Speedy composite EP Performance Glider 1600mm (ARF)

Speedy composite EP Performance Glider 1600mm (ARF)

The Speedy is built for....you guessed it....speed! The nicely made composite fuselage has a deep gloss finish with ply servo and battery trays pre-fitted, the removable 1 pc wing is balsa construction as is the horizontal stabilizer & elevator.

The simplicity of this model, combined with the high level of pre-fabrication means that the Speedy is a quick build, fitting the power train will really be the most involved part of the assembly. The Speedy is also in-expensive to build, requiring only 3 servos and running on a common 2200mAh 3s Lipoly (not included).

With the right motor, the speedy will provide hours of high speed fun, being composite/balsa it should also last for years to come and it wont have cost you an arm and a leg! Practical and inexpensive are not words often associated with high performance models, the Speedy is the exception to the rule!

whether the plane's wings are covered in plastic?
kyylik  18 points - 4/9/2013

when I put the plane, Turnigy 450/500 H2223 Brushless outrunner 4400KV, the body suffers from such a speed?stupid question but there is a possibility that the wings snapped off? (100-120km / h)
GRM03  1 points - 4/8/2013

HobbyKing can you please get som to the AUS warehouse ASAP so I can order ?

Does this plane thermal well?looking for glider kt can speed n thermal.
trog100  24 points - 3/15/2013

just got mine today.. it looks very pretty but too light weight to be considered a hot liner.. its quite clearly intended for small high revving 28 sized motors.. talk of 35/48 motors is wishful thinking without a wing rebuild.. the vertical fin is also out of alignment as has been mentioned by others.. folks looking for real speed should maybe look for something else.. but for what it is its a nice little thing..
crypro  16 points - 10/24/2012

I have a 60A ESC and want to fly it on 3s - 4s , can someone recommend a foldable prop size for the recommended 480L V-Spec Inrunner 2150kv motor? Has someone bought the same?
 crypro 16 points
No, it was a 50A ESC 4S....
DriesRC  285 points - 8/18/2012

Is this plane a hotliner? can it glide very fast after a high speed dive? and does it perform wel in thermals? I'm really looking for a cheap hotliner, but I have to be sure it flies fast, but it also needs to have good slow flying performance. I have a turnigy D3542/5 1250kv brushless motor, no prop yet. would that motor fit?
 yongteck78 11 points
this should be a good to start with since it is not very expensive. i got 1 but had a mid air collision few weeks back. I have ordered another and intend to put a D3542/5 1250kv to it. 35" motor should fit just nice.
Aerolux  23 points - 5/12/2012

When i give full throttle on my Speedy Glider, he climb himself 90°*. I think the firewall is not well made ? I try to set a washer behind the wirewall and inrunner motor but no result.
 yongteck78 11 points
trim your elevator it should fly level at half or slightly more than half throttle. When cut throttle, it should not dive, if it does, u need more down trust angle. Also check your CG make sure it is correct. CG should be abt 65-70mm from the wing leading edge.
 Aerolux 23 points
Ok, thanks, i think the plane is overmotorised
Ek-trician  308 points - 2/12/2012

Can you fit a 35-36mm outrunner in this? I have a GL25 I want to use.
 Norice 53 points
This Plane designed suit for 540 brush motor. And now you can set upto 3548 size brushless. I think 3542(150g) or 3548(180g) will suit. 3536 is not so bad but little tail heavy.

 Ek-trician 308 points
I meant a 35-36mm diameter. The Turnigy G25 is a 3555, it's suppose to be a replacement for a .25 glow engine. It's built very strong and heavy. More power than a 3548, but heavier at 186g. It's 870kv so I was going to put a big prop with a high pitch so it can climb well on 3S LIPO.
 Norice 53 points
I understand. TGY EasyMatch G25 is just size. and high pitch prop is a good choice. Because big prop and Low RPM makes slow airflow. Slow airflow not suit for narrow wing. You should better use high pitch prop and get fast airflow.

On the website I can see 3 aircraft called Speedy, all very similar and similar price. What's the difference between them? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/images/em_r
olleyes.gif
 srepfler 1120 points
Actually two ( third is different warehouse same model), GL-Speedy and this one. Very similar, size, specs, ... This one is simpler (one part wing), but although is cheaper package weight is bigger so at the and they cost the same ( almost). Here they recommend inrunner ( more expensive) on GL 28 size brushless, here standard servos (cheap) GL slim (expensive). This is actually flyfly model ( package in nice box with picture). I choose this one over GL because of simple wing mounting.

Thanks for that!
 Ek-trician 308 points
Are you saying the airfoil section is thicker on this glider, or? You said you have to use slim servos for the other glider and std for this one? They state this is an RG-14, what dirt oil foes the other one have? I prefer thx one piece wing as well. I'll be putting a 3548 outrunner, inrunners are too inefficient!
Don Gato  1 points - 12/14/2011

Hello to all: What kind of motor you I need for this airplane? and what props to. Thank you for the answer.
 srepfler 1120 points
Some inrunner ( recommended ones are good), and foldable prop with appropriated shaft adapter size. You can put some smaller (28 size) outrunners also but inrunner is better match. Size of prop depend of motor/battery data, see recommended prop sizes for motor.
 __memx 8 points
i order turnigy 2200 motor(recomended one) 55a turnigy esc and i have 2200 turnigy and dualsky 3s batteries...which prop should i use??
i ordered TGS 11x8F Precision Folding propeller. is this prop ok with this system?? www.link
 srepfler 1120 points
It may be too big for 2200 kv motor, I can't find prop test data for that motor. See drivecalculator program and look similar motors, consider buying Power Meter for real data. Battery needs too have a high enough C rating to supply 500W ( depend on prop and motor) to motor.
 __memx 8 points
should i change my order??it is not send yet..i can still order smaller motor but they recommend that motor that is why i ordered it..but they dont advise any propeller size
 srepfler 1120 points
Don't change motor, it is strong motor, maybe get smaller prop, it is best to have more props and test it, if you have good spinner just put smaller fold prop. It might work with you order but with out test data can't be sure. Best to add more folding prop sizes to you order.
 __memx 8 points
ok i found calculater on the web and wrote down that motor propertis written on the site..here is the results
11x8- 82g thurst
12x6- 110g thrust
16x8 aerocam42mm-360g thurst
there is lots of different result what is the best thusrts??i think im going to order 16x8 prop as well
 srepfler 1120 points
Don't look just kv, you have up to 500W, you should get around 7x5 prop (estimate). And Amp pulling around 30 or more Amps. Compare with around 2200 kv 500w. Thrust shoud be over 1kg for that strong motor.
 __memx 8 points
amp?? you mean esc power? my esc is Turnigy dlux 55A SBEC Brushless Speed Controller. ok im going to add 7x4 and 7x5 props as well..cant find information about that motor on the net..found 7x4f but it is out of stock :( my spinner is www.link this motor good with this spinner??
 srepfler 1120 points
Shaft size must match, motor is Shaft diameter: 4mm so spinner should also be 4mm shaft. And diameter should be as front fuselage diameter. You ESC is good one.
 srepfler 1120 points
When you assemble plane, make test run see is it making enough thrust, is ESC to hot or only warm, how much battery test run discharged ( estimated flight time)...
 __memx 8 points
as i assemble and will inform you..i order recomended spinner and it says it comes with adapters for 2.3mm, 3mm & 3.17mm motor shafts. cant find 4mm shaft, hope 3.17 mm will fit. going to add to cart 6.5x4 porp as well for test(its in stock)

Will the one peace wing Speedy be listed in the USA warehouse?
 srepfler 1120 points
Eventually, couple of moths maybe, look how long was for SPAD or some other newcomers to USA warehouse. Order from International if you want it for Christmas.
 __memx 8 points
thank you srepfler for your detailed informations.i will do some test flights as soon as i assemble and will inform you..i order recomended spinner and it says it comes with adapters for 2.3mm, 3mm & 3.17mm motor shafts. cant find 4mm shaft, hope 3.17 mm will fit. going to add to cart 6.5x4 porp as well for test(its in stock)

If I bought this plane, I'd put a rudder on it.
 srepfler 1120 points
Hope to see this mods soon.
 Norice 53 points
Put a rudder is very high skill modify. and makes tail heavy. if you want YAW ctrl, You shold modify to Split ailron.
 Maximilionalpha 1070 points
Not with the materials that I curretly use to modify rudders on my other sailplanes.
EZYFLIER  14 points - 12/6/2011

Can you please advise best choice of propellor for this model.
 srepfler 1120 points
9x6 folding prop, but it may depend on motor/ESC combo you choose.
 Straight Up 743 points
It will depend ENTIRELY on the motor / ESC you choose!
 srepfler 1120 points
You can try drivecalc program ( Drive Calculator is a tool for DC motor analysis and the computation of the complete power system for electrically powered model aircraft), or see prop test data of chosen motor.
 Aerolux 23 points
I use on my Speedy Glider a 9x6 Folding Prop with 35mm spinner, and a 60 plush ESC. I read on my wattmeter 45amp full throtle. (3S 2200mah.) The motor is the "480L V-Spec Inrunner w/ Impeller 2150kv" with a 4mm shaft.
Smelij  24 points - 12/6/2011

From what material plane fuselage?
 Ek-trician 308 points
Fibererglass
 Ek-trician 308 points
Sorry, it's Fiberglass! I was laughing when I typed the last one *)
Smelij  24 points - 12/6/2011

What is composite??? Carbon? Fiber glass? or simple PET body?
 Ek-trician 308 points
It means technically a composit of two or more materials, but in R/C talk it means fiberglass or carbon fiber mixed with an epoxy. They use it also to describe props and some hardware usually a blend of glass, CF etc and nylon.
 slaanesh 424 points
Yes, it traditionally does mean fibreglass BUT Hobbyking have other models decribed as "composite" which are foam/nylon-plastic.

What is the difference from GL-Speedy Fiber Glass Hotliner (ARF)
 srepfler 1120 points
Very similar, size, specs, ... This one is simpler (one part wing), but although is cheaper package weight is bigger so at the and they cost the same ( almost). Here they recommend inrunner ( more expensive) on GL 28 size brushless, here standard servos (cheap) GL slim (expensive). I order this one, but it is impulsive buy, no detail pictures, no test video, no forums details, but as I sad it is new and looks nice.

Good question the first gen speedie had a 2piece main wing, and a nasty heavy wood wing joiner.

The GL Speedy(got one) is made by Hobby TopGun.
This one looks like the original FlyFly version.

Received the Speedy well packed. Build was straight forward. The wing is a two piece. I joined them with the provided joiner and taped them down the middle with fiber tape so they cannot come apart. My motor is a standard Phoenix 28mm motor swinging a 10X8 folding prop. Power is adequate to weak. Flew with 2200 3S Turnigy. The Speedy flies brilliantly, easy to track and fantastic glide ratio. It has a remarkably slow stall speed. Dives are quick with a distinct "swoosh". Great plane for the price. Only problem is it needs about 50gm of lead in the nose as it is tail heavy. Nice quality, for the $'s you wont be disappointed.

Installed the xk2860-2200kv swinging a 11x6. 2200 3s battery. Used turnigy mg90s servos. Flies fantastic, fast, climbs great and turns effortlessly. Added color stripes to bottom of wind as its hard to distinguish orientation at long distances or heights.
