I BOUGHT TWO 90-100A SS ESC FOR MY HUSBAND FOR A PROJECT HE IS WORKING ON.HE TRIED PROGRAMMING THE FIRST OFF A 12V LEAD ACID BATTERY AND FRIED IT. THE SECOND HE USED A 6V BATTERY CHARGER AND WAS ABLE TO PROGRAM IT EVEN WITH THE BEEPS BEING VERY SOFT.ONCE HE EXITED THE PROGRAM MODE AND TRIED TO RUN THE CONVERTED CAR ALTERNATOR IT WOULD TURN FOR ABOUT 7SECONDS AT ABOUT300RPM THEN STOP UNTIL HE WENT BACK DOWN WITH THE TROTTLE.THEN HAPPEN AGAIN EACH TIME.MY QUESTION IS COULD THE SENSORLESS ESC BE LOOKING FOR  FEEDBACK THAT IT RECOGNIZES AND NOT SEEING IT? THE ALTERNATOR IS 14 POLE WYE CONNECTED WITH CONSEQUENTIAL POLE CONNECTION(7 POLES ALL OF THE SAME POLARITY THAT CREAT OPPOSITE POLES INBETWEEN THEM)

Yes it could be this , even sensorless have magnets that pulse the esc to some voltage. the esc is a Brushless dc motor not for a ac motor. it may also be the esc is looking for the motor to start and reduce the current needed. after 7 sec it cuts of to protect the ESC.

THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION.I AM EXCITING THE FIELD SO IT SHOULD NOT KNOW IF THE CEMF IS COMING FOR PERMENANT MAGNETS OR ELECTRO- MAGNETS. I ALSO READ THAT  A WYE CONNECTION TENDS TO FIGHT ITSELF.I MIGHT TRY CHANGING THE CONNECTION TO DELTA. ARE MOST OF THE COMMON RC BRUSHLESS MOTORS CONNECTED WYE OR DELTA?THIS IS MARY'S HUSBAND.I HAD NO PURCHASES CAUSE SHE HAS THE PAY PAL ACCOUNT EBAY YA KNOW. THANKS AGAIN DYNAMO DAVE

Hi Magnetic Mary
Yes you will have to change the windings from star (wye) to delta.
Also with the field winding the more power appied to it the more torque it will have but the RPM will be lower, so to go faster you lower the power applied to the field and the RPM will increase, this can be done with high power resistors or variable type power supply.
From memory the field will draw less than 3 amps.
Hope this will help your project.

THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION THE FIELDS ARE BEING EXCITED WITH 2.4AMPS THAT I AM GETTING FROM TAPPING OFF ONE OF THE 12VOLT BATTERIES AND RUNNING IT THROUGH A 1.82 OHM IGNITION COIL RESISTOR.ONE MORE QUESTION WHEN I PLUGGED IN MY NEWEST ESC TO THE SERVO TESTER I PLUGGED IT IN UPSIDE DOWN. I FOUND MY MISTAKE AND TURNNED IT BACK OVER BUT NOW AFTER THE THIRD PROGRAM MODE THE TONES GO WEIRD. DID I HURT IT? GUESS I DID NOT DO IT ANY GOOD.

Thank you . I still have some tunning to do and I need to come up with a better test jig. I am running it 15 degrees now I will try 30 and see if that is better. The speed is also slow I am guessing around 600rpm I will change the cell count and try 24 volts.Hoping the blue smoke does not happen again.
