I have no idea what motor they shipped my MX2 with since it had no markings (and it was not the dementions listed on the website), but the ESC cut out at 45A, crashed - bent my motor shaft. So I replaced the works with NTM Prop Drive Series 42-48 650KV, and a plush 80A ESC. You will need to replace the motor mount too if you use that motor. It has a 25mm bolt spacing. I've got a 15x8 APCe prop and the plane flies well for the first time. Its still super heavy, but now it has the power to deal with it.

I actually cut the old shaft off when it bent , drilled a hole in it on the lathe and made a small stepped recess in the back of the prop driver and put in an allen key headed bolt as a new shaft. Had to spin off most of the head of the bolt in the lathe as well to make it sit flush in the recess it is just a firm press fit. What I ended up with looked like a car valve stem with a thread on one end for the prop.
I originally tried theading the drilled hole and putting in a double ended stud but the tiny amount of runout created by the thread put it out of center. |

If you are looking at replacing motor, it may be worthwhile to see how mine turns out haha, I'll be the guinea pig. Should be here in a couple of weeks.

I bent my prop shaft on the stock motor, my brother is a fitter and turner, so he straightened it up quite well on the lathe. It'd be worth a shot if someone can do it cheap enough (or mates rates) and its not too bent. But if you need a new one, they are very hard to find. I couldn't.

Very hard to get hold of, you may be better to change the motor to the one sammy suggested , and grab a few spare prop drivers for it whilst you are at it .

I maidened mine last Saturday. While it flew beautifuly, the prop nut somehow came loose and I crashed nose-in on soft dirt. While damage was minor, I managed to bend the prop shaft. I can't find a replacement for the prop adapter here. Anyone know where you can get the part?

Kanga, yea I see the confusion
I meant the motor bigwes posted 'turnigy 3548 700 kv' was only rated to 45A, if I was looking at correct motor on hobbyking. I can't wait for new motor, hopefully will get shipped tomorrow, my order got stuck because of Chinese new year

To you Samm,
I read your post as you saying the stock esc is only 45 Amp. Quote: "You would exceed the current rating of 45A surely? Are you still using the stock ESC? " However perhaps you meant the motor would not take more than 45 amp
Would be interested in seeing how well your new motor goes as well, sounds like it could be a good replacement for the mx2. 'NTM Prop Drive Series 42-48 650KV I have been lucky so far . I was able to reglue the magnets in my original motor and they are holding good so far. Edited by kanga - 30/Jan/2012 at 5:18pm |
