What is the best item for HK-250GT?
I don't kone what to buy.
Plz, recommend...

Brushless Outrunner Motor :
Servos :
Gyro :
Receiver :
ESC :
   Fokke (90%)
Hi Lee,

Run-of-the-mill components for the 250 are:
- Turnigy 2627 outrunner, 4200KV (don't go any bigger, especially with respect to diameter!),
- Turnigy plush 25A speedo (30A also possible, but heavier)
- Pinion with 2,3mm hole (stock pinion is 2,5mm), 0,4M
- HXT900 (3x) on swash,
- FAST!! servo on tial, I use Turnigy DS480,
- HK401 Gyro(with mods, see reviews on that page)
- Receiver that goes with your transmitter :-) I use Spektrum DX6i, and since recently HK provides for a 6ch parkflyer receiver, DSM2 compatible. Me very happy: :-)
I hope this answers your question. Also read my posting re. HK250 "lite", that I will post here. That might give you some alternatives.
   Lee (100%)
Hi...Fokke!!
Really thank you for your kindness.
& Guus Hiddink :-)
This is what I want to get.

"HK401" Gyro is this "http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=10113",right?
   Bernd (72%)
Motor: 3500 kV of the similar size as Aligns Servos: Most 10g will fit, some are too thick (not more than 12 mm, HXT 900 is 12,2 ...) Gyro: Get a small one, like GY192 Receiver: Consider small size/weight ESC: 20 or 25 A - and at least 2 A BEC for the 4 servos!

Hobby King still will not send the missing parts from my HK250GT. They have the missing parts in stock but refuse to send them because they want to wait for the manufacturer. **** CUSTOMER SERVICE. DON'T BUY THIS HELI
8/25/2010
Peter (66%)
Bought this heli 27th June and it's now 24th August. I can't get Hobby King to send the missing parts. Take your chance if you like but you will not get customer service from Hobby King.

kneekolaas (63%)
awesome fun heli... and cheeaaap.. but i keep breaking belts....sucks..... what the story....???go kevlar???
   Peter (66%)
get the kevlar belt from infinity hobby, about $4.
   Fokke (90%)
Or the stock belt from Align. Sharper teeth as well, so doesn't slip. Slipping causes the belt to be stripped and break.
   Bernd (72%)
Your belt tension might be too high. The belt should be easily movable to 2/3 of the width (maybe 4 mm) with a screw driver, at the position before the boom begins. If you're unsure loosen it until the tail rotor slips and tighten slighly.
8/17/2010
Peter (66%)
My kit was missing the rudder servo mounts and Hobby King is refusing to send replacements from their stock of over 100. They say I have to wait until they get some from the manufacturer. I've been waiting over 3 weeks now. Has anyone else had the same problem? Shame of it is the heli is good value for $36

Hi everyone,
have before me the HK 250 Gt to buy *-)
What would you share as to obstruct? should not be too expensive, but not too bad.
What gyro is good for the HK 250 GT? Maybe you can send me some parts as compile times.
Thank you in advance!
Excuse my English.
Greetings from Germany *-)

MFG Andreas
   Bernd (72%)
Ask the question in german ... For the gyro, you'll want a small and light one, like GY192 or similar (not available from HK, see on ebay).

PLEASE HELP: ANYONE KNOWS ANY LOCAL FRANCHIZE STORE THAT YOU CAN BUY A 0.9mm SCREW DRIVER??? MINE BROKE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BUILD...!!!! !*#$ ....CANT FIND IT AT ANY OF THE LOCAL HOBBY STORES!!!
   cowboy708 (79%)
Is there a Harbor Freight store in your area? i found they had a set of 33pc precision screwdriver set for cheap, it has almost if not all of the bit size that you would need, also it comes with a screw handle that extends which is a plus for tight to reach ares.
   cowboy708 (79%)
i just checked Harbor freight online and they have it, the item# 93916, for $6.99, not bad eh.... that's of co**** provided there is one in your area and you live in the U.S.
   Bernd (72%)
It's a standard size available from various brands, like Wiha. Should also be part of common sets.

What are 'Bladeholders with Chinese weights' please ? Link please.
   cowboy708 (79%)
Its what tail blade holders are except you'll see it has a bulk on both sides of each grip for counterweight from the blades spinning. look at the Hk450pro parts for the tail blade holder, the one that has the whole tail box assembly and compare it with the one with just the blade grips, you will see the difference in blade grips.
   plasticbaldy (35%)
Do the Chinese weights come standard with the latest HK250GT ? Are they still supplying the wrong bearings for the main bladegrips ? And have they fixed the slop in the TR pitch parts ?

What sort of flight times do you guy's get, I get about 4min on a 3s800mh with 4 hxt900, 401b,motor running at 70% only
   Markus (67%)
I have 3x HXT 900, Align DS420 and, Align Motor and GP750 with HobbyKing SS Series 18-20A an I can fly about 5 minutes, I think.
   Bernd (72%)
My 250 flies 7:00 min with normal curves etc (no 3D), or 8:00 hovering, with Align motor and ESC* you can also use a 1000-3S battery (with new holes in the canopy...).

Is this the best value for money in a quality micro 3D heli ? Comments & advice are welcome please for an experienced (haven't been involved for 15 years) reasonably expert level pilot.
   Fokke (90%)
I think the Trex250 is one of the best micro 3D heli's around, and this HK250GT is a very good replica. So value for money, I think this one is hard to beat.
   Bernd (72%)
It's an excellent kit, with various metal parts at critical places where Align uses plastic ones, and better (torx) screws :-)

amirzakwan (46%)
can i use 3s 500mah 20c battery on this?
   Shea (36%)
that is a little small and will result in very little flight time, i would recommend 800mah or 1000mah if u want to drill new mounting holes in the canopy to make more room for the 22mm extra length u get with the 1000mah, 800 works pretty good though, 1000 mah is for people who just never get enough
   foster (67%)
it will work fine im useing 1000mah 15c 3s and there just a little to big to go under the canopy
This customer was awarded a credit for their answer.
   Bikalho (59%)
yes, but a 3s 800mah will give you more flight time.
   dkircali (66%)
I don't think 500 mah will give you enough flight time, look for 800 or 1000mah
   Bikalho (59%)
Yes you can use this battery
   scott (60%)
it should work
   bolenath (21%)
yes it will work but think about that when you use a havier batt. you need to trust it also
   Richardmillen (55%)
capacity a bit low really, wants a minimum 800mah
   Ceolwulf (42%)
You can but flight times will be short compared to 3s 800mah battery.
   flyawayfromhere (72%)
a bit low mah ... will fly like 4 mins
   Fokke (90%)
I ditched the canopy and put a Esky Honey Bee FP2 canopy on it (also on my TREX250SE). Fits 1000mAh easily and looks smug too...
   cowboy708 (79%)
800mah 20C 3s lipo are the best choice for this type of heli. plenty of power and ample flight times, you wont regret it, 100mah will be too big and wont fit the canopy.

is it a trex 250 clone?
   Jan (37%)
Yes it is!
As some people have already stated you can use the trex manual and align replacement parts.
   edd! (22%)
Yes it is. Most of the parts are interchangable.
In fact, many of the HK 250 GT parts are better in quality and most are way cheaper in price than the TREX 250 ones.
   richaevans (23%)
Yes and I crashed mine and it cost me $10 to replace everything I broke. Try doing that with a Trex.
   addiictedd (24%)
yes it is :)
   foster (67%)
yes its a good 250 clone i bought 2 of them and 200$ in crash parts for less than real trex

the only differance from a real trex is the name stamped on it
   Bikalho (59%)
yes,its a very good clone.

I have problem with the tail of the HK-250GT. I have tail oscilations especialy in heading lock mode. I have tried a lot of gyros , the Telebee , the 401B and the new Align GP780 gyro. I have used very fast digital servos and normal analoge servos for the tail.My Futaba FF8 transmeter low side of ATV is 30% and not 0%.So I could not reduce the gain of the HL mode of the gyro below 30% and I could not fly. If anyone of you had the same problem and fixed it I would be grateful if he has any sugestions about it.
   Flipper1 (55%)
Had a similar problem on my TREX250. Make sure you use a digital servo, -attach the pushrod to the servo arm at no more than 5mm from the center,-cut down the tail blades to about 35mm (mine are 32mm), -do the chinese weight mod (add weight the the tail grips) and make a stiff carbon pushro, also size your ball links (make shure they move free). All this seemed to do the trick for me.
   richaevans (23%)
Are you using the stock tail drive. I have found the pulleys are not centered on the shafts and can induce oscilations. If this is the case either replace with "name brand" or remove the pulley and replace with one pressed of a spare tail shaft. The tail shafts all seem much more centered.
   ibanez (42%)
bonjour j ai eu aussi le meme probleme que j ai metriser en mettant un gyro GU210 et un servo programable de chez hyperion type DS 09 GMD qui vont tres bien ensemble j ai une radio futaba t7c

I had this too, because of a failed one way bearing in the man gear. it just wouldnt hold the tail..

For building the HK-250GT we need a hexagonal screw driver 0.9mm.If the screw driver that there is in the kit had been ruined where could we find another one?I tried the Align's 0.9mm hex driver but I could not find it.Does anybody knows from where could I buy a hex 0.9mm driver?
   deanc (45%)
Ebay has some of those 0.9mm align drivers

Or you can get this:

http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4682&Product_Name=30pc_Screw_Driver_Set
   foster (67%)
probly sell them on ebay and i think hobbykings has them here somewhere on there site

I tried the HK-250GT with Align's CF main blades and the heli is flying like an angry animal.Does anyone knows how to calm this tiny monster?Do I have to replace the CF blades with plastic flexible blades? {I fly RC and full size helicopters from 1990 and I am embarrassed that I could not fly properly this little ****}.Anyway
the tail belt would be broken if the tail is wagging due to non proper regulation of the gyro.Mine ruinned the ball bearing of the tail holder too that supports the tail drive gear shaft. If you want to unscrew any screw use a torch. I learned this the hard way {more broken screws inside metal parts and more $ for replacing these parts}. It would be better to fly this little monster with a magnifying lens. I think that the HK450 is the most easy to fly helicopter then the HK500 and last the HK250GT.
   deanc (45%)
The smaller the heli the more it will need attention as it becomes much less stable as compared with larger models. Smaller helis have high heads speeds to make them more stable in flight, the 250 is happy with around 4200rpm HS, higher than that you might blow the head.

What motor and pinion are you using? I have a 3800Kv motor with 13T pinion and HS about right although sometimes it really sounds like a mad dental drill.

Instead of using a torch to loosen screws, try a soldering iron to "liquify" the thread lock and make the screws easier to remove. It will prevent burning other components/parts nearby.
   Shea (36%)
if it broke belt belt drive or/and the bearings that is caused by a little to much tension on your tail drive belt, too loose is bad but too tight also damages things

Hey guys can someone tell me how much it would cost RTF? (Approx... and the RTF for the 450 size heli).

Thanks in advance
   foster (67%)
you can build one for about 250 with every thing you need to fly both 250 and 450 the 250 is realy hard to fly but chash parts are cheaper the 450 much easyer to fly but the parts cost more.
   Bikalho (59%)
mine 250 rtf cost me 150 dollars with shipping

During Building of HK250GT i have noticed the following this far, and its far from flyable yet as need parts:
screws and small parts not packed i sealed plastic bags, found one of them in the box so my kit have screws missing cus of this. main mast lock ring have wrong sized screw mounted! correct size is same as used on servos, cus of this threads are toast in the ring for me.
frame screws are of diffrent lengths all over the frame, side from side also there are absolutly no thread lock anywere.
main mast bottom screwthread i mast is weak, guess it have to short thread lenght.

anyone else noticed this? or is it only my kit...
   deanc (45%)
Mine came in with every plastic bags sealed. The mast lock grub screw was not fitted right but I removed it and re-install without problems. Mine have very minimal thread lock, but it is good practice to re-thread lock everything once the kit arrives so it is no issue to me.

BTW, you should have taken pictures of your unsealed plastic bags, HK support normally ask for pictures if you are going to ask for assistance or complaint about packaging.

Can please somebody who was so lucky to set up his head proper (0 pitch in mid stick, same positive and negative pitch on low and high stick position) post here linkage lenghts ? after i try to set it with trex manual it was impossible to get 0 pitch in mid stick cause linkages are too long and shortening them more would damage plastic snaps :((( im in dead point please help me before i break the freaking thing ...
   deanc (45%)
I did shortened the linkages on mine to get the proper pitch. I cut about 2mm from both ends with a dremel with cut-off disk.
   tommo85 (39%)
Swash to mixing lever 26mm Centre to Centre,
Washout arm to flybar cage, and mixing lever to blade grip are both set in the manufacture.

This is the numbers from the Align manual
   foster (67%)
go on youtube and look up heli cyclic setup

um just to tell you if your a beginer exspect to crash alot and buy a ton of spar parts it sucks buying one main shaft from the hobby store when you could of got 20 from here for the same price

Would someone please tell me the empty kit weight of the HK-250GT versus HK-T250? They're both listed as 138g which I find strange. Thanks.
   foster (67%)
its realy not that strange at all there the same thing the parts are made from nylon on the cheap one and alumminum on the gt the 250 gt is a right on trex clone i have 2 of them with 300 dollars in crash parts and its awsome
1/21/2010
Tonzzi (57%)
I had broken tail belt during hovering.
Is it weak?
Do Someone konw suitable reenforced one?
   deanc (45%)
the ones that came with the kit appears to be weak. But some reviews of the replacement belts says that they are better quality. It wouldn't cost much to try them.
   Tonzzi (57%)
Thanks.
I had broken two replacement belt already.
So I bought a reenforced belt that was added Kevlar.
I ergently hope it can work.
   deanc (45%)
yup kevlar belts seems to be the way to go. But from where I'm at shipping cost 3X the price of the belt.

Hope that HK stock some of those belts.
   palex (54%)
I also broke the belt which came with the kit. I have the impression that I tension it to much. Replaced with HC item at lowest tension possible (just not to slip) and seems to work so far.

A bit tricky to set the right tension.
   tommo85 (39%)
Weak tail belts for the HK250 range is a recurring problem.

Purchase the Kevlar reinforced one (yellowish in colour, with Kevlar belts that are visible through the transparent plastic. You can get these belts from flying hobby under Helicopters - T-Rex250 - After Market Parts - Super Tail Belt For T-Rex 250 their only $4 and they are better than Align according to the stuff on the net, I use one In my 250rex,
   deanc (45%)
Wish their shipping to part of the world is as cheap as HK. :(
   foster (67%)
ya the spares they sell here are differn't than the original there a little stronger and make it through a cupple crashes
   Shea (36%)
its not so much weakness as it is small enough to fit through tail boom and do a 60 degree twist, with a part this small tension is key.. too much tension on this small heli will break a good belt that small
   Ceolwulf (42%)
That is a common problem on all 250 clones. Go with an align belt or better yet a kevlar belt. Just wish hk carried them.

You can find the CF blade here:
***********hobbypartz****/60p-pro-2051.html
I have been flying them for a while and very happy about them. Cheap and good quality.
   foster (67%)
its a 250 there made to be crashed alot use the cheap blades that come with it not carbon fiber like a retart the cheap blades break in a bad crash without destorying your head its a lot easyer to replace 50cent blades than your hole head and a set of 20$ min carbon fiber blades every time you crash
P.s i fly and crash mine about twice a week and boy is it nice when a crashes averge about 5.00$ on a bad one

Yes, it does have an all metal head and tail.
Even the bearing holders are metal and tail boom holder as well.

Turnigy 2627, 3800kv or 4200kv?
which should I use?
someone help me?
   deanc (45%)
either one would work, just be sure to use the correct pinion so that you do not have too much head speed.

Some have used 13T on the 3800 and others 11-12 tooth on the 4200. Best to have a bunch of pinions with different teeth counts so that you can judge which one is best for your setup
   lalagi (53%)
most people use a 3800kv or a 3400kv motor

After aaembly, I noticed the forward control rods were angled. Relocated servos so the tabs were on the inside of the frame. This took quite abit of filing, fitting, filing, fitting and so on but really ended up looking nice. Way more compact now. Alos moved the rear (elevator) servo tabs in. Made the canopy fit much better but had clearance issues and offset the control arm. Oh the humanity.... Anyways, after some EXTREME servo modding, everything is super tight and compact. I'm going to sacrifice the offset geometry on the rear servo for better canopy fit and cleaner look. If moving the front servos tab-in, make sure everything fits easy. Too tight and there's a chance the frame could torque just enough to un-align the main shaft bearings.

Honestly, my last one. A Align T-Rex 250 I used the Align DS410's on swash and DS420 on tail. I just purchased another 250, and I will use these again. As they are very good digital servos. Also rather affordable 39AUD in Australia, and 28USD form ready heli.

The canopy problem somebody mentioned was very easy to fix. Just bend it a little bit with your fingers, and there you have it!
The motor mount is for 2.5mm screws, so you have to sand it a little if you plan to use the Turnigy 2627 and use the 3.0 mm screws provided with that motor. It fits very well with this little bird!

I wonder where Jason is.....

He seems to be active when a new item arrives but vaporizes when some issue questions are asked.

Gee, dont tell me he's vaporised, and if he has, how did it happen and can we order the vaporising kit from hobbyking, I dont care how much it is or even what the postage cost is, I have a few people here I would like to vaporise myself...lol

Guys, it's impossible for me to answer all your q's. We have thousands of products, 10's of thousands in fact.

Sorry.

Is this a copy of the EXI 250? Also does it come with the balls? Where can I get them if not?
   deanc (45%)
Comes with balls for the servos.

anyone else having problems fitting canopy? Mine is warped where the control rods run from the servos to the swashplate so I'm not going to chance using it. I have a blade cp canopy that fits pretty good so I'll use this for now. Wondering if it's just mine or everyone else's, too. Maybe align will fit properly?

You can sort of massage the canopy to shape by applying some heat using a heat gun.

How can I get the 15t pinion 2.5mm to fit the turnigy motor better when it has a 2.3mm shaft. It isnt very well balanced as it is. Surely someone sells a 15 or 14t pinion with a 2.3mm center.
cheers
   deanc (45%)
You can't, unless you make some shim to fill the .2mm gap all around so that it it would not wobble. It is best to buy a pinion with the correct bore or change the shaft to 2.5mm. The later seems easier to do if you have friend with a lathe.
   palex (54%)
Or, you can use same aluminium cocking foil to wrap around the shaft. For me, 4 to 5 turns of aluminium foil soaked with blue loctite thread locker made a perfect fit for the 2,5mm pinion on the 2,3mm shaft. Do not use tread locker from the beginning. Try to see how much alu foil needs for a tight fit, and then make the final assembly. To stay out of trouble, make a cut out on the shaft (if is not already there) for the pinion safety pin.

palex, the aluminum foil could be a solution to the slop I have on my tail slider. Someone mentioned that the slider balls are a few mils smaller than the control arm hole thereby producing some slop on the tail rotor and making the tail problematic. We'll try this later.... :)
   palex (54%)
deanc, I'm not sure if the alu foil will work for the slider ball. It seems very fragile, even glued, to be used between two moving surfaces, especially when spherical. However, it worth a try. Someone here mention the use of CA to form an additional layer on the ball. I think that any hard/strong varnish will work, but I haven't try it yet.

About the tail problem, this is a bit complex. First is need to be sure that the giro and the tail servo works properly. A bad servo, or a wrong adjusted gyro makes the best mechanical tail to behave like crazy.
But let supposes that the problem lays only in the mechanical construction of the tail. In this case, I believe that not only the ball slider is responsible, but there is a cumulative problem. Unfortunately, every connection in the cinematic link from the servo rod to the tail blades induce a little play (at least with my hely). There is play between the ball and the control arm, as you already mentioned, play between the slider and the tail shaft (a big one), play between the linking arms, play at the tail blade holders and the central hub (I suspect that the bearings inside are not the right one, same problem as with the main blade holder bearings - ordered the replacement, I'll see). Some of them can be easily corrected, ex. play between screws and inner sleeves can be taken out by screwing a bit further (!!! not to block the movement) or just add a bit of string, alu foil, or just a bit of locktite thread locker between the screw and the sleeve.
However, in my case even with bit of play, during the flight the tail is solid rock and reacts OK.
I use skyartec gyro (from an old, never good flying, wasp V3) with MKS DS480 Digital Servo from HC.

palex, agree that the tail slop could be the result of a multiple small slops adding up together, but the tail slider ball and control arm seems to contribute the most. Anyways,IMO minimizing any slop can be beneficial for the tail.

The tail on my heli actually is also solid like yours even with a slop.

Can somebody clarify for me what to do if i have this 15T 2.5mm pinion and My motor is 2.3 mm , i think i have already broken pinion trying to screw it really tight... :/ will trex 15T pinion fit ? My motor is Turnigy 2627 Brushless Outrunner
   deanc (45%)
Putting a pinion with 2.5mm hole to a shaft with 2.3mm won't work and you may end up with a wobbling pinion. Not good. Better get a pinion that will fit the shaft properly.

Do these pinions attach with a grub screw?
My last one over a year ago was an Align, and the pinion went on a size for size fit to the shaft with the green i think it was thread locker. Was called Anaerobic glue or something from memory. This worked really well. just had to deform the shaft a bit with side cutters to make like a thread to stop it from spinning free a little under hard pitch pumping.

tommo85, they don't have grub screws, just interference fit on the motor shaft, so you still need the green thread lock to hold them in place.
