Wow red25, was that a lighting issue or is your Angry AXN actually painted in bloody-red?
copter, that just gave me a wicked idea! I will be open for more suggestions till the day I have the time for painting. Keep it coming, they are really interesting! |

Hello there! This is my first post here as I'm a complete noob on rc. Starting with an AXN in a couple of days.
Just what I had in mind for my AXN: fiber-glassing. Excellent job! And I also like the angry-birds color scheme suggested above.
One question: what kind of products you used for fiberglass? can you please post some pics? Or perhaps explain a little in detail the process? Thanks Edited by Alixx_pt - 20/May/2012 at 10:56pm |

Hello!
Thanks! I used the 18g/m2 FiberGlass fabric with FinishCure epoxy. The process is too complicated to simply talk about it. A properly edited instructional video is probably best. I'll try my best to make theoratical process simple to understand. Items required: 1. 18/m2 FiberGlass Fabric (x2) 2. FinishCure EPOXY or any other low-viscosity epoxy. 4. 3M 77 Adhesive Spray 5. SandPaper 350 to 600 grit 6. Sharp Scissors 7. Disposable Gloves for safe handling of EPOXY and FiberGlass 8. Mixing and Spreading equipment (Popcicle Stick and Spoon/Cup) Process: 1. Remove all electronics and disassemble AXN. 2. Wash up with degreaser or dish washing fluid. Sand down the AXN and wash it again! Wipe it down and leave it to naturally dry. 3. Once completely dry, spread out the fiberglass fabric and place a one-piece component of the AXN on it. Estimate the size and shape required to 'completely' wrap the fabric around the component(around each and every curves and edges) with an overlap of between 1 to 3cm. Then cut out the shape! Repeat this step for all components Making sure you use the fabric effectively with as little wastage as possible or else you will need a 3rd or more fabric for it. 4. Once you have cut the fabric for all components, spray one light and even coat of 3M-77 adhesive onto the component, let it dry for 30secs and carefully wrap your pre-cut fabric onto it. Do one component at a time and do not rush. 5. Once all components are nicely wrapped, prepare for EPOXY! Again, do this one component at a time and if the component is too large - spread the work into multiple portions. Do not mix too much epoxy at one go, it will thicken before you even have the time to spread it onto the fabrie properly. Once you have your small portion of epoxy mix ready, pour/drip everything onto the fabric and begin spreading the epoxy as thinly as possible. (Thick spread will increase overall weight significantly!) 6. Once done, hang it out to dry over two nights then finish off by trimming off any torns and sand it down to an even stable surface in prepration for paint! There are many methods of FiberGlassing and this is my method, works for me! |
