In this topic I try to show the changes made in my HK500GT helicopter to fly without the stabilizer bar (flybarless), which is done electronically only by Flymentor.

We are constantly faced with fall, crash, and consequently the repair and replacement of parts damaged.

In one of my first crash, caused a little twist at the base of ROTOR HEAD, and also damages nearly all parts and components of the stabilization system (flybar).

After spending a lot of money replacing them with new parts, I threw the damaged parts in my junk box for future use.

Recently I bought Flymentor, and installed in the same helicopter, but with all original parts and component system of the stabilizer bar (flybar).

The addition of the stabilizing system guaranteed by Flymentor (electronic), plus the mechanical system of the stabilizer bar, no doubt form a perfect symbiosis, it seemed until I was driving a coaxial helicopter.

The stabilization system of the tail rotor made by Flymentor is the best I've ever tested, and also does not depend on the quality of the tail servo.(any fast servo, in the range of $20 works great).

After a few flights, I decided to remove the stabilizer bar and feel like the helicopter would behave.

After removing the entire stabilizer bar system , the problem, I can not link the swashplate to the main rotor grip because of the long distance.

So I decided to open my junk box, and use the ROTOR HEAD previously damaged at the base, reducing it by using a metal saw cutting the damaged base.

Unfortunately it was not enough, so I decided to also decrease the main shaft.

I forgot to comment on the previous posts that this is the typical solution to the poor man, and of course, if you wish to pay about $ 70 for a complete system http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10808__500_Flybarless_rotor_head_upgrade_assembly.html, you will not find any work or problem.

To engage the swashplate to the main rotor grip, I used two plastic ball link with a total length of 46mm.

If you've noticed, can seem strange, but in this helicopter model I not use the Swoshlocker Arm.

The arrastre and rotation of the swashplate is made directly by the plastic links that are attached to the main rotor grip with screws 30mm long, a spacer and three locking nuts.

The lack of security by the absence of swoshloker should be considered. Despite this, I've done over 50 flights with this system and never broke, but you must constantly check their status.

Thanks for the write up and pictures.
I have one of the kds units arriving tomorrow and was wondering if I could use it for my 450 2 blade fbl and 4 blade heads. seems it works well i will give it a try
NEVER under any circumstances take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

The linkage is one of the most important parts in this project.
As well as providing the adjustment of blade pitch, she is also responsible for promoting the drag of the swashplate, and all the clearances should be minimal to avoid bending.
The linkage used to attach the blades, was improvised from the
Standard Bearing Joints 2.8x22x5.5mm
And on the side of the swashplate was made using the
HK-T500 Ball Link w / Rod Limkage.

It is true that I am not an experienced pilot, but this video shows the stability of the system, and the tail is securely locked. (Flight Training)

I think the biggest advantage of using this system is the cost of exchange of parts, in most accidents it takes only with replacement blades, and plastic linkages.

In this video, shows a crash (small accident) in which the blades just touch the ground causing the breakdown of the linkage of one side.

SETTING THE MECHANICAL PARTS, THE RADIO AND THE FLYMENTOR

After we built the linkages, now is the time to adjust the center point of the servers, the swashplate and the main blades.

At this stage we will not use the Flymentor (keep it stored).

This is very important:

  • The Flymentor dont need the proportional swashplate mixer provided by the radio, and so, if he receives this values he will works in a wrong way.

  • For example, the radio setup for helicopter, usually comes preprogrammed with 60%/60%/60% for mixer values of the ELEVATOR/PITCH/AILERON.

  • If your radio dont supress this features, search and change in your radio the swash type, from [3 servos 120o] to [1 SERVO 90o].
Connect the SERVOS to the receiver, disconnect the engginne and power ON the system.

  • With all sticks on the center (pitch too), adjust all servos to the center of their excursion. Remember you will lose the synchronous movement of ELEVATOR/PITCH/AILERON, this movement will be recomposed by the flymentor.

After this steps, lets install the Flymentor.
