Hello all together,
first of all sorry for my bad english

I am very new to the forum and also in the RC heli world. I wanted to ask you what is a good setup for beginners.

I have choose some stuff but did not really know if this stuff is good or what is a good servo:

- HK-250GT Electric Helicopter Kit http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9974 (i think bigger is not good for a beginner)

- Telebee Head Lock & Standard Gyro http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8471 (i even don't know what a gyro did)

- Rhino 1050mAh 3S 11.1v 40C Lipoly http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9608

- TURNIGY K-Force 40A Brushless ESC http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8922 (is this one necessary or did a cheaper one the same job)

- KD KA400H 3500kv brushles Heli Mot http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5245 (i choose this one because this one http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8144&Product_Name=Turnigy_2627_Brushless_300-Size_Heli_Motor_4200kv is not on stock)

- Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter Only (Mode 2) http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8992 (is this one really so bad???)

- Corona 2.4Ghz JR Module & Rx (V2 DSSS) http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7380(is this one compatible with the transmitter and is it good)

and also some extra stuff:

- HXT UBEC 5/6v output, 5.5~23v Input http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3735

- Turnigy 2 in 1 Professional Program Box for Brushless ESC http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8996

- Turnigy 1450mAh 3S 11.1v Transmitter Lipoly Pack http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9787

Actually bigger is better for a beginner especially if you will be flying outdoors.  The wind will not affect the larger heli as it would a smaller heli.  A smaller heli has a higher head speed which will make the heli move quite fast when you loose orientation or make a mistake.  Parts are cheaper for a smaller heli but the damage may be more extensive due to the high headspeeds.

A bigger heli is easier to see, has a lower head speed, is not affected by wind as much as a smaller heli.  Being that the headspeed is lower you have a little more time to react imo (in my opinion).  A bigger heli imo is just a more stable platform for a beginner to learn on.  The only down side is the cost just to get started, but if this is something that you really want to do it shouldn't be a problem.  I guess the bottom line is what can you afford to spend on this hobby?

The HK 500GT would be good, you would just need to change the tail rotor to a metal one.  HK has made it very affordable for beginners to get into this hobby and I applaud them.  I only wish that they were around with this heli when I started years ago.

I would highly suggest to get a simulator and practice on it.  Think of it this way, several crashes on the simulator and the simulator would have paid for itself and the best part is no repairs are necessary just press the reset button and you can fly again.  Once you master the flight sim flying a real heli would be easier.

Just my opinion,
Wayne

I started flying the 450 size, and did OK -no chrashes, and it is still flying.

-but if you have the few extra bucks, go for the 500 size (its much easyier to spot in the sky, when you start flying around).
