Interesting topic. I've seen someone who had his garage burn down due to a lipo fire.

So you guys are talking about lipo errors. I have a Graupner Ultramat 17 with recommended balancer. Works like a charm, never had any problems so far.

However, it happened once or twice that the ESC had the cut-off value set to 2.85V. The motor slowed down, landed and when I got home the voltage was around 2.7V. I also changed the cut off value
I connected the battery via the balancer to the charger and it just wouldn't start charging. I checked the batteries again and the voltage was a bit less than 2.8V.

Being a little bit annoyed by this safety feature of the balance charger, I checked separate voltages and the battery was balancer. I directly connected the lipo to the charger and let it charge up to about 3.3V and then connected the battery to the balancer. All was well and it was fully charged to full capacity.

So, I know going below 2,6/2,7V (depending on manufacture) can damage the battery but it is still "OK" for one time.

My question would be, is it dangerous to keep on operating a Zippy battery that once went low as 2,7V or so?

As far as I know it's the TIME below <thresholdvoltage> that damages the LIPO.
Even though most people consider 3.0 the threshold, I think that technically the threshold might be a bit lower. Maybe only for some batteries.

So if you discharge to 2.7V and then quickly recharge to above 3.3, you're unlikely to seriously damage your LIPO.
