    Posted: 27/Mar/2009 at 10:30am
Hello guys,

I have a  tURNIGY sentillion 100 and would like to connect to a 36V 10 AH ebike battery having 108 cells: because the ESC can just recognize around 10 cells is there a tip to allow esc accepting this ebike battery? or do I have to move toward a regular ebike controller ?(but my concern is with the biggest HXT I want to use a basic ebike controller will cutt off with this amount of power) I would appreciate any help, cheers.

What type of batteries are you using? 10 Lipo cells would be around 4.2v each for a total of 42 volts max. Under load averaging around 38 volts.

That would be a 12S3P pack and the ESC is rated for a 12S battery so I would think you would be ok. Not having the manual I don't know the parameters of the ESC when it comes to LifePo4 batteries, but one reviewer seems to have success with the LifePo4 batteries.

A123 LifePo4 Battery:

Nominal Voltage: 3.3v
Standard Charge: 10A to 3.6v
Max Charge: 10A to 3.6v
Max Discharge: 60A (Continuous)
Max Pulse Discharge: 120A (10sec)

From the product reviews:

sentillion 100 HV
mark New? I have 2 of them? I think they are newly available shipped from the US!! A aery good esc I have run on 14s A123s(equililent to 12 lipoly) and 60 or so amps and have never felt any heat come off of it. High switching speed also (used with ducted fan

Be aware that the max continuous discharge rate of that battery (as advertised) is 25 amps which equals 900 watts.
I've been looking for a battery for an ebike also but for a hub motor.
I'm going to move this thread to the DIY Forum where others are utilizing the HXT motors as well. If you haven't scanned through the DIY Forum, you'll find it interesting.
Best Regards

The ESC will let the motor take as much current as it wants/needs up to the limit of the ESC (100 amps). Notice that the battery wants a max of 360 watts drawn from it as it's a 360 watthour capacity battery (10a X 36v = 360 watts for 1 hour. The battery will put out double that wattage for a short time. 360 watts worth of power is all you're going to get out of it until it's completely discharged. And it's not advisable to discharge a battery more than ~50% although it may be slightly more with a LifePo4 without hurting it. If you draw the max continuous rating (25a/900 watts) from the battery, your ride will be about 20 minutes.

Now the HXT motor. It's rated at 6500 watts (8.7 horse power) at it's maximum output. If run at that output, the battery will be discharged in less than 1 minute. At 1,000 watts, the battery would be flat in about 3 minutes.
5 to 8 minutes is about all the flight time we normally get out of this motor on a full charge when using a 5000 mah battery and that's with throttle management.

As you can see, it's too much motor for that battery. The battery is more suited to a hub type motor of 300 to 400 watts in order to get any endurance out of it. OR, run the HTX at around 5 to 10 amps maximum or 180 to 360 watts.
So it depends upon whether you want to go as fast as possible in a short length of time, or do you want to take a leisurely ride 20 miles across the country side. You didn't say.

Battery

Fit 36V Motor Wattage: 100 Watt to 360 Watt.
250 Watt suggested.
Voltage: 36 Volts
Capacity: 10 Amp Hours
Charging Voltage: 46 Volts
Charging Current:
<5 Amps
Rated Discharging Amperage: 12 Amps
Max Continuous Discharging Amperage: 25Amps
Maximum Discharging Current: 50 Amps

Motor

Model: HXT80-100-B
Idle Current: 2A
ESC Required: 130A
Input Voltage : max. 48V
Kv : 130 rpm/V
Voltage Range: 20-48v
Non Load Current: 2.0A
Maximum Power: 6500W
Equivalent: 60-80cc Gas Engine

cs@hobbyking.com

Include your order number, any pertinent information and the details of how it burned up I guess. See what they have to say.
