Bought this motor (NTM Prop Drive 35-48 Series 900KV / 815W http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=16231) for the ASW28 Glider.

Setup: 3300MAH 4S, Plush 60A, Folding Prop 12x8, flying weight 2.1kg

After many flights, the motor finally burned and melted (in the air).

Am looking at a replacement motor (Turnigy D3548/4 1100KV Brushless Outrunner Motor http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=18233)

The specs looks suitable for my setup.

My question is the 1100kv motor will match the 12x8 prop using 4S lipo?

A 12x8 prop is way to much on 4s for a 3548. You are drawing way to many amps that is why it melted. My 3548's running on 4s I spin a 10x5 and that puts it high in the amp range of its rating. Mine are several years old now and still going strong. Because I do not max them out.

You need to go to a lower KV motor. Then you can swing a larger prop on 4s without torching the motor.

Good luck.

The HK specs says Prop size: 11.1V/13x8 18.5V/12x6

12x6 on 5s.

I figure 12x8 should be fine for 4s.

very misleading spec on HK.
