can I USE a 3channel tx&rx
 FoamEater 91 points
Hi Dominic, you could set it up with a single-servo aileron setup or dual aileron with a Y cable. You would have Throttle, Aileron, Elevator. Requires another control horn as it only comes with two. May need to make up extra push-rods. Bank and yank like a jet's supposed to fly. All in all less channels sometimes means more work and a heavier setup. Without sounding out of turn, you can get a decent radio system for under $60. Take a look at the 9X.

is this plane a recharble one ?
 Mark 601 points
you supply your own battery. and yes, it should be a rechargeable 500 mAh 20C 2S Lithium Polymer and you will need a charger for your battery.
Karl  261 points - 3/25/2013

Do you guys think that I could use 9g servos in this without compromising flying characteristics? I was thinking just hxt900's
 Mark 601 points
no, the plane is already heavy with the EPP foam. Using an extra 10g worth of servo's will be noticeable. If you are going to use different servos, use lighter ones.

what do I need to buy and make this kit fly and how much will it cost
 jhova1717 162 points
You need a tx and receiver and a esc and two servos and a battery it says it on above page
Ferdia  66 points - 12/29/2012

Is this a good first jet/3rd plane?
 AegeanFox 43 points
If you are still a rookie better not try fighter EDF.... you can buy a training edf like T-45, T-33, AMX or maybe a high-winged attack airplane like A-6 or F-8

I would recommend ordering some JST battery connectors when you order this kit. I did not and now I have to wait for my second order to arrive to finish my model.

Can this plane be flown indoors or is it too fast?
 Kellyann 16240 points
Tank532 just. A 3 court indoor basket ball court will work. I hope this helps.

Do they have these types of jets without profile?
 coolbudz223 88 points
not yet
slaanesh  430 points - 7/21/2011

Why doesn't HobbyKing sell these are airframe only?
The 40mm setup is too heavy for this little jet - especially with an 18amp ESC and 500mah battery!
An airframe only kit would allow the customer to put on their desired EDF.
Justin  2 points - 5/10/2011

can i use 850mah to fly tis?
 Rcforme 210 points
No, way too large and heavy. Hope this helps you and don't forget to credit me if my answer was helpful!

Wow! Many strong reviews. thanks to all.
Found them too late after i ordered 2 to combat with. Sounds like the mate and i will just throw them at each other, like school paper planes. Blunt end first, might go better.
 GRAHAM 168 points
In fact, we might leave em in their boxes, avoid any dissapointments looking et em, and just try to combat the boxes at each other.Hee*hee hee

I realy wanna know what battery i should use. i tried the recommended 2s 500mA zippy 20c but that battery could not handle it and the voltage dropped so the esc quit. Then i tried a 2s 500mA nanotech but same here. should i use a lager battery that can handle the amps?
 F100CUFFLINK 916 points
SOUNDS LIKE YOUR ESC PROBLEM MAYBE
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 anesz 25 points
i think ur right! i used a 2s 2000mA pack and the same problem. i have a new esc but now have to install it.
 F100CUFFLINK 916 points
GOOD I HPPE IT WORKS , IF YOU WANT MORE POWER TRY THE NANO TEC they deliver more than there rated for .
i just orderd 2 4500mPH for 22v setup on my fly fly f4. 130 mph
 anesz 25 points
as you can reed in my first post.... i already have those :p and they work great indeed
darkfox  24 points - 12/6/2010

Hey Guys, is it possible to fly this plane in a gym hall, or its too quick?
 Rcforme 210 points
Way too quick, you don't want an 50mp/h thing in a gym hall. Hope this helps you and don't forget to credit me if my answer was helpful!
Wedge  16 points - 11/30/2010

What's the deal with quoting the weight at 573g and then adding another 1300g for the extra box when you add it to your cart??? I thought the quoted weight was the 'boxed' weight.

Grrrr!
 Wedge 16 points
Nevermind, I emptied my cart and added it again, this time it didn't add the extra box.

happy again *-)
scratchbuilder  40 points - 2/6/2010

Does any one know if i also can buy the edf+brushless motor alone?i mean without buying the jet?

thanks
 gazza2009au 311 points
u can buy the EDF but it comes with a different motor look in the ducted fan section under "parts and accs"
gazza2009au  311 points - 1/20/2010

buyers of this model need to be careful a few people have totaled the plane on maiden launch and i was one of them with the included EDF it has bad torque roll as this EDF is powerful more powerful than this model needs
 jpaulg 39 points
That's bad luck gazza. It would be really helpful to know exactly what happened. Presumably you hand launched. Did it spin? Were you using full throttle? What battery were you using?
 gazza2009au 311 points
hand launch 500mah zippy 2S 6gram corona receiver 18A esc as stated by hobby king over all weight was somewhere around 140grams!!!! it was way to heavy
 vwa3guy 45 points
did this model mention anything about making a thrust tube? I bought this model originally from 2dogrc and the instructions stated it HAD to have a thrust tube on the EDF. Mine never flew either..... the motor in the edf from there was way UNDERpowered. I'm considering trying this one out
 F100CUFFLINK 916 points
edf's dontot torque roll!
gazza2009au  311 points - 1/8/2010

Paul my fuselage also had crease marks on the depron foam parts including my wing someone had bent it than bent it back into shape this shouldnt effect flight performance but it does effect the look of the model as now i cannot remove those marks oh well its a shame as for your fans i would ask around on a rc forum for someone with knowledge on EDF's and send yours away to get the impeller removed and balanced or u can try screwing a screw into the center of the impeller and that may just push the shaft out i done mine like this eventually the center of the impeller snapped there is another web site u can go to 2dogsrc and buy a replacement fan and impeller only as this is the same fan this is the only shop i know that sells the fan as a kit rather than ready to use EDF so u can simply swap over your motor to the new EDF fan housing and impeller once balanced
also this little motor does run a little warm on 2S lipo but however it puts out over 150grams of thrust :o)
 jpaulg 39 points
Thanks gazza. My fuselage is twisted and the internal formers are crushed. It is beyond repair. I think HK will replace it. Your advice on the EDF is helpful. I am hoping that a little work with fine sand paper will solve the problem, but if that fails I will do as you suggest. Thanks again.
gazza2009au  311 points - 12/28/2009

mine arrived a few days ago no second packaging box was used BEWARE! u will still be charged for this box it seemed impossible to remove the impeller i ended up snapped the blade as there is no way of removing it my impeller was rubbing the casing and if u brake the impeller on removal there is no replacement and parts are not interchangeable with GWS 40mm EDF so also be aware of this other than a dodgy unbalanced EDF the kit looks good
 jpaulg 39 points
Thanks for that. Very helpful. I also received mine a few days with the same problem. I will attempt to trim the blade without removing the impeller. A bigger problem is that the fuselage is badly crushed. Hoping HK will replace(???)
 Greg 28 points
Same problems here, no external shipping box, impeller rubs on housing...but as for my crushed fuselage, additional items I had ordered were packed IN the F4-EDF box and had shifted and crushed it repeatedly in transport. Open replacement issue with HK, awaiting response.

5 thumbs up!
Kit arrived yesterday.
The fuse was "squeezed" by improper packing.I have to add additional bulkheads to get it back in shape.
Some of the foam parts have marks on surface.
Usage of a little higer shipping box may solve this problem.
The impeller of the EDF rubs on the shroud and needs rework too.

Basicly a very good design, but quality have to be improoved.

5 stars for the design
3 stars for quality

3 thumbs up!
Mine kit arrived today.
So, what i can say now - nice looking small plane, packaging not so bad (each internal package fixed with some glue tape), but some things can be improved.
First of all, HK, please, think about aligning of fuselage to another side of box - mine was aligned to rear side, but if you fix it near front. it will be more protected - with two layers of cardboard - box and cover. Other is OK.

I wonder, HK says you need 2 servo's (2,5 grams ). You can also see that both servo's are going to the ailerons, but on the first photo you can see a elevator that should be work. Why says HK that you need 2 servo's and not 3? I am vermiliar with ailerons and elevator on 2 servo's like ailerons and alevator in one.
