I would launch full throttle for any edf jets big enough to be hand launched, whether 3s or 4s++
Always worked for me. Full throttle.. Then toss under 30 degrees upwards.. Always successful 100 percent. |

KaosKane, ooo you'll love the CS 10 blade 70mm fan unit! Mate, is your 3000mah 5S causing your Meteor to be nose heavy? What is the stalling characteristics like?
copter, my stinger had significant torque roll issues when launched with WOT, had a better experience tossing it hard into the air appox 40degrees up with 3/4 throttle and a nicely timed increment to WOT. Bit tricky. spitty, now that I think of it, is there any particular reason why you bungee launch yours? For a rather handy 64mm jet, many would prefer hand launching it. I would bungee it just to ease the torque rolling, mine had rolled nearly inverted if tossed slightly off perfect. |

only tried bungie becasue the perons who was throwing it had a girls chuck and each time it nosed in.
Then we launched from a bungie and it nosed in also. I 30deg chuck works a treat if thrown properly |

KaosKane, tell me your experience and technique of how you did your hand-launch for your Meteor! Torque Rolls? WOT-and-Toss?
By the way, you haven't replied to my question regarding your Meteor's CG. Was it significantly nose heavy with that 5S 3000mah pack or does it felt balanced? I am now deciding on a list of 4S and 5S lipo packs that would be suitable for the SportJet carrying basic FPV equipment. |

Launching is the easy part. i just hold it behind the main wings got to WOT hold it back a second or two then toss it like a dart at 35deg angle. With a 5 cell u could just hold the jet pointing up and got to WOT. (in the video you can see most of the the launch ok.)
I have not noticed much torque roll with the giant stinger lol The ailerons are 1mm away from dead flat and this stops any TR. On the battery tray there are foam protrusions for the 4 cel battery to fit between it stops the batt sliding in flight. and gives correct CG. For the 5 cell batt I moved it rearwards by 4cm or so. The rearmost foam bit was 1/3 of the way down the battery for correct CG i had to put another velcro strap behind the glued in battery tray. You could fit a little didgicam in the canpoy area no worries. As for the FPV idea i do not have the experience to advise. One thing i can say is there is plenty of room for the batt to be moved even furher back in the jet so u should be able to get balance even with moderate weight at the front ;} HTH ps in my last hard landing the pilot came loose inside the canopy he now moves all over the cockpit and lands the plane while uside down
pps i will get a 10 bladed fan very soon Edited by KaosKane - 11/Feb/2012 at 11:40am |

HA! That last part about the tumbling pilot cracks me up. Thanks for the response. I shall now do some calculations to figure out if the SportJet is worthy to handle additional load of Fiberglass, 5S and FPV.
Do you think your Meteor can handle more payload with minimal loss of flight performence? Are you able to cruise at half throttle with that 5S pack? |
