Hi All, I have a pair of 120a Aquastar ESC's which I'm using in a project. The are great watercooled ESC's, but unfortunately support reverse, so have screwed up our throttle which was designed around a full pulse range. My gut tells me that the Superbrain and Aquastar are basically the same hardware in a slightly different package. Anyone reckon I could flash the Superbrain firmware onto the Aquastar?

in the computer program for use with the usb linker I have the opportunity to choose 3s lipo and lower voltages, will this work with voltage lower then 4s lipo?

Any idea on when these are going to be stocked again? Been watching for almost three weeks now. The UK warehouse has them stocked, but US customers can't order from there. Kind of silly since the people that want this ESC are stuck waiting.

useing the turnigy superbrain 100 amp with my setup why does the power stay on to my switch that operates my reciever with 7.4v battery plugged in to run my servos and throttle ? the superbrain doesnt have a bec so why does the power stay on? i need the 7.4 v to run my servo's otherwize there sluggish. can i use a bec with the turnigy superbrain or not ?
 2Doggs 281 points
you actually have to use a BEC or a flight pack to power the RX, since the SB has no BEC. If you do use a flight pack, the RX power will stay on when you disconnect the ESC. The other way to do it is to wire the BEC into the ESC battery leads, in which case the RX power would go off when you unplug the ESC.

Can someone please tell me the dimensions about the mounting holes. I have ordered this but it seems to in a long row to get it. It would help my plane building to make the mounting for ESC.

Hey i want to run this esc with the turnigy xk5682 motor, what sort of battery set up (parralel series etc.) should i use to achieve 20 volts at max 100A? thanks!
 rewolff 58 points
In theory something that can handle "100A". So 50C 2000mAh should in theory be able to handle the load. In practise though, I recommend you shoot for at least about 50pcnt "margin". So e.g. 40C 3800mAh would allow for some margin. I currently fly a multicopter at 4* max10A with a 120A battery (3000mAh @ 40C). The real question is: how much battery capacity can you carry and how much do you need? The bigger the capacity, the lower the C-rating can be. As to the "20V", 6S comes close. It sta
 rewolff 58 points
As to the "20V", 6S comes close. It starts out charged at 25.2V, and discharges to around 20V. Or you could choose 5S, 21V fully charged, discharge down to 16-18V. So from the information you've given, I cannot say: chose this one. But I can allow you to calculate what you need. Start with the time you want to fly/drive/whatever. Convert to hours (e.g. 10 minutes = 0.166 hours). Multiply by the average Amps you're going to use. with 100A max, this might be 30A. Multiply these together and you get the required Ah. In the example: 0.166h * 30A = 5Ah. Add a bit of margin. 5 Ah * 1.2 = 6Ah. Now you could use 20C, 6Ah batteries. However, I recommend you get 25C or 30C. Chose 6S, and to get 6Ah, use two 3000mAh ones in parallel. Two of these for example. www.link
 rewolff 58 points
(i've just checked out your motor. It mentions: Max 22.2V, which is 6*3.7V. this would imply 6S LIPO configuration. Now I'd think they allow you to charge your LIPO.... :-) )

How well does this work on 8s lipos, can it be run at about 80A continuously for 10 min?
 NHPILOT 105 points
Per the spec sheet your request of 8s/80a is well within the advertised 12s/100a max so it should be fine. I am running 6s/65a with this ESC, no problems so far.

10 April 2012: I purchased a Super Brain 100A ESC in Feb 2011 -and have not yet used it. I am now about to use this 100A ESC. -So I emailed Zenith Peng, of Chongqing HIFEI Technology Ltd, to find the latest position, so that I can be sure that the ESC will work properly in my plane. I sent the email to: zenith.peng*gmail***** and also to: info*hifei****
Here is his reply to me: " ... Hello Dr. L....
Thanks for your email.
Attached are the last firmware for 100A-K and the manual for HiFei KINGKONG ESCs, you should update the firmware as the following procedures:
1 Using Turnigy Super Brain software to upgrade the old firmware of Turnigy Super Brain 100A with the new one 【*attached: Hifei 1HV 100(A ).DLC】*
2 Download HiFei Software 4.01 in HiFei website ( ***********hifei****/en/News_View.asp?NewsID=122 ), and install it.

After you updated the firmware successfully, the firmware ID will be: AHKA010810HA1000.

When I tested the engine (TR37403-1180) against the super brain controller (TSB100A) first time using 9S LIPO without any load (enginge running idle - no gear, no main rotor), the controller set himself to fire. Furtunately I was able to download the logging information. This shows, that the controller finished his life early at 40A. In addition to that I wonder, how an engine without any load applied can draw 40 A or more. I suspect a mechanical issue on the motor as well (defective bearing ?). Therefore I send both items back for claiming warranty. Good to have the logger active ... . But I will buy a new set (same items) immediately.
 longtom 8 points
Yes I suffered the same cause. Mine didn't catch fire however it stopped and my 700 size heli dropped to ground, luckily only second test flight and two metres off ground. I am using two 6 cells in parallel. I have a heat radar gun I checked temp and it failed at 66 degrees. The motor was only 39 degrees.I have since ordered a castle ice2 160hv. Hopefully it will keep up with draw on not drop out at 66 degrees. Just a shame I wasted that money on this one with NO assistance.

I purchased a Turnigy Plush ESC 60. I plugged it into my Airtronics receiver. I got a constant beep every 2 seconds. The manual says the throttle wiring is wrong. I tried all configurations of plug wiring. Nothing worked. Is the Plush 60 compatible with the Airtronics receivers?

Thanks, John
 magnusEl 1239 points
Yes, Plush 60 is compatibel with Airtronics recivers. The beeps is telling you that there is no signal input to the ECS.

Just received the super brain 100A. No instructions. No matter what I do when I power the ESC, when connected to the receiver and motor, I get ten beeps. If anyone can help that would be appreciated. I have the programming board and the programming box as they where sold out of the USB when I ordered. Configuration: 1)Cutoff type: Hard 2)Governor Mode: Auto 3)Brake type: No brake 4)LVC: Auto 5)PWM: 8kHz 6)Start type: Fast start 7)Timing Advance: Auto 8)Current Limiting: Disable Thanks
 Simon 6 points
Ten beeps usually means you are running 10s battery and the ESC is auto detecting them
 jsmithterp 2 points
I wish that was the case. I have it connected to 5S pack. I also have a bench top adjustable power supply that I have tried up an down the acceptable range for the ESC and I get the ten beeps no matter what voltage input.

i think , you schould try to connect the esc by full thruttle and then shut the thruttle off, that will do it

It can be programmed using the TX stick... but you NEED the computer interface to use the data recording capability of this ESC. If you are not going to get the USB connector, get a different ESC. Default setting is use4able. Its autodetect on the cell count and LVC, auto advance motor control, needs the thrrottle range expanded to maximum on my JR X9303 or it limits max power to appx 90pcnt. (I did first flight using one without connecting it to the computer first) I have 2 of these ESCs and a

What is the maximum rpm for 6 pole motors?
 Adam939 12 points
it depends on the number of cells in the battery. if you enter the engine KV and number of cells I can help You
 drdiscus 144 points
The controller can spin a 2 pole motor at ?what? rpm. Can the controller spin a 6 pole motor up to 70 or 80 thousand RPM?

2500kv 22.2 volt battery=55,500 rpm. (need a controller capable of that speed of switching for 6 pole motor.
 2Doggs 281 points
I think the SB100 can run a 2 pole motor at up to 210,000rpm and a 6 pole motor at up to 70,000rpm. You normally only run close to the limit with 12 pole motors.

are you sure that you have correctly programmed the ESC ..? check again: Current Limitin, Timing Advance, Cutoff Type, PWM Rate and other options. if your batteries are too weak (not enough Amps) load above 70pcnt is too big and the battery voltage drops so the ESC thinks that they are empty, therefore reducing engine power. LVC set to AUTO or one battery is less than (for example, if you have 12s set the 11s) This option is only for testing - do not fly on it! You can destroy the batteries if the

i want to use this ESC in a T-Rex 700 3G.
Softstart and Supersoftstart with enabled Governormode is perfekt.

What is the mistake i made ??
I use the Turnigy Software with USB Linker.
Thanks Woffi

just change the timing and startup ramp mode :)

You're not doing anything wrong, unfortunately the super-soft start mode is only enabled when you use governor mode :(
