Hi all Quad builders ! I have a little problem powering my new quad which has the HK board. I have hook up the Turnigy RX to the board using Aileron 3 pins , the rest of the 3 using only the signal wire. The ESC 1 connects the UBEC to the board and not using red wires for the other 3 ESC's. When i connect the 3S battery i get the confirmation sound from all ESC's that it is 3S but nothing else happens, just one flash of red light on the board , that's it ... no motors turning at all. No flashing light on the HK board. Am i missing a step somewhere ?? It is like the board is dead. Any troubleshooting tips ? I am using the board as is from the box with + configuration , so i did not touch the software of the board. I think am i hooked up right, maybe need some settings to be adjusted, please help !!

Have you armed the board (low throttle + right rudder)?

I did not try that, i will try, i am trying to follow instructions i downloaded from this site about the HK board. Is it a step we have to do everytime we power up the quad ?

Good it's working ! Why don't they put that in the first step to do ? Thanks Fred. Now when i move throttle up slowly , the motor 4 start first, then #1 , then #3 and lastly #2. Should they all start at the same time ?

They should start not too far apart. If you have ESC's where throttle range can be calibrated, you should do so, to make sure the motors spool up and increase RPM equally.

Here is s better manual: RCExplorer. Note that prop directions (the correct one) is the opposite of the ones in the HK manual. That means that when following the HK manual, yaw has to be reversed, which again means that it will arm with yaw stick to the left (after reversing the channel on the Tx).

The arming thing is a safety feature, and has to be done after each powerup.

Fred

Thanks Fred for the link ! My motors turn CCW on 1 and 4 and CW on 2 and 3 , and i arm with throttle to the right and disarm to the left. I'm using Turnigy9X radio. After i calibrated the throttle range, it is better, but still starting one after the other. I made my first small flight, just lifted about 2 inches to see what it does. It turns on itself clockwise a bit and drift to the left. At least i got it to fly, now need adjusting !! Thanks

Another question, When they say that the gyro are calibrating when throttle is move forward but motors not running, is there a way to see if they calibrate , how long it takes ? Do we have to calibrate using the throttle and pitch stick ?

Well, that means that you must reverse the yaw, and probably the yaw gyro too, unless you change all the prop directions. When setting up the quad, it's best to remove all props. Then test the stick functions and gyro compensations.
For yaw, when you move stick to the left, or rotate the quad CW by hand, the motors rotating CW should speed up and the other way around.
For roll and pitch gyros, When you tilt the quad to the front, back or sideways, the motors going down should speed up if pitch and roll gyros work OK.

I haven't heard of calibration of gyros.

So basically you are saying that the HK board documentation is wrong ! Is there a difference to have 1-4 CCW and 2-3 CW , and the other way around ?? The KK board documentation shows reverse from HK ... Which one is the best setup ? Now my Quad is unstable, very hard to control. How much trim is normal ?

Use the HK manual to light your barbecue.

If you follow the KK manual step by step from start to finish you will have a quad that will actually fly under your control.

Yes, but as I tried to explain in my previous posts, the only difference is that yaw has to be reversed in Tx and gyro. And after doing so, the arming direction changes too.
Prop direction only affects torque (yaw).
