starts the next set of 5 x (n 1) beeps. Whenever it finishes, I unplug and re-plug, but it always has the "low" settings.
Haven't had much luck with these, 2 have literally blown b4 I ever got the quad, then tricopter in the air. I was building a quad, but one of the ESCs blew, so I made a Tri and another one blew. It's simply not worth contacting Hobbyking about either. They take forever to reply to your emails, and if they decide to replace it be prepared to wait months. I am using local hobby shop ESCs from now on.
As long as you have a low voltage alarm. They DO NOT have a NiMh/NiCd battery setting so they idle down at low voltage. As long as you have an alarm you should be ok.
my esc runs on mode that i dont want , i wanna to make it work on the default mode but i dont know how (Note : i dont have programming card )
any help thanks in advance :)
try the turnigy programming card, but I'm not shure
you could better calibrate your esc's manualy. you'll find a manual in the filestab.
hope this helps
you have to use your TX to program. Using series of beeps, look above the box where you typed in your message and click on files. Thats everything you need to know in the available files there. Should get you on the right track
I have the "white" Turnigy BESC card and it does _NOT_ work on this ESC. Maybe different releases of either ESC or programming card. Maybe this one can be programmed using a "mystery" compatible card. I will try once mine has arrived here... :-/
hello I have this Turnigy Brushless Heli L2508A-3500 Motor (200W) (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewIte m.asp?idProduct=14741) to install on a hk250, which is indicated by the ESC for if I can help elected. thanks
Try using a 30A ESC. I think there is a 30A version for that ESC. As a rule of thumb, go for ESC with the same or more current requirement from the motor.
I have these on a Quad. Like others, found them difficult to program, (I don't read pigeon English)the instructions, well leave a lot to be desired. However, by pure fluke got them set up, but one motor has Brake on. Any suggestions please.I do have a card, but one of these ESC's blew at first connection and took out my card as well. Cards are on back order.
Go to setup mode (put throttle stick to max then power up.) Once it enter setup mode you have to confirm with THRO stick down then up again.
THe first settting is for brake just leave the stick up as that turns brake to OFF. Though default should be OFF already.
I recently switched from a 1500kv motor to a 2600kv and now I have problems with a little bit of at medium throttle and a flat cut off at full throttle. I tried to program the esc with some instructions I found online (apparently they were wrong) and now it is set to a very soft startup and doesn't cut out at full throttle but it surges all the time. Where can I find the proper programing card or instruction manual?
HI I have the turnigy AE-20 ESC bought by your company wich programmer card is good for this esc. The manual is not correct programming via the transmitter doesn't work I have tested on two of the esc's both are doiing the same. best regards
I have a similar problem. I connected the ESC, throttle at minimum, three BEEP than continuosly short beeps.
Throttle at maximum only the series of short beeps, no way to enter programming
The motor don't moves at all
Any suggestion?
Thanks and Regards
I know how its works the manual is not so good or clear. you have 5 items wich you can program. Each item you can choose out 3 items. Switch transmitter on with full trottle. Whait for the end dong. then trottle to zero and again a end dongle.(Gas is calibrated) Then the esc starts beeping first one tone beep beep 5x in that time set the gas in low or middle or max.after the 5 times you hear the end dong. if you have set the gas in middle you have programmed second pos of first item. first item is brake and you have programmed soft. For thie other items its same procedure. After this the esc start beeping 2times and repeeting 5 its simpel keep in mind the middle gas pos is an selection best regards its agrate esc
My additional 2 cents. I wasn't able to get to programming. I was alwais receiving the alarm beep.beep.... I tried modifing throttle EPA to 120% and max trim up. It worked, entered in program mode and I was able to complete the setup. Now it's working fine. Al
Have been running these ESC's on both V1 and V2 HK quad boards with success. Only thing I can think of is to set your throttle max and min. Instructions are on quad page/files.
3 wires connected to the motor. 2 to the battery, taking into account the polarity. If the direction of rotation does not suit you, change the two wires going into any motor...
yes three wires are for the motor. if the motor is going back wards switch two wires. Please ensure you solder the battery plug on correctly, check your battery polarity when you solder it. reverse polarity is the quickest way to send end ur esc's life.
Warning; two AE-20A bought, the two works on plane but only one works with the programming card( the last bought doesn't works)you can see on picture that the processor have been modify.
so be careful with your next purchase

Tried every single setting combinaton. EVERY SINGLE ONE. And this happens with every single motor I have.Checked the wiring too. I'll take it apart and have a peek under the aluminium cooler pad.
which is better: a turnigy AE series ESC or a Turnigy Plush ESC? What is the difference? Which is newer? I see the AE *looks* better to me, with more features and programming options, but it also costs less, and I've heard great things about the Plush models. Any feedback is appreciated.
Hi,
I don't know really the diffence, but for sure, the AE-20A (so AE serie) works really nice.
It tooks me a while to understand how to program it, but it's not so hard.(the manual is ****, the "ding-ding-ding" doesnt match at all with what you can ear).
There's a way to program it with your transmitter through stick movements. I do not personally know how, I've never used stick movements to program an ESC. So best guess, google it or contact Turnigy/Hobby King to find out how.
well thank you captain obvious :) But the card is not working with the ae-20a esc. My turnigy programming card works, as I've used/been using it with more than one turnigy sentinel and another no name escs. But the programming card doesn't seem to work with this esc. my card is more than a year old. Have there been a version change on turnigy escs that I am not aware of that makes my old programming card compatible.
So, if this is based on a new and improved microcontroller, which one is it? Most ESC's are built with an atmega8 chip. Is it still an AVR chip, or has some enterprising engineer ported the design to say a cortex M3?
Does any body know when this item will be in stock!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I have placed my order 8/9/2010 and its still BK! And when I did that it was wtiten that this ESC will be in stock on early sept! Later status have been changed to 20-40 days! I' m tired of waiting, and I'm very disappointed how HK take care of their clients! I have wrote for them 3 emails, and got back 0 answers! Shame on you HK!:(
I have a $60 order with them and they holding the entire order hostage for this one esc. I have emailed them twice requesting to send the rest of the order with no response. I just want what I paid for, and not wait months to have them lose my order in their files. I guess I write them again, maybe everyday till I get a response.
It clearly states when you are checking out that if one item is on back order, the entire order will be held until the back order item is in stock. This is probably to cut down on shipping costs so YOU dont get charged for both packages.
I have had sucess using the Turnigy programming card with this ESC www.link motor speed (Maximum): 210000 RPM (2 poles), 70000 RPM (6 poles), 35000 RPM (12 poles)
With a program card, you can activate the music playing function of the ESC, and totally there are 15 songs can be selected
Programmable Items:
1. Brake Setting:Enabled / Disabled, default is Disabled
2. Battery Type:Li-xx(Li-ion or Li-poly) / Ni-xx(NiMH or NiCd),default is Li-xx.
3. Low Voltage Protection Mode(Cut-Off Mode): Soft Cut-Off (Gradually reduce the output power) or Cut-Off (Immediately stop the output power). Default is Soft Cut-Off.
4. Low Voltage Protection Threshold(Cut-Off Threshold):Low / Medium / High, default is Medium. When NOT using balance discharge monitoring and protection function (i.e. Not plugging the balance charge connector into the BDMP socket on the Guard series ESC, the ESC only monitors the voltage of the whole battery pack ) 1) For lithium batteries, the number of battery cells is calculated automatically. Low / medium / high cutoff voltage for each cell is: 2.6V/2.85V/3.1V. For example: For a 3 cells lithium pack, when Medium cutoff threshold is set, the cut-off voltage will be: 2.85*3=8.55V. 2) For nickel batteries, low / medium / high cutoff voltages are 0pcnt/45pcnt/60pcnt of the startup voltage (i.e. the initial voltage of battery

Have to agree with previous review. I got it with AXN floater jet. When testing it on ground it was extremely heating and smoke was going from it. In the air it failed expectedly after 1-2 minutes of flight. Plane crashed because all servos went suddenly to extreme positions and plane became uncontrollable.

Got it with the AXN floater jet. The ESC did not blow up, but it put DC voltage on the motor and it fried the coils.
This product WILL cause expensive damage!
Main advantages: low weight, small size, pre-programmed, a wide range of choice of motors and batteries! Bought it for my boat, sorry it is not sealed.
