i see no problem with that.. but you should consider to stabelize the battery pack with sellotape or on a pice of cardbord before you heatshrink the thing. that is to avoid "flipping" from the cells after wrapping and to keep the batterypack flat.
A lighter works well on the smaller sizes for insulating wires, for lipo cover replacement use a heat gun. It's a good $20-30 well spent. There's a chance of burning out your wifes hair dryer. Unhappy wife = fewer and smaller Hobby King orders.
If you leave the cover a little bit long, shrink the end to the smallest diameter, and pinch it off while still hot with a pair of long nose pliers, you can completely seal the end. For the other side, coat the wires at the base with high temp silicone, shrink and pinch. Now the pack is totally sealed and waterproof.
sorry, how am I supposedly able to shrink it around the lipo if I have to heat it up? Will it trigger the lipo to ignite? I usually use a lighter when working with thinner wires.
How do you think they heat shrink lipos at the factory? With a heat gun.You won't set the batteries on fire unless you put a blow torch to it.No open flame heat sources please, just heat guns used with a degree of common sense.
Shrinking this tube with a lighter will be nearly impossible, exspecialy with Lipos, you have to avoid Spot-Heat. I would shrink it with a Heatgun...
Factory-made Lipo packs are also wrapped in heatshrink tube... So do it outside and avoid to much heat, you could also take breaks to let the Lipo cool down, you could shrink the Tube slowly...
I don't have a heat gun. I do have several lighters which I used for small soldering jobs like changing connectors on my batteries, simple wiring for my powerplant, etc.
Anyway, I don't really need this heatshrink, just asking only.
well... actually i did used a lighter for a few 4S 5200mAh lipo pacs... i do not recommend that but if you are skilled enough and got lots of experience with hot melt glue and a lighter, than it is easy to do.
my pack are nice and evenly shrinked XD

1 thumbs up!
This is really massive, heavy and strong shrink tube. Also it's very cheap.
But it have really high temperature of shrink. I bought shrink tube in my local shop for about 5$ per 1 mtr, but I can easy shrink it with my 2000W hairdrier. This no way. Too much heat can damage li-po.
