Now presenting the first Photos of my Ebike DIY Friction drive. Smile

Its gonna make about 40 Km/h using a Turnigy Aerodrive Motor,

a HobbyKing SS 90 ESC, a Servo tester for Speed Regulation and

a 6s 5700mAh Zippy Flightmax LiPo (now just for Testing) if they work good i will maybe raise the Capacity buying some more 5700 Zippys and making a 6p3s Pac

Those zippys are perfect for testig different drives because every cell is packed in its own Hardcase package so you easily can vary the number of cells you are using. Just plug them toghether with 4mm Bullet-Connectors.

Here the Complete drive power system:

I think its a really cute little and compact friction drive system.

Looks interesting.
Will it put a lot of wear on the tire?

Pedal start right? No torque at 0 rpm.
Best Regards

Yes its gonna be pedal start and folding mechanism for the friction drive, so there is no torque on the tire when motor isnt running.

I will post some Photos soon

here is a sketch detail of the folding mechanism

i think it wont be a lot of wear because there gonna be a folding mechanism so there will be no friction pressure when the motor isn't running.

Time will tell. I remember when I was a kit I had a bike light powered by similar system, dynamo light I think it is called. There for sure was wear on the side of the tire from all the friction but it was not too bad. But I could for sure see that after some time 1/2 of the sidewall was gone. I killed the tire before it wore through.

There are heavier treaded bike tires sold for this purpose, but they probably have to be ordered as they are not regular bike shop stock.
