It is with great pleasure that I announce:
Robot Serial Killers - Robot Combat at Serial Space, Sydney!
What are combat robots? They're radio controlled machines designed and built to fight one another in a specially designed bulletproof arena. Believe it or not, most bots use mostly run-of-the-mill RC components (radio gear, lipo batteries, brushless motors, servos etc) just arranged 'creatively' in a homebrew chassis. Brushless attached to sawblade, anyone? And why post this event on hobbyking's forum? Well, the robots in our club are constructed from 90% hobbyking parts! From the radio gear to batteries, brushless motors and esc's. Almost every part of the bot we source from here. The sport has grown so much more accessible and affordable over the years thanks to hobbyking! On Sunday the 14th of August Serial Space will host Antweight and Beetleweight class robots from around Australia. In addition to live combat throughout the day there will also be several larger robots on display so come along to check out this unique sport! Anyone can get involved, for more information head HERE. I'll keep this thread updated with more info as the date grows closer. Any questions please feel free to post/ PM me. Cheers guys! |

Ashtray + teeth made from a metal ruler + hobbyking guts = A tiny shell spinner robot! Check out the fight VIDEO A knife is a perfectly acceptable weapon, and a drink bottle makes perfect lightweight armour! Any questions? Fire away!

I've made a post in DIY in the past about how to modify the servos for 360deg rotation, and one of my friends has developed a method of reprogramming brushless esc's into brushed forward/reverse controllers well suited to robots. These things usually cost $30 or more so to modify a $6 hobbyking esc to do the same if not better, it's awesome!

can't you make a guide of how to reprogram the esc and how to make the servo into a 360 motor. I need to build one of these small mosters after seing this thread :)

They are both already linked in the DIY section. However robowars.org/forum or wiki.robowars.org is probably a better place for info.

The event is now 60% funded but still lots more to go, here's some resources on how easy it is to make a competitive robot:
How to build a beetleweight robot Modifying tg9e or similar servos into gearmotors Reprogramming brushless esc's into brushed robot escs As always, check out the main event page on pozible for any more info! Edited by dyrodium - 13/Jul/2011 at 11:27am |
