So I ordered this Opto Gas kill switch with the thought that this a nice feature for my gas planes. Well it is a nice feature, unless you read the instructions...

I installed it on my FW-190 with a 26cc XYZ engine, at home it all seem to work, however I didn't start the engine to check (live in an appartment my neighbours are not too happy when I start petrol engines in the hallway ). Last friday pulled everything out to the field to find out the engine wouldn't start

I had setup my ignition this way:
-supply with a 2S lipo
-ignition unit only survives 5V, so I have a VR (BEC...) to regulate the 2S to a nice 5V.
-I thought it would be best to have a manual switch in between the battery and VR. This way I can leave the LiPo connected and won't risk a leaking current draw.
-Opto Kill switch in beteen the VR and the ignition unit.

Shoot me, I never read the instructions nor the comments on the products page: the switch needs to have 6V to operate. So there was my nice switch powered by 5V only...

So the right setup will be:

2S Battery--manual switch--Opto Kill switch--VR--Ignition unit.

Also note that the power inputs as per the manual have a male plug on the input and a female on the out put, bnow most batteries come with a male plug as well. No need to swap around the connectors, just connect the battery male in to the female plug and vice versa for the output. It works in both ways.
A minimal technical knowledge is required for this hobby; please ensure you know the differences between up and down.
