RC Sailboat Surmount

RC Sailboat Surmount

RC Sailboat-Surmount
A beautifully crafted R/C sailboat, fully built and ready to run.
All required items are installed, including mainsail winch, steering servo and all rigging, sail and hardware. All you need to do is add your own receiver and battery!
Boat hull is based entirely on an ocean going racing yacht and moulded in fibreglass with a perfect gelcoat and enamel painted finish.
Dont be mistaken in thinking these boats are slow and boaring. In a stiff breeze they can be extremely quick and perform turns rapidly, proving to be very exciting.

Thanks to all for answering me however I do note have a rubber plug but I see what I can do thanks again too all very much appreciated

Pierre,
This hole is about 1mm diameter. Than you can use a little of a rubber ring - those used to hold paper in office - certainly you will find one around at your home. Felix

I'd love to have this boat, but I have a question .. Two of my friends have bought this product but why not the same with the picture attached? Main mast come with black color and quality of main mast looked not as good as it looks in the picture.

I got the suremount sailing boat for Christmas and I found that the boat has an approx 1 mm hole at the back of the boat I am afraid that when I try it in water' water will get in the boat. Do I need to close the hole thanks
 Niels 5 points
That is on purpose. It is used to empty the boat if there is a little water inside after sailing (could from the holes to the lines that pulls the sails). You should have a rubber plug in the box. Also it is always a good idea to have a sponge in the bottom of the boat to collect excess water.

a 2.4ghz 2 cha transmitter and receiver any thing from 4.8 v - 6 v will do fine and a 1500mah will be plenty as this will use very little energy .

Question on Pietenpol Aircamper 'kit' in my logo... RCM Plan service has the plans for 3 different Pietenpols. We actually helped the lads build a full size one.. Lots of little problems, build a model.. More fun.

What would be the cost of a radio system and receiver battery?
 Matsanga 4 points
Hobbyking do a car/boat transmitter and battry for only $17 which I thought was amazing value. The battery would be a receiver battery nimh 4.8volt I think they are. It would power the receiver and servo. Looks like a great boat.
Ritter  1 points - 8/14/2012

Despite the instructions I managed to get the boat together as its pretty intuitive (I think). But I am an extreme newb- what battery and charger is recommended? Also the antenna module has a red sleeved connection that looks like there should more antenna fitted to it to run up the mast- should there be?
 smmankad 1 points
usually antennas (even ones with sleeves) are sufficient for proper operation.

where to buy the spare part ?
HK only sell servo for sailboat.

Is there anyone who have the mounting instruction that comes with the boat in English, or know where to find it? I bought my boat from the European warehouse, but it only came with German instructions...

 Nitram 34 points
4,8 V - 6 V is www.link V is much faster, I have tested it and I use a 5 cell NiMh 1300 2/3 Sub reciver pack. It have enougth power for up to 5h sailing.

the bulb on my yacht seems to be heavy and solid, what are they like on this site.
gaybaz  4 points - 4/28/2011

how do you fill the keel with lead shot it heavy and seems solid
 Phill63 136 points
Use lead shot and keep tapping the bulb as you fill it. You should get around 800 to 900 gramms that way.
 Nitram 34 points
I filled it with lead-shots, but I can only get arrount 800gr of 2,5mm lead-shots in it. I think I will fill it up with epoxy, so that the remaining flotation of the air will get less.
mbidey  3 points - 12/30/2010

Hai friends, I filled lead in the bullet, weight only 1.1kg. Is it okey to sail this boat.
 Ignacio 77 points

Thanks friend, such a good idea, I change the lead and now it's weight 1.3kg.

are those servos digital or normal servos because if they are digital i have to buy a whole new transmitter an dthats pretty expensicve for me greetings from holland
 Hansc 373 points
these are normal ones. You have to add your own receiver and connect these servo's using standard jr 3 wire servo connectors.
shaggybirdman  37 points - 8/28/2009

Length : 800mm = 31.49"
Height : 1520mm = 59.84
Weight : 1.4kg = 3 lb
Area of Sails : 0.25m2 = 387.50 sq"
Ballast weight: 1.3kg = 2.86 lb

hope this helps the US sailors.

Sugestion: If you fill molten lead in the hole on top of the keel bullet and fill it with molten lead, the bullet will be damaged because it is made of fiberglass, and there will be some air on top.

The way around this is to plug the existing hole on top of the bullet, and drill a hole in the front or back of the bullet. Then put the bullet 3/4 of the way in water lengthwise to keep it cool, and fill with molten lead a litle at a time. This eliminates most of the air in the bullet and keeps it cool enough to prevent damage. It allows you to put more than 1.3 kilos i the bullet.
 Moggs 25 points
Have been sailing with as much lead as bullet holds...
Blows down when wind gusts strong, milder conditions sails nicely indeed. Stronger winds downwind, sail each side, goes fast no nose dip like some yachts.. Now a solid lead bullet.. Hmmm

31 thumbs up!
Today I received the order and summarize their quality:

- Packing medium quality
- Quality of screw bad
- shaft screw of the flap comes last
- rudder servo very bad
- The mast comes with thread past few screws
- The only good news is that the case is fiberglass but with a very thick layer of gel-coat "brittle"
- Out of lead from the bullet

Overall quality "Chinese" seems more a toy than a quality RC boat.
Need a few hours to adjust the pieces correctly.

I would be more accurate in my review on this product. I could compare it with other boats from other best-known brands such as Kyosho. Packing: medium quality (nothing broken). Hull: Good Quality, made in fiberglass, but with a very thick gel-coat (it is brittle).
Candles: good material but with an average quality of construction.
Servos: Quality medium. The rudder servo is really bad.
Bullet and rudder: medium quality. The screw to hold the bullet and the screw to attach the wing to the hull are really bad. I recommend putting a brass tube in the axis of the rudder. (It comes too easily).
Screws Mast: It was easily oxidized (little Chinese steel hardness very bad)
Mast: Anodized aluminum (anodized medium quality) has a few dark spots. Some screws on the mast are threaded past.
Crib: Made with medium quality wood (probably “ayus”). Need a good coating and It is some small.
Final opinion: If you want to start a boat without spending much money is good. If you are a professional’s hobby man needs to spend some hours to review and adjust some parts.

Me gustarías ser más preciso en mi revisión sobre este producto.
He podido compararlo con otros barcos de otras marcas más conocidas como Kyosho.

Embalaje: calidad regular aunque no viene nada roto.

Casco: Calidad buena, hecho en fibra de vidrio pero con una capa muy gruesa de gel-coat (es algo quebradizo).

Velas: buena tela pero con una construcción de calidad media.

Servos: Calidad regular, el de dire

Really, What is not to like about this?
Fiberglass hull, strong yet light, servo's installed and fast delivery.

Will try it this weekend, would really want to order more sails for various conditions.

5 thumbs up!
I am a model aircraft enthusiast and am not experienced with the ships.

For a few days I received it and already I have it mounted.

It came quite in good condition, except the table of servos that had become detached. A bit of epoxi and I list.

I have filled the keel ballast with lead shot and they have entered 715 grams.

For lack of testing navigation, I feel very satisfied with the result.

I think that it is an advisable purchase

I have built and sailed this boat for several months in sea water and must say I am very satisfied with it, even in hard wind. It is easy to manover. All servos work well, and it is easy to trim the sail.
The keel has enough weight, 1.3 kg. I filled up the keel bubble with melted lead.
There is only one thing to complain about. The screws and hardware should be stainless steel, or something that resists rust.
