Hi Guys,
Well i'm getting through the build of my HK450, its the V2 model (more metal on the head). I'm really struggling with the tail boom assembly, either the boom is too long or the belt is too short?? Anyone else having the same problem?
I think i'm gonna have to trim the tail down a bit (where the boom goes into the tail section) but before i do that has anyone else got a better fix?
cheers - Pat

does the boom go through the block? there is a small slit on the end of the boom and a coresponding nodch in the block...maybe you have it the wrong way around?

Hi Guys, thanks for the reply,
the boom passes through the main body block ok, i've made sure that the end with the small slit has gone into the block (and out the other side).
How far does the boom travel into the tail section?? there appears to be a 'notch' inside the tail box that stops the boom going in to far is this normal?
basicaly the belt stops approx 5mm short of the gear pulley. I don't want to put exessive force on the belt incase i damage something

Ok no worries here goes...........
the tail rotor housing has this 'notch' inside, as far as i can tell it looks like its stopping the tail boom going past this point. ![]() the tail boom has a slit at one end which i know is supposed to go into the main body housing, the other end of the tail boom is normal (no slit or holes.... etc) This is how far away i am from the gear pulley when assembled, the belt doesnt drop over the pulley, even under alot of tension ![]() I could understand it if the tail boom had slits at BOTH ends to accommodate the notch in the tail rotor housing, i might even consider making another slit on the other end of the boom ?????. try opening up the tailcase, take the part with the shaft still on it,put the belt on the pinion on both ends and try reassemble de tais case and see what it does |

As far as I can see it's not too long but if you think the tension will be to tight just grind the slot and you can push the tailbom a bit longer in.

its deceiving from the pic but if you pull the belt very tight (and i mean tight!!) it doesnt drop over the pulley, its not quite there.
I cant take apart the piece where the notch is, as its moulded one piece (where the tail boom enters the rotor housing).

Ok.....
I have cut away a small piece from the side of the tail boom, just where the notch lies and....... hey presto !! the belt fits fine. Luckily The tail boom was very easy to cut true and theres hardly any burring or frayed metal.
I did'nt want to go down that route incase i damaged/splintered the boom but i guess it was the easiest solution. This way I didn't need to shorten the tail boom length.
thanks again for all your replies, hopefully nobody ends up with the same problem!!
kind regards - Patmac
