How long is long? I ordered and paid for 2 of these just over 60 days ago and there is still not even a glimmer of hope of them even being produced yet! I am building something that will take 2 of these motors and this company has just about done there dash, as i was looking for an ongoing suplier of at least 1000 of these in the first year. From what i have read below, it seems i would do well to go else where anyway. Maybe Hobby King could at least send a email after say, 50 days, to let you know weather or not they are actually going to fill the order in the same year.

Large rear beaing is a 45x58x7mm bearing while others (2) are 12x21x5 bearings. You can easily find these on VXB**** or any other bearing site (buy ceramics if possible... worth the $)

OK, here's the issue with this motor design. Firstly, the winding job on the stationary stator is lets say... "horrible". Yeh it works but the loosely wound windings causes high inefficiencies. Secondly, there is an obvious issue with the main rear bearing. Many have complained about the bearing grinding. It has nothing to do with bad bearings... the isue is how the bearing is mounted. The large bearing (outside race) in pressed into a nicely milled aluminum star-mount which connected the large bearing to the rotating part of the motor (can with magnets). This aluminum stat-mount is milled with a slightly smaller hole (58mm) than the bearing needs so when it is pressed in at the factory, it squeezes the bearing, causing issues. On top of this, this bearing/mount assembly is them pressed onto the end of the stationary stator. The other issue is that this end of the stator is anodized gold... and this anodization (adds thickness) causes the inside bearing race to also be squeezed/expanded, causing further bearing issues. I purchased new bearings and before installing, I milled (few thousanths) out the inside of the aluminum star mount so the large bearing easily presses into the mount, and additonally I carefully sanded off most of the anodization on the stator end so this also easily pressed inside the bearing assembly. I finally assembled it all last night and all I can say is WOW... what a difference! Testing is pending but I am certain this is the main problem with this motor. I hope this helps them fix the issue because for the price, you can't go wrong! Hope this also helps others fix their own motors if they feel inclined to do so.

Is the actual bearing size 45x58x7mm? The diagram above shows the diameter labeled "C" as 55mm. How can a bearing with a 58mm od fit inside 55mm?

Oh and good luck finding a ceramic version of the 45x58x7mm bearing... I found one that is $140... I opted to just buying a simple replacement (stainless) on Ebay for $15 delivered (also got two of the other smaller bearings for $10 total) so for $25 and a little work, you should be able to fix your own motor if you experience this issue.

1/4 Spit InstGot it fitted in a /4 scale Spit. Weight @ 15kilos. Using a Jeti Spin 200. Has double power connections, so easy to connect 12S 2PTested on a 24 X 12 prop, gives over 6000rpm on the ground. This is as powerful as an 80cc 3W inline twin petrol. Current is about 125A max

Spit maiden was fantastic!! flew for * 6mins. Came down with more than 60% left in the flight packs. As for the motor, total cr...p as far as I am concerned. Back bearing is wrecked, grinding & useless. As a model engineer with over 30 years flying experience, I wouldnt buy another Turnigy if you paid me!!

Well, feel lucky to get a flight out of yours... after 1/2 hour of ground testing, the rear bearing started making noise and eventually failed (hard grinding). What a POS! These bearings should not fail like this... sounds like a bad batch or they are being damaged as they are being assembled. I hope HK does not sell any more of these until they fix the known problems everyones been experiencing. Now what am I to do with this motor? How do I now get a replacement or get it fixed??? BTW, the large rear bearing is made in China while the remaining bearings are from Thialand.

This is a powerful motor for the price, but there are some things you should know. The bearings say China right on them, not Japan. The shaft will try to pull out when you tighten your prop. This puts massive load on the rear bearing and it will fail (explode). I thought I had mine running without binding and it still blew up the rear bearing. That bearing is a size I couldn't find for less than $50, so I will make it fit a larger one.
If anyone has an idea how to get the stator off the bearing tube, I'd love to know it! I want to rewind it, but haven't been able to get it apart so far.

Forgot to mention I ran 14s with Jeti spin200 controller. It was really nice before the bearing problem. Super smooth and easily flew a 42% Nemesis pylon racer.

If you have access to a lathe, you can make a spacer to slip over the shaft between the front and rear bearings, this will tke the axial load off the bearings and solve the bearing problem. I measured my motor and I needed to make a spacer that was 57mm long. This is an obvious design flaw that Turnigy should pick up on and correct on future motors to prevent premature bearing failures.

Has anyone had issues with the 12MM prop nutt? Mine appears to be the wrong threat pitch and i cannot seem to find a replacement at the HW store. M12 with a 1.75 pitch does not work... Seems to be a 2.0 pitch but I cannot find a 12M 2.0. Help?

G'day mate, mine is very tight, the only nut that fits is the one that it came with, you'll need a M12 x 1.75 metric die nut to run down the thread.

Got mine today. I have had some good successes with all sizes of Turnigy Motors (only one duffer). Compared with the 80-85, this motor is assembled quite differently. The outer casing, as you can see, is secured with a number of countersunk screws around each end. This allows the prop to load against a most massive rear bearing, about 2" in diameter. The 80-85, when the prop is tightened compresses the rotary drum against the front motor bearing, causing it to bind. (in other words, **** design!) I think that Turnigy have finally realised that some of us put large propellors on their motors, and tighten them up with a spanner! This one is going into a 1/4scale 35 pound Spitfire, using at least 12S.2P battery pack. I may even go 14S,if the motor will stand it. I think Jeti Spin 200 is the reliable way to go

I have a Jeti Spin 200 for mine. HC, IMHO, don't really have a suitable unit to do justice to this motor. I have only been able to run a quick test of my setup (to go in a 1/4 scale Spitfire)so I cant say anything except it performs as expected. A full test will be made when I get the right prop

Voltage or volt E or V = 48.0 volts (V) Amperage or current I = 145.8 amperes(A) Resistivity or resistance R = 0.329 ohms () Wattage or power P = 7000 watts (W) I don't think the resistance of this motor is 17 ohms. At 48v, It takes 145 Amps to push the .329 ohms to 7000 Watts. At 48 Volts with 17 ohms gives you 135.5 Watts and 2.82 amp draw.
