I bought a little 4" shifter today but its pretty crap and cant turn the rear turnbuckles because there isn't enough room to get it in there.
I couldn't find any hobby kinfe at the hobby shop so I ended up using a old stanley knife to cut the body out.. its not the best job but Ill clean it up a little around the edges with some sand paper. If I ever do another one Ill make sure I have curved lexan scissors. You can see from some of the photos that right under the roof is where the antenna mounts and thats exactly where the ESC needs to sit. After the pictures I used the stanley knife to cut the mount flush. I also tried with some of the scrap lexan to poke holes through it with a soldering iron, it works but it goes black and thickens around the edges so that's a no go. The body wont sit this high obviously, the lip at the back will be under the rear wing and the bonnet/hood will be touching the front shocks. I used a dab of blue silicone on top of the posts where I was going to put the holes as I don't have any pens or markers. I was hoping to have the holes in it so I could paint it today but it looks like its a few days away till I figure out how to make the holes. Then I will have to figure out where/how to mount the antenna to make holes too. Getting there slowly though.

Nice work you have done there, Ezarc. I ordered the buggy and some spares along with it. Hope to get it in a week or two.

Nice, will you keep it stock or do you have other plans for it? I bought some rubber sealed bearings for the wheels today. 2 packs = 8 bearings for around $7 delivered. I didn't bother with the rear diff bearings as I dont know if they are exposed or not. Nothing got done to it today though. If my parcel is at the post office tomorrow Ill more than likely be taking it for its first drive if I can borrow a drill. |

I got the holes drilled out today.
The body doesnt fit as good as I thought it would, the front was fine but the back needs some velcro to keep the wheels away from the body, also the shock tower stops the lip at the end of the body from being able to fit under the wing.
Still not very much room inside, its hard to get battry wires in a good position without bending either the battery or ESC side but Ill figure something out.
I put it on the floor and thought I would just go back and forward a few times, I pressed forward slowly and it shot back in reverse, went backwards up the wall and did a double flip and landed upside down... Then I switched the Tx throttle to REV but then it just goes slow forwards and fast in reverse. I only had it going for about less than 10 seconds all up and stripped the spur gear but I'm 99% sure that's my fault for not having it meshed tight enough in the first place. The teeth were only about half overlapping and I was going to tighten it up before I took it for a proper drive but I suspect the sudden burst in reverse stripped it. I have spare spurs but I've had enough of it for today, tomorrow I might put one in and adjust it properly this time. |

you should also threadlock the motor mounting screw.
and if you are like me who loves making hard turns you should find a way to secure the e-clip on the rear tires. i put hot glue on mine. |

It had threadlock on the mount but I just tightened the motor in the mount before I put it in and didn't adjust it after I put it in there.
Do you mean the e-clip on the rear lower arms? |

Ran in to a speed bump, the grub screw isn't a normal size. I have 4 sets of allen keys all the 1.5mm are too small and 2mm too big. Same with the 1/16's all being too small and the 5/64 are too big.
I had the same problem with the grub screw on the pinion but got it down as good as I could before it started slipping and to no surprise thats already loose and slides up and down on the motor shaft. No idea if all 4 of my sets of allen keys from different makers are all wrong or if there is some retarded size like 1.75mm allen keys that I dont have. Ill put it back together before I forget where the screws go but that was a huge waste of time. I guess Ill buy a 5th set of allen keys tomorrow but they probably wont fit as everything is stupid sizes that I cant find anywhere on this thing.

I bought 2 more sets of allen keys today (different brands again), neither set works. I think I'll pack it up and put it away until I have patience for it again.

Crikey Ez , sorry to see you are having so much trouble with that bugger of a grub screw ,
I have this set Electronics screwdriver set and I havent come across a model part it didnt fit , cars ,helis, and all the other fiddly little jobbies , you might find something similar locally , the brand is Jackly and has the following sized bits T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10, T15, T20, T25, M2.6, PH2, PH1, PH0, PH00, PH000, Triangle 2.3, Triangle 2.0, Triangle 3.0, Triangle 2.5, Triangle 2.0, Triangle 1.5, H0.9, H1.3, H1.5, H2.0, H2.5, H3.0, H4.0, Y0, Y1, Star 1, Star 2 As you can see the Hex's are very small at it fits all motor grubscrews I have come across , the kit is cheap but of a pretty good quality too ! You might find , instead of a Hex it might take a torx bit? Edited by trumpy - 09/Oct/2011 at 10:17am |

Trumpy!
Does anybody know how to cancel a bid on e-Bay? I put in a bid for a “Cowboy Outfit” and it seems I’m only six minutes away from owning the Australian Labor Government ! |
